The lineup for Central Park's annual SummerStage series is beginning to reveal itself, and if Pavement's four sold-out September shows don't make the 25th anniversary special enough, there is plenty more going on at New York City's Rumsey Playfield in the coming months. As part of the April issue of Esquire, the almost 80 year-old men's culture magazine asked five singer-songwriters to take part in their Esquire Songwriting Challenge by inviting them to the Shack-Up Inn in Clarksdale, Mississippi to take part in a two-day fashion shoot with photographer Danny Clinch. While technically the calendar would have us believe that we had just entered into the fall months, heading to Central Park a few Fridays back to catch Phoenix at SummerStage would have had you believing otherwise, as the sold-out crowd was ready to bask in one of the last outdoor concerts of the season at the city's most serene and picturesque venues. Last year at this time Passion Pit were playing a month of residence shows at Pianos followed by a headlining spot at Mercury Lounge. My how things have changed for this band.
