Ridiculously underrated UK songstress Sunday Girl (née Jade Williams ) has been quietly pumping out some of the most scrumptiously lush electro-pop tunes for the past two years, including "Four Floors," "Stop Hey," and most recently, her shimmering cover of Sunscreem 's "Love U More." Most recently, the singer recorded a cover of The Pixies ' "Where Is My Mind?" which is now being used in a popular advertising campaign for UK vacation company, Thomson. Much like Ellie Goulding 's [...]

You know the only thing I love more than a lush electro-pop cover of the 1992 Sunscreem hit "Love U More" as crooned by Sunday Girl ? A lush electro-pop cover of a 1992 Sunscreem hit as crooned by Sunday Girl set to a video of various fashionistas and model types dramatically whipping their hair in stylish and expensive-looking garments on loop, THAT'S WHAT. Lucky for me, all of my greatest wishes have just come true. "Love U More" will be [...]

Sunday Girl - Love U More ( RAC Mix) [ mp3 SoundCloud] lovely Sunsreem cover by Sunday Girl, remixed by RAC

Fact: Sunday Girl can do no wrong. The English chanteuse, nee Jade Williams, has released three superb singles — the glitchy dream-pop of "Four Floors," a frosty cover of Laura Branigan 's excellent "Self Control," and the ebullient Jim Eliot -produced "Stop Hey." Way back in April, her impossibly gorgeous fourth single "Human Love" was scheduled for release, then inexplicably delayed, and all went quiet in Camp Sunday Girl. ("Human Love" remains the third-most-played song in my iTunes — it may be my favorite song this year.) Now we find out why: [...]

Early 90s progressive house/pop assault on the charts. Should have suceeded. Had everything going for it - singalong choruses: check; attractive frontwoman: check; credible remixers: check. Don't know why it didn't. One of the first rave-pop groups with live-performance abilities as well, Sunscreem formed around Paul Carnell and Lucia Holm (both on keyboards and vocals) with a handful of contributors including guitarists Darren Woodford and Wayne Simms, bassist Rob Fricker, drummer Sean Wright and Baz the DJ. Holm was a session cellist -- with credits including Dream Academy's "Life in a Northern Town" -- when she [...]

A very quick post on the grandaddy of synth-pop. In the 1990s, his releases were inevitably remixed by dance artists, with rather uneven results. Here, Scots legends Slam and dance-popsters Sunscreem have a go. From Wiki : Jean-Michel André Jarre (born 24 August 1948) is a French composer, performer and music producer. He is regarded as a pioneer in the electronic, synthpop, ambient and New Age genres, as well as an organiser of outdoor spectacles of his music which feature lights, laser displays and fireworks. [...]

Who'd have thought I'd get 12"s from the same group from two different charity shops? Not me. They were early releases by progressive house group Sunscreem. From MOG : One of the first rave-pop groups with live-performance abilities as well, Sunscreem formed around Paul Carnell and Lucia Holm (both on keyboards and vocals) with a handful of contributors including guitarists Darren Woodford and Wayne Simms, bassist Rob Fricker, drummer Sean Wright and Baz the DJ. Dance acts, inherently, are one hit wonders. A club favourite becomes a chart hit and that's yer lot. Some, like Leftfield, Orbital, Faithless, The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy all seem to have gone "Bugger that", become a bona fide act on the back of albums and gone stratospheric, guaranteeing their place in the dance pantheon as dance masters. But what about the acts who also delivered so much but had their place so cruelly snatched away by the ravages of time. Bizarre Inc., Chicane and Underworld will just about scrape in, but here are three others, gone... but not [...]

I'm nicking this from audio.out - It saves me ripping it from vinyl. Thanks and Down with news! Sunscreem Love U More (Slame) My record has, I think, a mis-print in that the mix is by 'Slame'. Loved DJing this in a Sheffield Crookes Cellar years ago - a lady complained there was no beat just as the the bounce and clicks kicked in! [...]

Today we have Part II of My So-Called Life Time Travel. Of the songs below, only The Lemonheads' "Dawn Can't Decide" appears on the official soundtrack album. Episodes 10 and 11 are particularly rich in musical goodies. Episode 10 is pivotal for wildchild Rayanne (played by AJ Langer), who plans a birthday party for herself at which she nearly overdoses. Episode 11 centers around a school dance. The dance tune "Pressure" provides an opportunity for Wilson Cruz, who plays Rickie, to show off some spectacular moves. But it's the last song [...]
This one's a smidge on the twee side, but might be just the thing to get your juices flowing this Veteran's Day. There's some songs about drugs, some songs about celebrities, at least one song (track 16) by a band that I can't find any information about whatsoever, and, at about the halfway mark, a former president talking. Try not to let your client get distracted at that particular moment. (more...)
