Vampire Weekend + Syd Arthur live at The Troxy, London (2 May '13) // Words: Saam Das The Troxy is something of an odd venue, a former East London cinema/theatre that now hosts live music, weddings and mixed martial arts. Similarly, Vampire Weekend 's latest venture to the UK was slightly odd, jetting in for the solitary live public gig. Not that the band held back on the night, delighting the sell-out crowd with a string of hits, as well [...]

Joel Magill from Syd Arthur put together a playlist for the site titled Signposts to Canterbury . Consider this a pretty great intro to the 'Canterbury Sound'. The band release their new double A side single 'Ode To The Summer / Edge of The Earth' through Dawn Chorus Recordings on March 11th. Far from being any sort of guide to the "Canterbury Sound" and its many myriad influences, I would like to present some of my favourite music from this genre. The music [...]

Labor day's bell has tolled for this summer past and so we have decided to make out own musical chimes sound out with our monthly mixtape. Although it's the return to the back to school, back to work, back to Autumn grind, these tracks are just what you need to make the medicine go down and make you look back on this last month of sunshine with a trace of nostalgia and a sigh of satisfaction. August of 2012 was epic, and so is our mixtape. 01 TEEN [...]

Syd Arthur - On and On (2012) 8.0/10 Dawn Chorus Recording Company Behind the cryptic name that is Syd Arthur, hide four chaps from Kent or should I say from a secret time-space garden of the seventies bathed in rich jazz-folk-rock sunlight. Although this musical garden is still quite secretive – sure, Google is full of track streams but it’s all but full of biographical info and even their site features a looming “Coming Soon”– its gate is opening more and more widely to lands beyond the British Isles with a first [...]

Canterbury based group Syd Arthur have been receiving high praise recently for their return to 60's and 70's inspired psych-rock. Their debut E.P Moving World impressed many with its dynamic sprawl of sound firmly rooted in the sounds of the past. Their debut album On an On has maintained the psychedelic influences and enhanced them with a modern pop sensibility. The group are now being hailed as contemporaries to alternative favourites Wolf people and Aussies Tame Impala. Impressively the band have already become so proficient inn the studio that they [...]

I had know idea who or what Syd Arthur was, but what I heard was not what I was expecting by any means. Moving World was another 'gift sent' to me by Ripple Music, and I really don't know what to make of it. It melds styles I previously thought un-meldable. Truly a conundrum of sound and style. I only label this as progressive rock because I don't know what else to classify it as, it is that much of an interesting mash-up of style. I'm going to assume Syd Arthur is [...]
