STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9) has now been on a journey of both miles and musicianship for over a decade. Formed near Atlanta, GA, the five-piece "jamtronica" outfit has performed for countless fans across the globe, but the gentlemen have always had even higher expectations for their progressive electronic jams. STS92s current "Great Cycles Spectacles" showcases the band's longtime fascination with time and space, combining an overwhelming visual experience with already visceral aural explorations. Prior to the activation of STS92s new setup, DJ-extraordinaire RJD2 hit the stage of Chicago's Congress Theater, equipped with four-turntables and [...]
STS9 is behind us for now, Big Gigantic is on the unimaginably close horizon, Deadmeat tour, Excision, and Snowball coming after that. For now, it's time to take a step back and drop the tempo to get into a groovy state of mind for the week to come. This week is all over the board [...]

Reviews and highlights from this year's Moogfest...
STS92s evolution is never complete and although they've gone in directions over the past few years that weren't to my particular liking, they were able to acquire a massive, more diverse fan base and introduce their sounds to hordes of new fans who otherwise probably would've missed the boat on this band. From my now [...]

There's a lot of pork in Asheville, NC. Like, tons. Everywhere you go, they're advertising beef, BBQ, and, well, pork. It's sort of funny because there's also a lot of tofu. (Hey, vegans gotta eat something.) And yet it's this polarizing, yet mutual, relationship that exemplifies the town's unique persona. Oh, delightful food. But food bonds us. It's the one thing that anyone can agree upon (anorexics, religious fanatics excluded): We gotta eat. And with a weekend party like Moogfest , which essentially strangles the town for three long nights, the overall community of food is an [...]

Photo: Jules Kueffer No one makes futuristic space music like the The Polish Ambassador . He's the only dude from earth to have diplomatic immunity on Mars - it's one of the perks that come with making music that martians love. Rumor has it that his space jump suit was actually given to him by the King of the underground rave scene on Neptune after he played a set using only his mind. On top of his galactic accolades, us here on earth also love to jam out to some Polish tunes, especially when [...]
This week in NYC shows is a crazy one, with the CMJ Music Marathon officially taking over a good chunk of NYC's clubs and venues.
This year I linked up with 1320 Records to release "Future, Sex, Computers." In the summertime I had the fortune of meeting the members of Sound Tribe Sector Nine, the band behind the label. It was up at Re:Generation festival in Horning's Hideout, Oregon. We got to talking about chicken biscuits, trout fishin', life, death, smurfs, possible remixes, and a week later Zach sent me the stems for Scheme, the lead single of their latest release "When the Dust Settles." Here's my interpretation of Scheme. I hope you dig it. It's a FREE download, so snatch it up, and pass [...]
