Shindu exploded onto to the dance scene last year with the fantastic debut single 'Happy House'. Not only was the EP produced by man of the moment Moonlight Matters, it also came with some stellar remixes. Well, it's time for the difficult second EP. They've moved to a new label Kiez Beats, but their sound still remains the same - thankfully the quality of production hasn't dipped since Seba jumped ship either. It's still full of big happy synths, snappy drums and vocals that wouldn't sound out of place on a Salt 'N Pepper record. The only [...]

Alison Mosshart gets a lot of credit for her prowess as a front woman, both for The Kills and Dead Weather. We had to see for ourself how her new album was going to play out, plus we got to see our favorites Jeff the Brotherhood in the process. Read on for pics and gossip. Okay, so we don't have gossip; we're not cool enough for that. I do want to toss out a few words on the acts and the night. Hunters began the affair, [...]

Jamie Hince (left) and Alison Mosshart of The Kills Editor's Note : Our Austin correspondent Lily Angelle kicks off our live music season with a dispatch from Austin. Following a morning of apocalyptic rainfall in Austin, people gathered at a puddly, muddy Stubb's BBQ to see The Kills, although it's safe to say about 90 percent of the crowd just wanted to see front woman Alison Mosshart. My cohort and I, however, were there primarily to see the opening band [...]

Date Wednesday, Jan 25th Location Stubbs Doors 700 pm Tickets $23 from Frontgate One of the more enduring and endearing rock acts of the last several years is the Kills , having put out album after album of sludgy guitar rock with the always fierce Alison Mosshart fronting the group. They're loud, they're bratty, [...]

Cass McCombs came to town to play an intimate set at Stubb's indoor stage. The crowd on hand was tightly packed into the cave beneath the restaurant, enthusiastic and respectful. The quiet moments were quiet allowing Cass and the band to fill the space. Helping to create that atmosphere was the spellbinding opening set from Frank FairField. . Just a stool, guitar, violin or banjo, toe-taps to set the rhythm and single mic in front to pick it all up. Pin drop quiet allowing the traditional [...]

Hailing from Belgium, Ghent, Shindu is a trio formed by Christopher D'havé, Chibi Vanwijnsberghe and Maxime Greedy Abbenbroek. Originally, they were only two Dj's spreading miscellaneous electro pop with 802s influences. That's when Chibi enters the scene after a while. They felt a natural need to start producing music. Honestly, i can't imagine this trio without her presence. Her vocals takes me back a few years ago. I really love her strong timbre, just like some of my favorite divas such as Peaches or even Chicks On Speed, however she is not eccentric like the ladies i've just mentioned. [...]

Having seen Modest Mouse on several occasions, and in various settings, I headed off to Stubbs this past Tuesday a little skeptical of what I'd see. Before I get onto that, let's skip ahead to talk about opener Talkdemonic. I can honestly say, in retrospect, that Talkdemonic was the best band at Stubbs last Tuesday. They don't have the traditional Portland sound, or at least the one we've come [...]

The show preview mentioned the potential to be drenched in sweat. Many were. It was hot. Stubb's staff was kind enough to throw bottles of water into the crowd that wouldn't dare give up their spots down front for something as silly as fluids. Alex Turner and the boys picked a helluva time to play an outside show in Austin, but touring in support of a recently released album sometimes requires scheduling to be less than perfect. It was a frenzied atmosphere, softened slightly by summer. To their credit, [...]
