Tweet Listen to "Island Girl" , a new song by New York band The Virgins . Back in high school I would stay up till ungodly hours, partly because of my lack of organization, partly because of the crazy workload I had and partly because I couldn't help but stray from my academic duties to instead researching music, something I've always loved to do. It was in one of these late night hunts that I stumbled across New [...]
![[Review/Listen] – Django Django – "Django Django"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4052462_lg.jpg)
Tweet "Django Django" is an album of two halfs. The opening seven tracks are a mad art-pop romp, absolutely living up to the hype that surrounded Django Django on the release of their debut single "Storm/Love's Dart" back in 2009. Come the last six tracks, though, Django Django seem to be completely out of ideas, reviving their first single and rehashing the same sounds with far less enthusiasm and imagination. [...]

Well, what DID you expect from The Vaccines? I tell you what. I am thoroughly impressed with this band. Last week I told you about The Horrors, and this week I've got their sister band. I mean brother band. Literally. Their guitar player is the younger brother of Tom Cowan (bass)from The Horrors. And like The Horrors, The Vaccines was also formed in West London. But VERY recently formed, despite sounding like a fully developed band. I compared The Horrors to [...]

Caleb Price is a 49 year old 1st generation American who immigrated here from Bratislava in 1992. She makes a living by traveling to rural areas of the midwest and the adjoining bible belt where she frightens superstitious rubes into giving her money and expensive cutlery by pretending to be a powerful sorceress . It's a dangerous line of work - there's always the chance she'll be caught, in which case she'll surely face public immolation in some remote Nebraskan town square - but she prefers it to her previous career back home in Slovak Republic, which consisted of [...]

This is a very quiet time of the year when it comes to new music. Most major bands don't start releasing material until February or March, so January can be seen as a reflective time. 20112s Top 50 list took me quite a while to finish, but I must say that I'm pretty happy with it overall. Now I find myself wondering what I should be looking forward to in 2012. If the Mayans are to be believed, the world shall be ending sometime in late December. This only leaves 11 more months of new music until mankind is lost [...]

"If I had to describe my interview style I'd say it's Chris Farley-like—basically over-excited to hear them talk about anything."
With the early Two Thousand and Twelve emphasis on nurturing new talent in the world of music, we at MUZU.TV talked to the up and coming Dead Wolf Club, who are releasing their debut album on February 1st, through Scene Not Heard records. MUZU: Hi guys! You're releasing your debut album on DIY collective Scene Not Herd who claim to "put on the absolute best up and coming bands.". How's it feel to be part of something that chooses to be synonymous with launching great bands? [...]

Nikolai Fraiture , o intrigante baixista do Strokes , acaba de soltar um cover para In My Life , dos Beatles , no tumblr de seu projeto solo paralelo , o Nickel Eye . O Nickel Eye tem um álbum lançado, The Time of Assassins (2009), que contou com a participação de gente como Regina Spektor e Nick Zinner ( Yeah Yeah Yeahs ). Assista aqui o cover de Fraiture :

Every once in awhile the Brits steal our homegrown bands beneath our noses, promoting some of the best in America without us even knowing. It happened with the Strokes , and now it's happening with Howler , a Minneapolis group. They're record America Give Up comes out next week via Rough Trade , and it's a pretty solid collection of pop tracks. NPR even praised it as an album full of stand alone singles, so I had to give it the good [...]
Owl Mag writer, Hillary Smith, takes us on a nostalgic ride all the way back to... 2011?

Neste sábado (14), a sede paulistana do Beco 203 recebe mais uma festa Is This Indie .

"It feels like everyone wants what happened in 2001 to happen again." Jordan Gatesmith, Howler. There are surely no two band names that bring to mind the racket to expect from their imitators more than those following around Howler at the moment. You see, you won't be able to read up on Howler without the stiff mentioning of two names: The Strokes & The Vaccines. It's not surprising then than that this cheekboned US five-piece specialise in no-frills, fuzzy indie-pop that links them very much to the lineage of The Strokes. They've also toured with [...]

I could've made this list twice as long but I capped it at 50. Most of these are actual singles. The rest should be. Beyond the top ten, ordering is fairly arbitrary. Metronomy - The Look ( MP3 | Video ) I first heard this song back in February and I have yet to tire of it. I wish the keyboard solo outro lasted forever. Exlovers - Blowing Kisses ( MP3 | Video ) Rocking shoegaze pop of the highest order. [...]

Yes, I google news 'the strokes' when thestrokesnews.com doesn't update often enough. Or maybe I do it every day (like every good fan should). Anyway, I was led to this band called Side Effect from Myanmar. They are billed as a punk band, yet aren't actually punk at all. In actuality, they just sound like The Strokes with harmonies. Overall, this is a good thing, except for one little thing that irked me. While I can't really feel anger at them because their story is quite sad , the band unfortunately ripped off my favorite [...]
