MP3: Tame Impala - Elephant Tame Impala has written many great songs, but "Elephant" is the first one I've heard that is unforgettable . With it's hazy production values and a riff like a fist, the track is just completely unrelenting through and through - it's a virus that will forever rest deep within your insides, constantly pummeling you as a reminder that this is the real fucking shit and you ain't worth a goddamn thing. Fuck yeah.
I don't know what came first: the song title, or the music. Because this song pretty much just stomps along unapologetically like an 8,000-pound pachyderm. That is, until the smooth keyboard breakdown at about a minute-fifteen in (triggered with a whispered, "here it comes,") which then gets ramped up a few notches about a minute later. "Elephant," the first single to be released off of the band's second album Lonerism , is not quite a sixties psychedelia throwbac k, but you can definitely see that influence in songwriter Kevin Parker's work.
