Daft Punk 's Random Access Memories was released yesterday, May 21st, and while we're still absorbing the new work, the duo prepared one last surprise for their fans. Nothing more, nothing less, than a bonus track called "Horizon" released exclusively on Japan iTunes. This little piece has been played on repeat all morning here at Golden Scissors, and probably, it will be played on repeat for the rest of the week. The single is delicate, bright, and very much addictive. It has some sort of magical vibe conveyed by a hazy guitar together with a simple and beautiful synth-line. "Horizon" will [...]

Legendary Disco producer, Giorgio Moroder , played recently his first-ever DJ Set in the United States at Output in Brooklyn, NY. We're honest fans of the Italian disco icon, way before the recent boom, specially after his participation on Daft Punk's latest album "Random Access Memories." If you're not familiarized with the background of Giorgio Moroder, you should definitely make some research. He's the man responsible for convincing Donna Summer to sing, helping the disco queen produce some of her greatest hits. He also produced for notable artists such as David Bowie and Blondie amongst others. For more info [...]
The kings of French House return with a new album that pays homage to the roots of their roots. WATCH THE REVIEW

Airbird & Napolian is a project from Joel Ford, known as one half of Ford & Lopatin (Airbird), and Ian Evans (Napolian). Today Cascine shared the second single titled "Special," which is taken from their forthcoming album to be released during the winter. The first single "In The Zone" features guest vocals from Erika Spring of Au Revoir Simone. It conveys a hazy and chill atmosphere, very well designed together with Erika's golden voice. Judging by these two tracks, we can only expect a solid and varied album. Both singles takes a different path. Whereas [...]

Here's an epic track from the Antime label compilation that's defined as synthtec. Midimum is label boss Martin Steer and Junk Beach is an odd beast. It merges big synth sounds with a tech house dryness and a little psychedelia. There's nothing shy or bashful about the track, it wants to be big and all encompassing. Succeeds. There's also a Last Minute version of the track, which halves the length and includes vocals. Makes more of the beach techno and psychedelic nature of the track but something gets lost in translation. Stick to the original. [...]

I had rather decided not to have any more remixes of the new Daft Punk album, after listening to a few tracks with an increasingly glum feeling. But since Poj Masta encouraged me to stick with it here are two more goes to see if they crack a smile on my otherwise po-faced appearance. Free download. The Golden Pony take on Doin' It Right . They amp up the synths and make it... bigger and shinier. It's fine, and after a few drinks it will have a singalong charm, but sober with coffee it still [...]
An eerie fusion of electronic music and hip hop on this new track from When Saints Go Machine, "Love and Respect," which is a cut from the Danish quartet's new album, Infinity Pool . It's dropping this week via EMI Records and !K7 Records.

It's been a while since we had anything that's unashamedly synth-based. Here's Detroit's Android Automatic back to remedy that failing. Free download. Neon Waves is such an 80s synth name. And the tune doesn't disappoint. Proper 80s synthy nu disco, but without sounding old. Break out the Miami Vice box set D, I'm coming in with my sleeves rolled up.

Lola’s Bad - Corona Wilde Lola’s Bad is the solo moniker of Evangelia C , a Greek born but London raised producer/performer that just released her debut EP Miss Abyss 2046 . Her music is a quirky amalgam of exotic dream pop and goth flavored synth electronic with her voice balancing somewhere between Z ola Jesus and Liz Fraser . Corona Wilde has all these elements to force anyone out there to pay attention in here [...]

Space obsessed Le Twan is back with another off world synth EP. Just out on Beatport, the EP has more synth funk heaviness than his rather good 1972 Ultimate Lunar Voyage DJ Mix which we had as a free download back here . Moon Dust is quite a hefty number for low gravity, with a synth funk bass twist to the beats making this more of a dance floor number. Zenita keeps that synth bass funk feeling but lighten things up a bit. Kolobok's 70s disco feeling verges on [...]

Louisville producer Caleb Cornett (aka Amtrac ) quickly became one of our favorite producers around here. It's quite interesting to see the capacity that Caleb denotes to ramble between several genres of the electronic world, without loosing identify. If you're following Amtrac for some time now, you will have to agree with us that his original material is always good. Just like the endless amount of remixes he has been dropping non-stop. For instance, his redemption of Chromatics "Birds Of Paradise" is without a doubt one of the best tracks we heard in 2012! Today Amtrac shared his official [...]

Standish/Carlyon - Gucci Mountain Do you remember Devastations ??? The Aussie band that released that very good Coal LP back in 2006 (and featured this incredible Nick Cave inspired song !), in Greece i could say that their had their moment! Now with Devastations in bed, the members found another moniker to express their musical worries. Standish/Carlyon just released their debut album, the Deleted Scenes LP , but with a [...]

Here's the story. Low Tide Theory followed the blog on Facebook and I thought that their music was top notch. So now I'm writing up a little feature on the band's album, Big Sky . I wish I could include the entire LP for you to stream, because it's a must listen for any synth pop fan. Pulling inspiration from some of the top bands of the '80s that made the genre great, Low Tide Theory manages to put the best retro trademarks together. The outcome is a combination of sounds that truly makes Big Sky a [...]

We have previously shared several times music from Swiss producer Worship ! There's always something magical behind his retro-futuristic 802s synth magical sound. If you remember a couple years ago, this specific genre was very much the "scene," just like Deep House presently. Worship already count with several remixes for people such as Moullinex or B-Xentric. His music has been equally played by the likes of Goldroom, Anoraak, Zimmer, just to name a few. Anyway, if you're fan of Worship, you already know that his glamorous synthesizer is the main character of his sound. For what we know "Close Encounter [...]

Earlier in Brixton, my bus got delayed by a passing mini march. I looked on as about 50 protesters stomped past, placards, megaphones and all, telling Lambeth Council that it shouldn't close Clapham Fire Station . The marchers looked like decent, wholesome people; and I was struck by the difference between their active, energetic character and my fellow passengers and I, who looked on stupefied, like amused tourists - only metres away, but actually a safe world apart from this disagreeable mob. That same contrast re-enters my mind when listening to Benin City 's wonderful third single, My Love . [...]

I know what you're thinking already! Might sound a bit old fashion, right? Since Modular is giving away the modern classic "Shooting Stars" from Australian duo Bag Raiders , I thought it would be a good idea to post it just to make sure we will have it forever in our database. Without a doubt that "Shooting Stars" is one of those tracks I've been hearing non stop since 2009! I clearly remember to play this one for the people here on the island, and it was always one of the highlights of the night. It's truly [...]
A beautifully eerie new cut from oOoOO titled "Mouchette," which should be featured on the project's debut full-length, Without Your Love , toward the end of June via Nihjgt Feelings. Dig the murk and the bass on this one! The vocal samples are an incredibly beautiful touch as well, and reminds me a bit of early Crystal Castles tracks as well. Enjoy!
Based between London and NYC, the enigmatic boy/girl duo Be&Bea return with this glossy, synth-edged, r'n'b-flecked number, as smooth and polished as a Galaxy chocolate bar: It follows the cosier pop tones of Grows .
Chiming in with one of the more distinct looks in the music scene in the past few months, the British 18-year-old Chlöe Howl has proven that she isn't just a face. She provides equally appealing vocals in her standout songs "No Strings" and "Rumour" and while "Rumour" didn't pack the initial spark that carried "No Strings"--and thusly, the young artists name--into the public's attention, it did provide vocal hooks that were ripe and ready to be worked with. Cue the Portland duo YACHT , who can be credited for accompanying Howl's clever lyrics and powerful vocals with a synth-heavy groove-filled beat [...]
