The 21-year-old singer appears on Aussie riser Gotye 's breakout 2011 single 'Somebody That I Used to Know,' and in the video, both wear nothing but body paint and the pained expressions of scorned lovers. It's about that time of year when music buffs of all sorts commence in Austin, TX to experience the pure chaos that is South By Southwest. The music portion of SXSW is a five-day adventure into any and all genres covering the large scope of the music world, above and underground. There are official shows and parties, and not-so-official shows and parties. Either way, you'll probably end up seeing a band that you've never heard of before and may not remember... though maybe you will. This hodge-podge of a festival is very hit or miss. [...]

This is my "I'm at SXSW this week and this blog might look a little bare until I get back to Toronto" post.

[The South by Southwest Music Festival, now 2,500-plus bands strong and spanning five-plus days, keeps growing and growing — music events started on Tuesday this year. Buzz Bands LA will be covering with "daily diaries." Here's an abbreviated one from what we saw after arriving, already sleep-deprived, in Austin:] @KRBronson on Tuesday at SXSW: Richie James Follin is 28 now, four albums with the Willowz under his belt, along with a solo record that everybody (including himself) [...]

We had so much fun last year, we decided to do it again like Cosby and Poitier. The second annual Hoop & Hang will be back in effect at SXSW. [...]
With a laundry list of parties and shindigs available to SXSW attendees, it's hard to pinpoint that exact event where one's attendance doesn't just seem worthwhile but almost necessary. There's [...]

Ever since the first listen of The Blanket Rule EP , it's been hard not to obsess over London five piece Breton . In addition to their experimental sound, we learned that experiencing the band live is more than just checking out some great music, it's a performance deeply enriched in multimedia. The band is currently heading to SXSW to make the rounds to promote their upcoming album Other People's Problems , which is out on March 26th via FatCat. When the complete chaos that is SXSW is over, the band will be making [...]

A few Saturdays back, Jack White unveiled a new song on Saturday Night Live to the masses called, "Sixteen Saltines". Today ol' Jackie officially shares with us that the song is his second single, which will drop on March 20th. To hold you over until then, you can have a listen to the song a few hundred times via the player below. In addition to the song being included on his upcoming debut solo album Blunderbuss , which will be released on April 24th via Third Man Records/Columbia, the single will also be available on [...]

As we wade our way through the throngs of music biz types who have descended upon Austin, Texas for South By Southwest 2012 (have you RSVP'd for Idolator's Pray For Pop party tomorrow?), we're left wondering who will be the big breakout stars of this year's fest. It is, of course, far too early too decide. (Besides, many minds are still mush after Jay-Z's Amex Sync Show last night ). And so we'll instead take a look back at the acts that made a ruckus here at SXSW one year ago then went on to [...]
Filed under: News Andrew H. Walker, WireImage Smashing Pumpkins icon Billy Corgan isn't impressed with the new generation of 'poseurs,' reports Billboard . The 44-year-old singer -- far from hitting Grumpy Old Man territory -- ripped apart younger musicians during a SXSW interview Monday (March 12), claiming he'd have to set himself on fire on YouTube to get noticed in the music industry. Never one to hold back, Corgan [...]
South by Southwest 2012 has become somewhat of a battle between West Coast and East Coast this year. We're fine with that as the City of Angels has tons to offer for every single type of musical palette, but what about all the L.A. folks heading out there to see something non-local? There are plenty of choices, considering all the international bands have also made the trek. So, to make things easier, here are 10 artists beyond L.A. who will be worth your time: Gary Clark Jr [...]
I'm looking for some help from our loyal readers. I am moderating a panel entitled SEEING RED: AESTHETICS AND VISUALS OF METAL this Thursday, March 15 at 2:45pm for the SXSW Music Festival. I will be discussing metal artwork from album covers to stage sets to merchandising designs with M. Shawn Crahan ("Clown") of Slipknot, [...]
