David Byrne and St. Vincent got their tour bus wheels rolling last night with their first live show in Minneapolis. But instead of sticking to the tracks from recent collaborative LP Love This Giant , the pair decided to throw in a few pseudo-covers of each other's own material. Check out their take on Annie Clark's 'Cruel' above and a couple more cuts below. 'Burning Down The House': 'Northern Lights':

David Byrne and St. Vincent kicked off their Love This Giant Tour on Saturday night at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, Minn., where the pair and a large backing ensemble (12 pieces in all) treated the crowd to a mix from their collaborative album of the same name and songs from their respective catalogs. According to a review from the local Star Tribune , Byrne and St. Vincent "seemed hot to trot, full of cool ideas and nervy enthusiasm as well as some odd ideas and heady intentions that were not well thought out." Overall, the reviewer thought [...]

David Byrne and St. Vincent kicked off their tour behind Love This Giant in Minneapolis on Saturday night. And by the looks of the setlist and accompanying fan footage, it was an indie-rock version of the Watch the Throne tour. Byrne and Annie Clark performed material from their joint album plus cuts from each other's respective catalog, including Talking Heads' "This Must Be The Place" and "Burning Down the House". Clark played guitar and sang backing vocals on "Burning Down the House", and Byrne did a nice jig during "Cruel". [...]
It being Friday, and just shy of half-way through the ninth month of the year, this morning I ( @andykahn ) decided on a whim to tweet out my Top 9 Albums of 2012 (so far). Along with the nine I chose, I also added a handful of, “Honorable Mentions,” that didn’t quite make the cut. With a quarter of the year left, 2012 has thus far proven to be another impressive year of album releases. #9 album of 2012 (so far) @ mapsnatlases "Beware [...]
The music never stops in Minneapolis! This Friday features Martin Dosh Turns 40 at the Turf Club, and NOFX plays the Cabooze Outdoor Plaza. Aaron Freeman (also known as Gene Ween) returns to Minneapol

The title of this album is incorrect or, rather, incomplete. Yes, this is a collaboration between David Byrne and Annie Clark of St. Vincent but there's a third, equally important member: the brass. Love This Giant , out on 4AD/Todo Mundo , is absolutely packed with brass sections, melodies, and blasts. It gives off a temporal vibe, especially when placed in contrast with the electronic flourishes that are provided by the two talented musicians. Each track finds a new way to use the instruments [...]

Jonah Bromwich taught Marley Marl how to use the horn stab on Lords of the Underground's debut. David Byrne and Annie Clark of St. Vincent can sometimes come across a little cold. Their music is high fidelity. It's pointed and perfect. You imagine them leaning over their songs with scalpels, carving out all the excess fat. Doctors Frankenstein, making masterpieces instead of monsters. They know this. In a recent interview with Pitchfork , Clark said “We both sometimes think of music in terms of riddle and form.” Byrne was even more blunt: [...]

St. Vincent is the performance pseudonym for Annie Clark, a very talented American multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and former member of both The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens’ touring band. She recently collaborated with David Byrne, head vocalist of the Talking Heads, on a new album released this week, Love This Giant . The two co-wrote 10 of the 12 tracks on the disc, with each artist also penning one song individually. Their first single, "WHO", is an effective and effortless blend of naturally programmed percussion, featuring lots of mid-range brass and reed instruments such as the trumpet, saxophone, trombone , French horn, tuba, and euphonium. The result is a compellingly unique, [...]

As we mentioned , September 11th drops us right in the thick of some great music this week. Look at these two guys above. They're just making my year with their new album Negotiations , which you can stream in its entirety below. We've given you the whole spiel on these guys here and here . You get it. We're excited. We've already listened to the album about 5 times. So if you're a Helio Sequence fan, you won't be disappointed with Negotiations . The variation with this album is that there [...]

David Byrne & St. Vincent Love This Giant 4AD Records [2012] Fire Note Says: David Byrne and St. Vincent produce an album full of soul, brass, beats, and bombast that will keep the groove for plays to come! Album Review: David Byrne has quite a musical past with everything from new wave and world music to alt. rock and pop. St. Vincent (Annie Clark) could be described [...]
A lot of collaborative projects arise from a mutual appreciation amongst their contributors. Others assume the spirit of a mentor/pupil relationship. The duo of David Byrne and Annie Clark (penname: St. Vincent) seem to be harnessing a bit of both. Though they never sought each other out (they met at Dark Was The Night ), they make quite a bit of sense as a duo. There’s the grizzled veteran, whose wildly enterprising imagination has carried him on to a multitude of other artistic mediums, and the demure but fiery singer-songwriter, who is swiftly becoming a household name. There's the inevitable wildcard [...]

There's a moment on Love This Giant , - the collaborative album featuring avant-garde, alt-rock Talking Heads founder David Byrne and, equally avant-garde, baroque-pop singer/songwriter St. Vincent - during "The Forest Awakes", when the horns swell in time, and the string section alternates crescendos from baritone to alto, where I thought to myself, "Wow, this might be the greatest St. Vincent album I've ever heard." And then, as if to hear my thoughts, David Byrne's voice comes bellowing in on the following track, drawing me right out of the euphoric trance of experiencing one of the best musical performances [...]
