There are 500 copies in this pressing - 150 on "Oil & Gasoline" colored vinyl and 350 on "Blood & Urine" colored vinyl. Classy, huh? You can get the album from Shirt Killer or from the band on tour, although it's probable the more limited color will be gone by then. They will be in Louisville on April 10th at Skull Alley playing with Young Livers. It is the last stop [...]
by cheryl santa maria There are a gazillion different "types" of artists out there but for the sake of saving space, I'm going to group them into two categories. First, you've got the artists that use big words you won't understand. They'll tell you that most things come from pain and that the masses are unenlightened. This group tends to really like Jack Kerouac. And Douglas Coupland. I'm not insinuating anything - that's just an observation. The second group is the one that enjoys the process of making art. These [...]
This week Rob Carpenter of The Muckrakers Takes Five for Kentucky. The Muckrakers have been going strong for as long as I can remember and they have a new album out this week. The Muckrakers celebrated their ten-year anniversary by losing one band member, nearly losing another in a serious accident, and coping with the collapse of their first record label. Needless to say, the anniversary party wasn't a lot of fun. Combine all that with an exhausting year and a half of traveling across the country in support of 2006's "Front of the Parade," and [...]
This week the Broadfield Marchers take five for Kentucky. The Broadfield Marchers are a trio from right here in Louisville. They are fronted by Dustin Zdobylak on vocals and guitar, with brother, Mark Zdobylak on bass and Justin Carter on drums. They were with Secretly Canadian on their last album, When the Lifted Connive . This month they release a new album, The Inevitable Continuing , with Rainbow Quartz out of New York. The album is a concentrated 45 minutes, but contains a whopping 19 songs that will satisfy every lover of [...]

We begged for The Watson Twins to come back home in our Take 5 interview with them , and our wish was granted. The Louisville natives will be playing at the KCA-Bomhard Theatre on October 12, 2008. They just recently signed to Vanguard Records (once home to Joan Baez and more recently Yonder Mountain String Band ) and released a new album, Fire Songs , which is just amazing, in June. Tix are just $5 bucks. The Watson Twins- Sky Open Up
Arnett Hollow consists of the talents of Mike Dufresne (vocals/double bass), Chris Rodahaffer (vocals/guitar), Cheyenne Mize (vocals/fiddle), Rob Edwards (percussion), and Dave Chandler (guitar). Arnett Hollow began as a recording project by songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Chris Rodahaffer in the spring of 2006. Rodahaffer called on several talented musicians to assist with the recording to achieve his vision. Two of these musicians are Cheyenne Mize and Rob Edwards. The months of recording culminated with the release of Arnett Hollows' debut album, "After the Rain". Since the release, "After the Rain" has received continuous radio play, and Arnett Hollow graced the cover [...]

Photo by John Rott " The Glasspack has always been about creating a primal, unholy wall of sound built around Dirty Dave Johnson's yowling, distorted guitar pyrotechnics."-Jefferey Lee Puckett (Courier-Journal, Louisville) "Formed in the new millennium by singer-songwriter and front-man "Dirty" Dave Johnson, The Glasspack is the answer to the worn-out southern rock of the classic rock airwaves and the sudden staleness of modern hard rock radio. Distinctly of Louisville, this creative and unique Kentucky band has pulled its influences from the best of the 60's jam rock and 70's hard rock/punk, [...]
This week, a band that needs no real introduction at all, Louisville's My Morning Jacket , Takes 5 for Kentucky. MMJ is touted as one of the most important bands to music today by critics and fans alike, which is evidenced by getting perhaps the biggest gig possible - Madison Square Gardens for New Years Eve 2008/2009. It looks like the rest of the world has come to fully appreciate what Louisville has known for several years. These Louisville natives have played sold out venues all over the world, as well as appearances on shows [...]

Louisville's Cabin is this week's artist who took 5 for Kentucky. Cabin is a highly talented band consisting of Noah Hewett-Ball (Vocals/Keys/Guitar), Dave Chale (Drums), Billy Lease (Bass) and Sarah Welder (Violin, Keys, Vocals). Their music is beautifully composed, filled with catchy hooks, and melodies on the keys that get locked in your head (see the title track of the I Was There EP ). Even Sufjan Stevens said that Cabin is "a band you need to check out." I see big things in the future for this band. They are just too damned talented and fun [...]
