"Los Blenders le robaron el peinado a tu papá, los calzones a tu mamá y el corazón a tu hermana." ¡Vaya maravilla! El pasado 22 de Enero, Los Blenders, unos chicos salidos de sus respectivas casas en el DF, se subieron al tren de su más reciente EP Meta y Dinero para surfear, bailar y [...]

Sun-kissed but cynical, this all-female surf-pop band hides a rowdy lifestyle between layered harmonies.

Heavy Hawaii // “Airborne Kawasaki” I guess I spoke too soon when I said that I would love a proper album from Heavy Hawaii but have learned to not count on one. I posted their demo “For people who like to smoke…” last week and not long after that post the band announced the coming of their debut album. Funny how that worked out. Apparently the album is called Goosebumps and will be out on March 19th through Art Fag Records . A [...]

Au Dunes - Sugar Cubes Surf’s Up. It’s Friday. Rock on. You can pick up this Portland band’s small EP 73’s & 88’s , this track is found on, which was released Jul 2011 and be sure to check out their newer self-titled EP released last September. My favorite track off that one is Red Thang .

Today, I learned that there's on city on the west coast of Norway named Bergen. Apparently, Bergen is the top recommended city to visit if you're traveling in Norway. The place sounds delightful ( here ). Sorry that isn't music related. Just a fun geography fact. It also makes a great segue for introducing the band that's being featured. The DIY duo of Nicola Galati and Alberto Bagarello found inspiration in the city's beauty, and they decided to name their band after it. The result is Bergen, a dream pop band that calls both Padua, Italy and Glasgow, [...]

London based artist, Fyfe, hit my email with no background information other than his age, 23, and location. I don't mind Fyfe being a man of mystery. I've been anonymous as just "Matt" for almost a year now. Who am I to judge? Included was a link to his single, "Solace", off of his upcoming EP, expected for March. So I took the bait, and decided to give his song a listen with no clue of what genre I should expect to hear. At first impression, "Solace" appears to fit into the category of downtempo, singer/songwriter. Woodwind keys, [...]

Holy s**tballs this record sounds so terrible but its so f**ken cool! Take that as gospel because I never use profanity to prove a point. Well, rarely. Sometimes. Okay, point is this lo-fi surf punk album is meant to sound all cassette tape hip circa 1969. And it works. Released earlier this month, Gayze 's debut album 'Black Soul' is available now through Bleeding Gold Records ( grab it ). Gayze - 'All Night' [...]
From Baltimore's Celebration , we head to Liverpool; from Beach House-inspired soul-pop to Meet Me at the Beach House. The latest track spewed forth from the SoundCloud account of enigmatic surf-speckled minstrels Beach Skulls , its three minutes recall that time during which Surfer Blood sounded fresh and ingenuous as oceanspray buffeted about the place by Mediterranean gusts. Astro Coast had just been outed, the domestic violence allegations were yet to be set against John Paul Pitts, and down beside the Cataluñan seaside the Floridian ensemble enthralled with an engrossing effortlessness. And the slacker's paradise that [...]

The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage // Shit Surf When the guys of The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage asked me if I wanted a cassette of their latest EP Shit Surf I replied with an enthusiastic “yes.” You see, I love these guys and have for some time. Because it’s so easy to just go through the motions these days, a sort of unofficial criteria that I hold music of this sort to is: “Do these guys sound like they’re having fun?” Listening to this short and sweet little EP I can answer [...]

Despite only being around for a month or so I feel Wolvves from out of Phoenix, AZ are on the brink of making a real big impact to the surf pop music scene. Infusing hip hop in to their jangly pop punk anthems, yes that's right hip hop, the end result is pretty damn awesome! Check out the video above. Download for free below. Monster wave of obscure ‘60s surf gems It’s no accident that this deluxe 4-CD set uses the word “Nuggets” in its title; this is an apt reference to Lenny Kaye’s landmark 1972 compilation of psychedelic and garage rock. An even better touchstone, however, is Bomp’s follow-on series of Pebbles releases, which dug deeper into the world of one-off local and indie releases. In that sense, Surf-Age Nuggets is the Pebbles (with a touch of Las Vegas Grind [...]

It seems Wavves' Nathan Williams has been busier than he lets on with his surfer/slacker/stoner persona. "Sail to the Sun" is a brighter jam than you'd usually expect from Wavves-gone is the heavy handed fuzzed out everything, and instead we've got, well, a really rad little pop-punk jam. Lok out for a new album off Mom+Pop this Spring.

Super-stoked anthology of Dick Dale’s surf-related tunes There are many anthologies, greatest hits collections and album reissues of Dick Dale’s material, but none have done the service of separately collecting his surf and hot-rod oriented tracks into parallel volumes. RockBeat’s issue of King of the Surf Guitar (not to be confused with his 1963 album of the same name ) and At the Drags does just that, offering a generous twenty themed tracks each. The surf volume includes Dale’s signature rendition [...]
