Good morning! Hope your week has improved as much as mine has. We have three stellar tracks to share today from St Tropez, Blind Architect, and the new Josh Mease project, Lapland. St Tropez - "In Pictures" Single out now on Bandcamp This San Francisco-based quartet just released my new 'jam'. On their best single to date, St Tropez's "In Pictures" moves from listless melancholy to jubilant explosion. [...]

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]

The title of this album is incorrect or, rather, incomplete. Yes, this is a collaboration between David Byrne and Annie Clark of St. Vincent but there's a third, equally important member: the brass. Love This Giant , out on 4AD/Todo Mundo , is absolutely packed with brass sections, melodies, and blasts. It gives off a temporal vibe, especially when placed in contrast with the electronic flourishes that are provided by the two talented musicians. Each track finds a new way to use the instruments [...]
It's been one hell of a day for people who like their music free and completely separate from their hard drive. NPR is offering up a stream of David Byrne and St. Vincent 's collaborative LP Love This Giant one week before it officially hits stores. The album was recorded in Hoboken, NJ at Water Music Studio, where Byrne and Annie Clark were joined by a brass section comprised of members from the Dap-Kings and Antibalas. Stream the album below, and make sure to pick up the 12-track effort when it drops on September 11th via 4AD/Todo Mundo.
We've heard a couple of songs from Just Tell Me You Want Me - A Tribute To Fleetwood Mac over the past few months. Today we get to stream the entire project which features covers of Fleetwood Mac from the likes of Tame Impala, MGMT, St. Vincent, Washed Out, The Kills and Lykke Li. Stream it in full below and from the 14th of August you can pick up a copy of it over here .
David Byrne and St. Vincent are offering up another track from their forthcoming collaborative LP Love This Giant , which is set to drop in early September. We previously heard album opener " Who ", which the pair gave us last month, and now you can stream "Weekend In The Dust". If you head over to their official website , you can stream both songs in full, and if you pre-order the album you will receive a download of the latter. A fan newsletter gave us some choice words from the pair, who [...]

It’s Annie Clark’s turn to cover Fleetwood Mac for this summer's Just Tell Me That You Want Me tribute compilation, and she’s collaborated with Craig Wedren of Shudder to Think on a crunchingly distorted cover of “Sisters of the Moon.” Clark only takes over lead vocals toward the song’s latter third, but you can’t escape those classic guitar wails – this cover sometimes reminds us of the doom-y, operatic b-side “Grot” from her Record Store Day single, with, of course, an added (and excellent) vocal performance from Wedren. [...]
St. Vincent ’s incredible Strange Mercy dropped last summer and Annie Clark’s releases since then have leaned more toward the raucous (see her incendiary Record Store Day 7”), but here’s a bonus track from the Japanese release of Strange Mercy that you’ll dig if you preferred her more orchestral (but just as dark) cuts, “This Wave.” Over a ton of Old West echoed whistling, military drums, haunting piano, and spiraling strings, Clark lays down chillingly beautiful and classically inscrutable vocals. The end product sounds [...]
It's hard not to dig anything Annie Clark and St. Vincent have done in the past few years. After releasing her third album, Strange Mercy , many have swooned for her sultry vocals and intricate guitar work. And today we can swoon once more as a track that has slipped through the net for many has hit the net. It's taken from the Japanese version of her latest release and is titled "This Wave". See what you make of it below. (Via LB4YB / Tumblr )
Whether you know it or not, you may well have been exposed to Texan multi-instrumentalist Daniel Hart . The most obvious and likely exposure would be through St. Vincent , both as a member of her backing band as well as being featured on "Actor" . But if you’ve listened to or seen John Vanderslice , Other Lives , or The Rosebuds , you’ve at least heard Hart’s contributions. There’s even Hart’s former band [...]
Another Record Store Day release that many were hankering for was a 7" from Annie Clark aka St. Vincent . On that 7" were two brand new tracks from the guitar whiz and boy are they good. The tracks are dirty, fuzzy monsters that you'll just keep on going back to again and again for more listens. Check out "Krokodil" and "Grot" below. "Krokodil" "Grot"
