Talking Heads : Mr Jones [ purchase ] In honor of Valentine's Day, we will be celebrating the works of musical couples this week. It is difficult to mix a musical career and a love life, even if you are in a band together, so I imagine that some of our couples will be history. But I wanted to begin with one of the most successful rock marriages, that of Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz. They were married in 1977, prior to the release of the first Talking Heads album. That [...]

The Raleigh group throw up cover of "Road To Nowhere" for free download.
In which another indie band shares their impressive tribute to the über-influential New York outfit.

I'd been hearing about it for years, the return of '80s sounds to popular music, but due to my relative disconnect from new music, it took a while to hear it for myself. But, well, it's definitely there (Which I'm sure you already know). And you know what? I don't mind in the slightest. Essentially the vibe I get is that a bunch of people took the good sounds/tones/effects from the mainstream '80s and left behind all the cheesiness while applying them to interesting, late '80s early '90s alternative rock songwriting, with a dash of thoroughly [...]
This DVD takes viewers on a tour through the career of the innovative Talking Heads.

fiN - Once In A Lifetime [Talking Heads] | od watch the original
fiN asks the question Talking Heads have asked us again and again with 'Once In A Lifetime' cover.

If you haven't drunkenly sung along to The Cranberries' "Linger," there's room for improvement in your life. With that being said, a Cranberries' comeback—although smirk-worthy—is probably a few years too late. As excited as some people claim to be, are you really looking forward to this? You saw the video right? It's not that we wouldn't love to see the Cranberries make an epic comeback. It's just highly unlikely. It's much more likely that you'll continue to love singing along to "Linger" when it randomly comes on the radio and that will be the extent of your relationship [...]
![[Introducing] – Niteflights](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4014025_lg.jpg)
Tweet With a fresh, exhuberant sound, Niteflights are guaranteed to get your 2012 kicking right into gear. My first exposure to them was when they shared their brilliant cover of John Cale 's "Paris 1919 ", and was instantly pleased with what I heard. For me, the true test of a great cover is when someone can take a song and make it their own, which Niteflights are able to do while still staying true to the original. [...]

One more Canadian band I like. Redanda are from Hamiton, ON and make music that musically reminds me a bit of the Talking Heads. Their singer isn't David Byrne (who is?), but he has a kind of drawl that completely works over the instrumentation. It all comes out very 'British garage scene' to me, so if that's what you're into then you might dig this. Their best song is probably "This Bed is a Rock," but the others hold their own quite well. As the second EP the band's released this year, I must say that it makes for quite [...]

Sunday was a day of rediscovery for me. It had been years since I listened to Doolittle , the 1989 breakthrough album by Pixies, in its entirety. So many that I'd nearly forgotten what a fantastic album it is. Then yesterday, on the way home from my morning run, my iPod shuffle landed on "Debaser," the opening track, and it all came flooding back to me. What was it about Doolittle that made it such a perfect album, so much so that when I started to listen to it for the first time in [...]
Ourselves, along with Hit City U.S.A., couldn't be more excited for our show this Saturday at The Satellite featuring some of our favorite bands, PAPA , Cillie Barnes, and Lesands. Like any girl that's worth "rounding the bases for", it's always better to get to know them before you reach home plate. Of course these bands are all amazing, but falling in love is all about the details. So take some time and get to know each of these acts on a more intimate level. Here are 5 things you NEED to know about 3 bands you [...]

The shitstorm from last night's SNL performance by overnight blog/hype/interwebs sensation, Lana Del Rey, was heard/seen all over the Twitters last night. Who says money can't buy you fame/press coverage and a slot on the musical stage over at SNL after being on the scene for less than a year. Many other artists more worthy have never graced the Saturday Night stage that have been around much longer and to add insult to injury, LDR's proper album has yet to be released. Sigh. It's funny what happens when you get a little collagen injected and [...]
You know the old cliché about how a crowd can carry a performance to the next level? It's a rare occurrence but it can happen, certainly in sports and music. Here's an example. I've heard a few bootlegs of Talking Heads' 1980 tour, and they're all good. But this one, this is great. It was recorded in Rome, and the audience were like a fucking jetpack. They picked up the band and carried the sound off to places it had never been before. I've written about The Great Curve [...]

I love watching great performances or well-made documentaries featuring my favorite artists from the comfort of my couch. In 2011 a number of fantastic music-related films came out and it was nearly impossible to pick the 10 best efforts, so for 20112s list of my favorite concert films of the year, I expanded the list to 15 and there were still a few fine efforts which didn't make the cut. So with that in mind, we continue our long-standing tradition of detailing my top music-related DVDs/Blu-Rays of the year... 15. [...]

Good morning! Today is the first post in a new series called "Mayor's Mixes". Every Friday, or some similar time frame, I will select my favorite songs from the previous week (in today's case, two weeks) and post them in a "mix". The only thing is I won't post more than one song from a given post. Sooo, if you like the song, follow the "originally posted here" link to hear the rest of the post. Words aside, let's get started. Katy on a Mission - Katy B - Captain Planet Remix [...]
![Matthew Dear – Headcage [Preview]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3930476_lg.jpg)
Matthew Dear is set for Australian shores at the start of 2012. The NYC producer is rumored to release his fifth studio album in the same year, and the teasers and previews of the said record, are already floating about. The Headcage EP is a delightfully refreshing take on electronic influenced pop music, reminiscent of Talking Heads in both musicality, and David Byrne'esque vocals. It's a slightly more cheerful approach for Dear, with hardly any deep influence in aural sight... The video teaser by Morgan Beringer sums up the track perfectly. Looking forward to hearing the rest of [...]
