SuperJimenez's debut album Bang was a long time in the making. After signing to Reekus Records in 2006, the band left after only one single, unhappy with the labels attempts to pigeonhole them. But their newfound freedom quickly took a hit, when guitarist Rhys was deported back to Australia for nine months. Bang finally came out earlier this month. State's review gave the album a grilling , and was the cause of one of this website's more heated discussions. In the spirit of fairness, State met with vocalist Ronan and bassist Nick, to talk [...]

I'll try to bring some alternative news to the Irish music blogsphere now! A Murder Plan with humour! " Murder Plan are a vaudeville alternative blues band who wink a hint of chaotic mania. With songs & styles encompassing rock, tangos, Balkan gypsy sounds, blues & jazz, they mix & match motifs like a drunken arsonist in a Parisian police line-up. The band is made up of Stephanie O' Keeffe (vocals), Dara Melinn (guitar), Paddy Lynch (drums), Donal Melinn (bass) and Cathal Melinn (piano). None of the Melinns are related to each [...]
A quick look at the Wikipedia listing for Superjimenez reveals a criminal case of web deceit, with the words unique and energetic being levelled at the Dublin based foursome. Not to rain on anyone's parade but, on the basis of Bang , Superjimenez are about as unique as what Louis Walsh peddles out annually. With enough of a live following, including a triumph at Oxegen, and sufficient media interest from all the right people, this band have a strong package to create musical success yet after hearing this record something is evidently amiss. Superjimenez have a distinctly [...]

Taken from his website are a few downloads for your pleasure. Too Many Years You Dear (Live) [...]

It all started in Galway so it seems sorta appropriate that SuperJimenez should find their drummer in Supermacs (not sure if he was sucking a drumstick pulled from a snackbox at the time though). From such unlikely sources has sprung an indie sensation capable of producing springy numbers like 'Helicopters'. The song dented the Irish charts (which ain't much of an achievement in itself as a
Sorry there were no posts at the weekend. My internet connection went to pieces. So in the time since my last post, Richard Hammond crashed at 300mph.And recovered. So much so that he's going to get the Sugababes to sing for him. As long as it's not Hole in the Head I don't think he'll mind. They also have a greatest hits album on the way. This is a great take on it. Ever wonder what a Nirvana song would sound [...]
