The Brothers Movement came into existence in 2008, after spending three years creating music under the name ‘Mainline’. This Dublin rock n roll band has supported the likes of Primal Scream, Ian Brown, MC5, Sonic Youth, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and loads more. Along with a new moniker, the band formerly know as, Mainline, added some new additions to their line-up. The Brothers Movement spent the first half of 2008 recording their debut album in Philadelphia with the Cobbs (BRMC, Peasant, War on Drugs). The Brothers Movement recently played at SXSW and were [...]
They list as their influences bands from an amalgam of genres and musical spectrums, but when you hear The Splinters play, it all makes sense. They are Sonic Youth meets The Shangri-Las , The Breeders meet The Evens . They are Ashley, Caroline, Lauren and Courtney. They are from Berkeley. And they'd like to rock for you. They caught our attention at SxSW with their mix of garage rock, girl-band, riot grrrl, folk and alternative. Plus, their debut EP [...]
Chairlift was a band we've had on our radar for a little while now and we finally got to see their set last Friday at Flamingo Cantina. Although the venue isn't known for its sound (Caroline looked a little perturbed while setting up), that didn't scare off too many people, as it was pretty packed. We had a nice spot on the right front part of the stage and we shot a video of their first song they played, "Planet Health".
Remember how Saturday Night Live used to have those interludes called “ Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey ” and then followed it up later with the less successful “ Fuzzy Memories by Jack Handey ?" Well, here’s a much less successful interlude to your day we’ll call “Fuzzy Memories by Drinking Buddy”. SXSW 2009 was an incredible time in the lives of Oz, Woody, Shirk and me. And we brought a few other friends of HearYa again this year. As usual, it was awesome and we were not. Here are my top fuzzy memories from the 3 days [...]
We've got a few more posts about SXSW 2009, but it's always a whirlwind and fun to share the experience. It was also our first time co-hosting a party in which we helped build the lineup. It was an incredible 15 hours with 17 bands, lots of drinking and a line out the door for most of the evening sets. I'm missing pics of Tigercity, BLK JKS and Morning Benders, so if anyone out there has some, I'd love to see them. Ferraby Lionheart The Henry [...]
With all that was going on, I didn't think we were going to get an opportunity to see Beach House during SXSW, but everything worked out perfectly. They took a little longer to set up and in the process we missed Vivian Girls on the outside stage, but it was well worth it in the end. You couldn't have torn me away from Victoria and Alex's set inside Red 7. They absolutely blew me away! We took a video of one of their new songs so you can see what we mean. [...]
