While Friday night's Williamsburg incarnation of the Portlandia Tour featured the likes of Adam Horovitz and Hugh Cornwell (of the Stranglers), St. Vincent's Annie Clark showed up at Saturday's stop at the Bowery Ballroom, where she performed Pearl Jam's " Black ." When Carrie and Fred said that every night's show would be different, so they ain't lyin' bout that ( BV Chicago reports that that city's show featured Sam and Spencer Tweedy as well as Rookie editor/wunderkind Tavi Gevinson and the Mekons' Sally Timms). Watch St. Vincent perform a new cover of Pearl Jam's 'Black' in NYC.

Photo by Katie Scheuring St. Vincent - ahem, Annie Clark - knows her share of covers . Last night, the Portlandia Tour stopped at New York's Bowery Ballroom, where rather appropriately Clark chopped out a cover of Pearl Jam's '90s classic hit, "Black". Stripped down, desolate, and soothing, Clark channels her inner Eddie Vedder here, ultimately proving she does still dream of the '90s . Check it out below, courtesy of Pigeons & Planes . In related news, see what cover she opts for [...]
If you've seen Elvis Costello's performance on SNL from the 70's, you'll know why this is funny.

Tweet Watch the excellent St. Vincent perform their song "Cheerleader" below, taken from the album "Strange Mercy" . My highlight of 2012 so far is by far the little tribute they play at the start to Elvis Costello 's 1977 SNL performance . Just when I didn't think I could love Annie Clark anymore. Connect with St. Vincent: Facebook | Twitter | Website [...]
Kicking off this week's late night performances is St. Vincent , who visited the set of Conan to perform the song "Cheerleader" from her latest LP Strange Mercy . But, before performing a fantastic live rendition of the track, St. Vincent launched into Elvis Costello's "Radio Radio" only to stop and say, "I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, there's no reason to play that song." The move, while perhaps unknown to many, was actually a witty acknowledgment of Costello's infamous 1977 Saturday Night Live performance, of which you [...]

Last night, St. Vincent took Strange Mercy cut "Cheerleader" to Conan , starting the performance out with a nice homage to a certain famous Elvis Costello moment . Watch the video down below. Read More...
Back in 1977, Saturday Night Live had a contest to allow a viewer to become a host for the night. It was won by Miskel Spillman, an 80 year-old, who found herself hosting the Christmas show for that season. Her record as the oldest person to present the collection of overlong sketches and overused characters would stand until the beatification of Betty White; her record as the only non-showbiz presenter stands. Her programme also holds a footnote in musical history. Originally, the musical guests were supposed to be the Sex Pistols. Their criminal records made getting [...]
St. Vincent paid tribute tonight on Conan to Elvis Costello’s infamous SNL performance . She launched into Costello’s “Radio Radio” before announcing to the crowd, “I’m sorry ladies and gentleman, there’s no reason to play that song” and then performed “Cheerleader.” (Read all about the original 1977 incident here ) Watch the video below and pick up the album Strange Mercy on iTunes , Amazon MP3 , CD , Vinyl deepgoa.blogspot.com underground music guide [...]

Well, Conan certainly kicked the week off to a good start. Last night, Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent , stopped on by the show to knock out a glimmering rendition of "Cheerleader" off of CoS Album of the Year , Strange Mercy . Rather humorously, Clark started the performance with a sly pop culture-savvy nod to Elvis Costello's controversial 1977 Saturday Night Live performance by charging into "Radio Radio", only to stop and state apologetically, "I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, there's no reason to play that song." It was an odd move, [...]

Louise Quinn is a singer/ songwriter with A Band Called Quinn . She has sung on several Kid Loco albums & he joins her on forthcoming single 'Oh Jackie' to be released on Tromolo Records in the New Year alongside the band's much anticipated new album Red Light Means Go. The band have three tracks featured on Series 2 of Lip Service which airs on BBC3 this spring. Here are her thoughts on the top 5 albums of 2011; I've not sought out any new music this year but through the ether certain albums have [...]
Our annual list of late night television's best performances has quickly become an annual exercise in big-upping Jimmy Fallon's music talent booker. Way to go, person responsible for pointing those Studio 6B HD-cameras at our tag cloud: Bang the Fallon gong (btw, there should be a Fallon gong), a full 70% of this list comes from Late Night With Jimmy Fallon 's 2011 archives . [And while we're blanket congratulating Fallon and his staff, please join us in a hat tip to the Roots for making the list's Top Two performances Top Two-ier.] This list is [...]
The Gummy Awards rollout continues today with Your Top 10 Music Videos Of 2011, and while there's not a lot of surprises here, it's a strong list capped by a beyond-worthy champion. There's a little overlap with yesterday's Top 10 Tracks list, but not a lot, and if you have any reason to complain than maybe you should have done more about it, huh? We're definitely glad one video featuring a lone, quirky dancer beat the other video featuring a lone, quirky dancer (NO SPOILERS) but maybe we've said too much already. Check out Your Top [...]

With two - time best video of the year winner, Andreas Nilsson taking 2011 off to focus on adapting Ingmar Bergman’s horror classic Hour of the Wolf for the stage, the field was wide open for a new batch of directors to step in and create some really amazing work. Two all-caps video-making collectives - CANADA and DANIELS - dominated the year with their visually spectacular and incredibly innovative clips, while a number of old faves like Garth Jennings, Patrick Daughters, Megaforce and Keith Schofield did some spectacular [...]

Annie Clark, best known as St. Vincent , is wrapping up her North American tour for Strange Mercy, and she played her second to last show of her tour in New York. I was going to go, but I was really busy that night, staying in and watching videos of St. Vincent play the guitar. I liked her before I knew about her guitar skills, but to see her live (in videos) actually playing and singing, whew. I wasn't sure if I loved her or not, but it's decided-add Annie Clark to my indie rock crushes. [...]
If you're a fan of Nick Cave, The Birthday Party, Fucked Up, Alec Empire, Primal Scream, !!! and many, many other purveyors of politically-charged musical rage, you owe Mark Stewart a pint. St. Vincent is another one of those others, having been playing a very hot cover of The Pop Group's "She Is Beyond Good and Evil" in her recent live shows, which she busted out on US TV show Jimmy Fallon last night. It's sending the internet is all aflutter, and with good reason. Her unhinged version more than does the original justice. It's prompted a twitter exchange between [...]
The first season of Portlandia , the IFC sketch-comedy show from Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, had a ton of cameos from indie-ish celebs; consider, if you will, last year's segment " The Deuce ," which starred Corin Tucker, James Mercer, and Colin Meloy. From the look of things, season two of the show will feature even more musician cameos - a Coachella main stage's worth, really. According to Rolling Stone , the next season will include appearances from Joanna Newsom, St. Vincent's Annie Clark, Eddie Vedder, Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock, [...]
