The music of St. Vincent always seems to find a way to walk the line between enchanted and menacing.  However, on her newest Record Store Day track, "Krokodil" St. Vincent forgoes that whole "enchanted" thing and sets her sites towards straight-up ferocious sludge.  And of course, the inundation of grime suits her (hell, what wouldn't suit her!?).  From the get go, "Krokodil" is drums full steam ahead with twisted guitar lines that warp right around Clark's stretched out, whiplash vocals.  The track is unforgiving, leaving you with no time to catch your breath.  However, amidst the [...]

With their first Coachella 2012 performances a not-quite-distant memory, over the weekend some artists engaged in live collaborations to make for unique experiences in their second fest go-around. John Fogerty joined the Black Keys , Annie Clark of St. Vincent sang with Andrew Bird, and Thom Yorke came out during Modeselektor's set to perform "Shipwreck." The spine tingling magical moment of the weekend was during Radiohead at the end of "Karma Police" when the crowd continued to sing "I Lost Myself" after the band had stopped. Photo by Philip Cosores Last night St. Vincent played Coachella Weekend 1 and got a fantastic turn out in the Gobi Tent despite clashing with Jeff Mangum and The Shins. She rewarded the audience by playing a new song called "Krokodil" which will be released for Record Store Day next week. It's a punk rock song that saw Annie Clark crowd surfing and generally rocking out. You can watch St. Vincent's whole performance below, and skip to 37.40 to see "Krokodil."

Coachella's week one festivities continue to fill the media waves, and we are here to document it all. Catch two more notable sets from indie powerhouses, St. Vincent and Radiohead. Man, oh, man. I watched the majority of this set on the live stream and let me tell you: Annie Clark can wail. And I mean both on vocals and on the guitar. I want you to especially rock out to the new song she plays near the end. It is apparently spelled "Krokodil" but no matter how you spell it, it has ROCK at the heart of it. In between the two weekends of this year's Coachella Music Festival , you would think most of the bands performing will be wandering aimlessly around California, unsure of what to do with their free time. Contrary to that thinking, though, a number of the bands performing at the festival will be performing at local venues for sideshows.
