MP3 + VIDEO: Warning Light – "Nightfall in the Border Country"

MP3 + VIDEO: Warning Light – "Nightfall in the Border Country" I could see how Warning Light's ambient drones could drive some listener's crazy. It's music consumed by buildup and anticipation, with wave upon wave of mounting tension and slight harmonic variations that rarely offer release. There are no valleys to float or fall into—just a series of contiguous peaks that eventually blur into a single sustained stream of sound. But it's also music that rewards patience and imagination. For those listeners willing to submit themselves to Drew Haddon's gray-hued noir soundscapes, there's something unsettling yet captivating about his meditative walls of sound. Pulled from last [...]

VIDEO: Ifan Dafydd – Treehouse

Ifan Dafydd - Treehouse
This is the official video for Treehouse by Ifan Dafydd , lifted from the EP of the same name which is out right now on Push & Run . I'm sure Mr Ifan Dafydd is sick of hearing the comparisons, but it really does feel like he's picked up where James Blake stopped to go and have a more drawn out moody sing-song in the charts. Either way, Ifan Dafydd has snatched that baton from James Blake and is so far doing a fantastic job. ... [read more]

[Review/Listen] – Dr. Dog – "Be The Void"

[Review/Listen] – Dr. Dog – "Be The Void" Tweet If you know Dr. Dog at all, then you know they've made a career of turning lo-fi musings and blatant stylistic influences into coherent, upbeat, psychedelic-throwback pop songs. "Be The Void" is no exception, except that it's also quite different from other Dr. Dog albums. The band decided to take a different approach to this album: they structured their recording process around their live shows. Instead of endlessly fussing about in the studio, they captured the [...]

[Review/Listen] – Django Django – "Django Django"

[Review/Listen] – Django Django – "Django Django" Tweet "Django Django" is an album of two halfs. The opening seven tracks are a mad art-pop romp, absolutely living up to the hype that surrounded Django Django on the release of their debut single "Storm/Love's Dart" back in 2009. Come the last six tracks, though, Django Django seem to be completely out of ideas, reviving their first single and rehashing the same sounds with far less enthusiasm and imagination. [...]

Kosha Dillz – My Favorite Rapper Is A Dick (Cloud, MP3)

Kosha Dillz – My Favorite Rapper Is A Dick (Cloud, MP3) Kosha Dillz could possibly have the worst MC name in the history of the game, but he is finally getting a little buzz. He had a track with RZA last year and I've caught his video on MTV's Subterranean a few times. On this new track, he's spitting bars over the Wavves song "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl". Instead of paying homeage to anyone though, the Los Angeles based Jewish MC is giving a big ol' "fuck you" to his favorite rapper. Shit is funny. About as funny as a shirt that says "Oy Vey! All Day". [...]

Kosha Dillz – "My Favorite Rapper is a D#$k!"

The weekend is kicking off, but I wanted to get one more post out there from the homie Kosha Dillz. Spitting over Wavves's "I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl", Kosha tells us why his favorite rapper is a huge douche. "My Favorite Rapper is a Dick" will land on the JetLag EP, which is set to drop for free. New: Domo Genesis & Wiz Khalifa – "Ground Up"

We knew Odd Future's resident stoner rap prodigy Domo Genesis was going to get big, and it's looking like his latest collab might shed him a bit more limelight. Despite a brief 2011 beef about the use of the album title Rolling Papers , Domo's teamed up with Wiz Khalifa to deliver one of the best hip-hop songs with the use of pan flute in recent memory, "Ground Up." Take one sweet, spacey beat from frequent Wiz collaborator Cardo and add some great verses from two young [...]

Battles – "White Electric" (Shabazz Palaces Remix)

Battles - White Electric (Shabazz Palaces Remix) taken from Dross Glop 2
Battles released a pretty awesome album last year. Shabazz Palaces released an amazing album last year. Their blissed-out remix for "White Electric" is now available for streaming courtesy of Warp Records. The rest of the single features contributions from Kode 9 and Alchemist is releasing on Feb 20. Shabazz is also embarking on a pretty lengthy world tour, so if possible, you should definitely check that out. Hit the skip to [...]

The Weeknd – "Next" (Keys N Krates Remix)

Toronto's unique live electronic hip-hop outfit known as Keys N Krates have been a bit quite as of late. To speed things up, they take to fellow T-Dot dweller The Weeknd 's single, "Next", and give it some danceable vibes. Just what these party starters are known for, expect lots of energy in this remix, enough to turn any slow-dancing R&B track into a full out club banger. Hit the skip to stream the remix.

How To Dress Well – "Clowne Towne" (Xiu Xiu cover)

Brutal Smash of a Serve, Tennis Bafra.

Brutal Smash of a Serve, Tennis Bafra. If your preconceptions of Nordic sonic outpour centre around perfectly affable if in no way provocative tweepop propensities, treat yourself and traumatise your ears with Abulia Jubilee, the debut long-player from Uppsala's 'slacker noise rock' upstarts Tennis Bafra . Inherently recalling recently reunited, skull-crushing hardcore compatriots Refused, Abulia Jubilee is a record dripping in an intoxicating amalgam of Bitch Magnet brutality, Sonic Youth sludge, and the nonchalant recklessness, venom, and vitriol of Craig Nicholls. REC'D: Rhye – "Open"

We don't know much about L.A. duo (at least we think it's a duo) Rhye yet – they're being purposefully sneaky about their identities, preferring to allow their music to speak for itself, at least for the time being. Consider our curiosity peaked – their first offering "Open" sits on the border between Architecture in Helsinki and Jai Paul – seriously, what with that hyper-minimalist backbeat that'll have you all psyched for some artstep drum machine skittering before Rhye go ahead and turn the tables completely into orchestral, horns-and-strings indie balladry. The [...]

[Listen] The Ting Tings - "Soul Killing"

[Listen] The Ting Tings - "Soul Killing" Back in May 2008 The Ting Tings burst onto the scene with their debut album We Started Something , and on the 27th of this month (February) the band will release their sophomore effort, Sounds from Noewheresville . Supposedly the band scrapped an entire album's worth of material when making new music and started over, and today a new track has surfaced titled "Soul Killing". I'm certainly not sold on this band but maybe the album will offer up a little more. See what you make of it and let us know if the feeling ismutual.

The Ting Tings – "Soul Killing"

I was never a huge fan of The Ting Tings-their indie sound always seemed a bit too contrived and poppy for me. With that said, I can't get enough of their latest single leak, "Soul Killing". With a fantastic touch of dub, Jules de Martino and Katie White have quite the catchy tune on their hand. As horns flare and White sprays her cutesy vocals all over "Soul Killing", there is a little piece inside of me craving to hear the rest of this highly anticipated full-length. Sounds from Nowheresville is set to drop March 13 via Columbia. [...]

Single Review: Lostprophets – Bring 'Em Down

Lostprophets - Bring Em Down (**New Single 2012**)
You wouldn't have thought it but Lostprophets have been together since 1997: that's a whole 15 years! What's even more remarkable is that they're still loitering around the edges of mainstream success. Yes they've had big hits with 'Last Train Home' and 'Rooftops', but they're still not headlining the O2. That said, 2012 could be the the year for the Pontypridd boyos. With their fifth studio album 'Weapons' hitting the shelves in April, Lostprophets have released the first single to tease us with. Entitled 'Bring 'Em Down', it's (as the name suggests) [...]
