Local rag, " 303 Magazine ", will be having a party with some of it's closest friends at City Hall to commemorate the "Music Issue". I've been meaning to check out the place, but haven't had a reason to go. Maybe this will change everything. "Le Divorce will melt your face off, but in a nice polite kind of way." That is the explanation found on Le Divorce's facebook page. And we at Donnybrook, well, you know how much we appreciate politeness, right? Also, we love anything even remotely French. That's why this week's Most Fuckable Rockstar is….. Kitty from Le Divorce!!!! Name: Kitty Band: Vocals and Guitar, Le Divorce [...]

Probably one of the best collabos I've seen in a while. Local Hip-Hopper, Yonnas from the Pirate Signal , has joined forces with DJ Hot to Death to make a baby named Animals At Risk . They put together a Halloween themed teaser video with vocals from other local shredders, the Swayback . Look for them to start surfacing with live dates next month as DJ's and a proper show. More details below: Upcoming Shows [...]
What is the UMS you ask? Well that's a silly question. Many have called the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase the "South by Southwest of Denver." Originally a one day, four band gig at the Bluebird, this showcase has bounced between Bluebird and Gothic before finally moving (and exanding) to South Broadway in the historic Baker district. Otherwise known as the hipster herding grounds. Excerpted directly from the UMS About page: "At the UMS , the presentation of the music is as important as the music itself. It's the songwriter circle in the Persian rug boutique; [...]
In a moment of cutting journalistic integrity, Angora Holly Polo suddenly spewed forth factual information from said music fest so as to enlighten the general truthiness of the universe. Here are twelve things, prioritized by coolness, which probably happened at the Westword Music Festival this last Saturday: 12.) Ethan, lead singer of Gangcharger, kept getting electrocuted in the mouth during his set at Sutra. Somehow the mic kept sneakily sending jolts of electricity into his face while he continued to rock in legendary fashion, without Angora Holly Polo's even observing the [...]
Yesterday was the 15th Annual Westword Music Showcase and one of the best turnouts I've seen at this Denver event. A few days ago I posted a Special Edition Snobcast where I wrote an extensive preview about the bands I felt were highlights this year. This wasn't meant to diminish any of the other bands playing, it's just that in most cases I had already seen many of the other bands worth seeing. So now that the showcase is over and done with I'm sure you're wondering to yourself (or maybe even out-loud), "Hey Father Guido! [...]
Behind This Week's Snobcast: While I think vampires are definitely hot, I have not been able to understand the pure obsession with a book promoting abstinence by using one of folklore's sexiest creatures. I'm looking at you Twilight. From what I've heard about this book, it involves a male vampire and a human girl in the most fucked-up of relationships. I mean, the vampire watches her in her sleep, treats her like his property and she is completely reliant on him to a screwed-up level. Yet somehow this relationship that, [...]

As eventful as the first part of the weekend had been, the final day of the Monolith Music Festival proved to be even busier. Between the music filling the Colorado based festival's grounds to our interview with The Avett Brothers, Sunday was one of those days that left head spinning by day's end. Fortunately, Matt Friedman was up to the task and is back with the final installment of his one-of-a-kind perspective of the scene that was the 2008 Monolith Music Festival... INTERVIEW: The Avett Brothers at Monolith On the [...]

Monolith Day 2! So on the first day, there were a great many drunk people, violent people, rude people, you know, dumb asses. But on the second day, the number of people overall and the number of hobos saw a decrease. Last year, the second day had the Flaming Lips as a headlining act so a lot of people turned out. I think this year, the second day had, with all due respect to the artists, a less attractive line up. But it's hard to top the Flaming Lips, you know? Anyway, things were much more low key [...]

DOWNLOAD: The Swayback - I'm Waiting for the Man (VU cover) (MP3) According to the first two people in line, this is the second wave of fans looking to score a wristband to get into the Paul McCartney in-store . Wristbands for the in-store, which is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, were supposed to be handed out starting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. [...]

There is probably at least one person out there who will light up the comment boards the minute you read that The Swayback have chosen to cover The Velvet Underground's "Waiting for the Man." True, it's a pretty damned iconic song and the prospect of a new version may not be your idea of reverence. Do what you will, and in the meantime I'll keep it on repeat and will be wishing I had a car so I could blast it on the stereo with the windows down and the sunroof popped. The Swayback are from Denver and could easily [...]
