Even in death, Osama Bin Laden feels the need to step into the public eye and for the first time, has an official Twitter account. The account, @ghostosama, is pretty funny and has been a nice break from reading everyone's condescending opinions on my Twitter feed. Here's a few of my favorites, 1) "I retired as the world champion of hide and seek." 2) "Can I getta #RIPOSAMA?" 3) "Just a hypothetical question....lets say one of my 72 virgins is a male. Since im dead it wouldn't be gay to [...]

Ahh, Coachella. What a fascinating place. My theory is that, as every organism is determined by its environment, Coachella's main feature is being far too close to a major metropolis. For those who regularly drop $400 for a bottle of vodka in an LA club out of what can only be a feeling of some kind of boredom or need for constant emotional entertainment, $300 for a pass can't be too much even if they don't give a crap about the music. So, there's that. There's a lot of fashion at Coachella which doesn't make [...]

First off, I have to apologize for the incredibly poor quality of the photos in this post. Given the scenario, though, and the fact that I was forced to use my phone, I imagine you'll forgive me... When I originally RSVP'd to what Foster the People described as a "loft party in Brooklyn", I was fairly certain that I knew what I was getting myself into: a room full of quasi hipsters swaying back and forth in a low-lit room. While my perception of the crowd was pretty accurate, the event itself was [...]

If you didn't know, we hosted an event at Union Hall in Brooklyn last night. We invited three of our bands to play what we called a 'The Wild Honey Pie Presents' show, and filmed the entire thing. I'm still working on the videos, but in the meantime you can check out these great photos taken by our own Ian Hultquist at the show. Thanks so much to all that made it out. I was blown away by the amount of people that ventured out into the rain to see a show in Park Slope. [...]

There's already been a ton of spoofs on Rebecca Black's "Friday", and rightfully so. Most are shit, but this one right here is not. Not only did Stephen Colbert bring down the house, but he's joined on stage by Jimmy Fallon, his house band, the Roots, Taylor Hicks, and the New York Knicks dancers. This is really fucking epic. Oh, and a relatively good spoof that acts a sequel to "Friday" below as well. And the original.

After Richmond-based Spacemonster released their EP, Gills , this January, I took some time to get a real feel for it. It's spectacularly dirty lo-fi pop, not something that always appeals to me. The short EP is clearly a bedroom recording; it's raw to the core, and yet, it completely works. From the glorious album art to the wacky moniker, I've got a lot of respect for what this dude is doing. Gills is incredibly consistent, so if you like one track, you'll like them all. Make sure to [...]

It's a city turned musical madhouse, an astounding limitless social gathering, an incredible city turned into a new kind of city, with its specific yet diverse demographic and constrained yet amazing lifestyle. It's performers all being judged by the business-like circus performers in some kind of straightjacket holding all the cards, texting a friend from four feet away in silence like strangers, beautiful websites made easy but not knowing what to do with them, a conference where you're taught about the importance of facebook friending knowing there's free beer outside - Knowing you will see at least [...]
Looks like Neighbors is giving away a brand new track! After releasing their spectacular EP, Hooligans , last June, the Brooklyn band played a steady stream of local shows, yet failed to announce plans of a full-length release. If this track is any indicator, our patient waiting may finally pay off. "Watergun" is signature Neighbors ; pristine baritone vocals and catchy synth pop arrangements. Lead singer Noah Stitelman again teamed up with producer extraordinair Kyle "Slick" Johnson , best known for his work with [...]

Yeah, yeah. I've been slow as can be to get our SXSW content up on the site. We're working on the Buzzsession we filmed at the Eventbrite Party , and are having illustrations done for the 10 bands/musicians that blew our minds. In the meantime, check out a few photo galleries. I got in a little bit of trouble for bringing my DSLR (removable lens camera) to approved SXSW venues, but I still managed to sneak it by security for Cults , The Dodos , Givers , Bear Hands , Jonquil , [...]

While we're still prepping our SXSW wrap-up article, I figured I'd post some photos from the party we had during SXSW with Cali-based online ticketing startup, Eventbrite . For those that came out, thank you so freaking much! It was great to put some faces to names, and to party with everyone. For those that weren't there, it was a greaser-themed party at Empire Auto complete with a retro hair-dressing station, an old Chevy to hop in a take pictures, tons of booze, and of course, two stages for the music. Thanks to [...]

We all may be mightily disappointed with the new Noah & The Whale album, but I know I speak for more than myself when I say, I will forever be a big fan of what they do. I am willing to overlook the new album in hopes that their next release is exciting and new, while still treating us to the elements of The First Days of Spring and Peaceful The World Lays Me Down that we love. They're brilliant dudes, and can do better than this! I'm all [...]

If this ain't the saddest darn puppet you've ever seen, I'll be damned. London-based singer/songwriter Keaton Henson recently teamed up with fellow directors David Wilson and John Malcolm Moore for this beautifully mordid music video for his track "Charon". This song off Henson's debut LP, Dear... , combines delicate vocals, precise picking, and devastating lyrics akin to Jose Gonzalez . The video has taken the Vimeo community by storm, racking up a whopping 23K views in only [...]

By now, you all know the exciting news that Arcade Fire won the Grammy for Album of the Year. It was a stunning turn of events that they were even nominated, and I am sure that not one person in that theater thought that they were going to actually win (especially Barbara Streisand , who couldn't even stutter out The Suburbs ). It was a moment that made a lot of Lady Ga Ga and Eminem fans say, "who the hell are they?" a lot of indie [...]

I saw someone interpreting Dylan's "Maggie's Farm" performance with Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers at this year's Grammys as a political message. Of course the song's themes of defiance in the face of a longstanding if vague oppression will always apply to political issues, but I don't think the 'message' here could have been more clear. A song that was initially played as the first song of the legendary, infamous Newport Folk Festival electric set in 1965 that caused a vicious backlash from the folk scene Dylan [...]

The moment that you press play on the first track of Christopher Paul Stelling's Daytrotter recordings, you will be hooked. The first clear, aching note of that acoustic guitar will cut through you, and you will be left with your mouth agape. The songs that comprise the sessions are some of the most sincere and touching songs I have heard in a good, long while. The simultaneously melodic and rhythmic picking of his guitar immediately brought to mind the frenetic playing of John Fahey , [...]
I'm pretty out of the loop. ( That's the understatement of the year, and it's only January.) For instance : I know next to nothing about this band Young the Giant , other than that they've recently released a record, and that their song "My Body" keeps getting stuck in my head. And that that's not a proper video. I know that. Here's a more proper video. And I now know that making "quesadillas" in [...]
It may surprise some of you, but we at The Wild Honey Pie weren't born with spectacular taste. Taste, especially for music nerds, is a slow Lincoln Logs like journey- with artists and albums laying the foundation for the snarky music writer to come. So every month (or so) we writers will share with you the records that made us the snobs and geeks that we are today. These aren't the most important records, or even favorite records, they are simply, our foundations. I [...]

As I searched through eMusic's top-downloaded albums, I came across something I found (relatively) interesting. Nestled at number 5, with surrounding competition the likes of The Tallest Man on Earth , Sufjan Stevens , and Beach House , was "Raise Your Glass", Pink's latest single. This, of course, immediately reminded me of the past few weeks that I spent at home in Texas, driving from place to place and listening intently to the radio. Considering that I never get the chance to experience the airwaves in New York, I'm always very curious [...]

Shell Games - Bright Eyes Shell Games - Bright Eyes ( Free Download ) The Calendar Hung Itself... - Bright Eyes The Calendar Hung Itself... - Bright Eyes ( Buy ) I've been listening to the new Bright Eyes track, "Shell Games", off of their upcoming LP, The People's Key . It's really fantastic , fulfilling every expectation I may have had for a single off the (?) final Bright Eyes album. Give it a listen and let me know what you [...]

Despite Emma Watson's fashion forward tendencies and Daniel Radcliffe's willingness to bare it all on the London stage, I've still managed to imagine the cast of Harry Potter as the young, somewhat innocent characters I pictured when I read the books. David Yates , though, does an incredible job of transforming the youngsters into actual adults. The movie really captures the solitude and maturity of the characters in a way that I didn't fully experience from reading. The Deathly Hallows itself wasn't particularly artful or unique, but it [...]
