Earlier today the Scottish Music Industry Association announced via press release that eleven Scottish bands, DJs and producers will showcase as part of this year's South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. The updated list adds several new acts to those that were already made public by SXSW last month. According to today's SMIA press [...]
Olá, Nós somos os You Can't Win, Charlie Brown e vamos representar Portugal no festival SXSW 2012 [...]
Thursday, February 9, 2012 Jonny Corndawg To be honest, I'm super picky about my folk/country acts when it comes to SXSW. That's an exhausting week, and watching someone lightly pluck on a guitar while softly singing is the best way to get me to totally fall asleep while standing up. Mr. Corndawg, who will be using SXSW as a kick off for a two month tour, is not capable of this. The man oozes charm, he's hilarious on stage, [...]
Thursday, February 9, 2012 Mr. Gnome As I've said before, SXSW tends to turn out better for those that are in the process of doing stuff that doesn't just revolve around the festival. Mr. Gnome, as you probably guessed, is in that boat. They put out a full length last year, they have a 7" due out March 20, and now they're about to embark on a two month tour. In regards to their music, it's moody, experimental and usually packing some [...]
Full of insanely tight, angular and catchy as all get out jams on their debut LP, San Diego-based The Beautiful View's, life is beautiful is an album ready for the masses. Next month, they'll bring the tracks from the album on the road with national tour dates including a run to this year's SXSW. Listening [...]
Big Deal is certainly one of the bands that excites me about 2012. They just dropped their debut record, Lights Out , and there is nothing but good buzz coming from the duo right now. Today, they have dropped their emotional video for "Talk", which is somehow so powerful, without any percussion used. The duo vocals bounce off each other, in a symmetric pattern, and fills the listeners with angst and frustration. (Mean that in the best way) The band will be playing SXSW, as well as their first NY and LA gigs. March 11th [...]

Not to be confused with the day BBG-manned day party we're doing at Scoot Inn on 3/16 , or our TBA official SXSW showcases, BrooklynVegan will be holding it down on 3 stages for 4 days straight at Hotel Vegas and Vostead Lounge in Austin this year (1500 E. 6th Street). Save the dates, and stay tuned for lineups and much more. Continue reading "BrooklynVegan turing Hotel Vegas into 'Hotel Vegan' during SXSW (4 day parties, 3 stages each, all free)" at brooklynvegan

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 1,2,3 SXSW tends to be a little nicer to the acts that work hard, and this one certain does. Over the last year they've put out a full length and a single, and then they started 2012 with a free EP and word that they had landed the opening slot on the upcoming Yellow Ostrich tour. SXSW will be nothing for them! Ok, not really, but I do think they're going to make an impact. [...]
Tuesday, February 7, 2012 COTTON MATHER It's hard to believe that almost 15 years have passed since the Austin-based quartet Cotton Mather released their classic power pop LP, Kontiki. The album gained a cult following, received rave reviews in the UK music press, and got a lot of love from fellow musicians (such as Noel Gallagher from Oasis, Britt Daniel from Spoon, and Nicole Atkins). Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, Kontiki is being reissued as a double disc release [...]
