It’s tough being a Canadian sometimes. While bustling with fresh talent, our producers are frequently mistaken for our neighbours to the south. Of course, we are often too polite to cause a scene but it's due time that we shine a light on our accomplished artists and let the world know we hamper more musical scope than just the Biebs. Canada has a vast EDM scene comparable, if not better, to metropolitans in the US, and we are mighty proud of it. As opposed to beach or desert festivals, we have outdoor blizzard raves fit with ice sculptures [...]
We should really thank Epic Records for dropping her or we might not have this incredible Skipping Stone EP.

Indie twins Tegan and Sara have built a huge cult following over the past decade. It's about to get a lot bigger with “Closer,” the outrageously catchy lead single from their yet-to-be-titled upcoming album due early 2013. “Closer” fuses the smart, sprawling pop of the Killers with the sexy innocence of pre-breakdown Britney Spears, and the infectious synth sounds are sure to make you want to move. If “Closer” is any indication of what’s to come from the pair, we expect to see a lot of Tegan and Sara in the Top 40 next year. Until the LP’s [...]
As best as I can remember, I started listening to Tegan and Sara because of a girl. Everyone, guy or girl, probably has a band or two like this. But, sucker as I am for heart on sleeve lyrics and well-crafted melodies, these Canadian sisters quickly became far more than just a tool to make [...]

It still hasn't phased me that it's already July, summer and the start of Ottawa Bluesfest 2011. Just say the first day was loud, epic and out of this world. Who I saw on July 5, 2011 were: Coheed & Cambria Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes The Flaming Lips [...]

Vote for your favorite this year! I got this idea from Earbuds and Ticketstubs . To all the nominees nominated for CBC Radio 3 ‘'s Searchlight Contest. What outrageous things are you willing to do to win this competition? Go on http://r3.ca/0CvO to vote for you favorite Canadian music website. For dream sake "if I win", I would hold a big show (depending on which Ottawa venue to use) on winning the contest and get whatever band is available to play. Outrageous part will be [...]

Vote for your favorites this year! I was not aware that my site was nominated in CBC Radio 3 's Searchlight Competition for Canada's Best Music Website. Today of all days being Chinese New Years (Year of the Rabbit) and now this. I don't know how my site was picked out since I read on the day it was announced that mostly people listed these sites: Herohill , Chromewaves , iheartmusic , QBiM , Earbuds and Ticketstubs , Exclaim , Southern Souls , [...]

It's that time again! I'm Tiana from Ride the Tempo , the crazy Canadian girl who is here to bring you some Canadian tracks. Last month, the Polaris Music Prize happened and when the rest of the world was streaming it live, nobody who knew who half the artists were. When Karkwa won, I didn't even know who they were. So this month I decided to feature the artists in the Polaris Short List. Karkwa Karkwa are the 2010 winners for their album Les Chemins de Verre . The [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Canada With only a few days to go before the 2010 Juno Awards on April 18, the clock is ticking for nominees to get their red carpet ensembles ready. Handsome Furs keyboardist Alexei Perry, whose latest album with husband and Wolf Parade member Dan Boeckner, 'Face Control,' is up for Alternative Album of the Year, seems far from having a fashion meltdown though. "We're going to pull through our nicer clothes and at some point [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Canada Billy Talent frontman Ben Kowalewicz swears he didn't expect to get nominated at this year's Juno Awards , even if his band consistently sells out arenas in Canada and has sold 800,000 albums domestically -- including 140,000 copies of their latest, 'Billy Talent III.' The Toronto-based band is up for Rock Album of the Year, Album of the Year, Single of the Year for 'Rusted From the Rain,' and Group of the Year -- not to mention [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Count Five , Canada Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan originally founded the all-female Lilith Fair in 1997 in reaction to the male-dominated music industry. Since then, female artists have all but dominated the charts. But according to Canadian electro-popper LIGHTS -- who was in grade school when the inaugural Lilith Fair tour launched -- a male sensibility continues to saturate the music industry. "The truth is we are still a minority," the Toronto indie-pop star tells [...]

What happens when Tegan & Sara 's Sainthood highlight "Alligator" , a dainty '80's-disco-tinged number about clingy girlfriends, gets a chance to spend some time on remixing wizard Doctor Rosen Rosen 's operating table? Just like everything else Rosen puts a scalpel to, it emerges from surgery a far more dramatic electro-pop beast!! Grab the "Rx" below, followed by MP3's of the Canadian twin sibs taking on David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" and Prince's "When You Were Mine". DL: "Alligator (Doctor Rosen Rosen Rx)" ( alt [...]

Filed under: News , Canada Metric 's 'Fantasies' came true when the Toronto electro-pop band's breathrough album landed the indie act three Juno Awards nominations, including Alternative Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Group of the Year. In a typically confounding move by Canada's Grammys equivalent, Metric didn't get a best album nod -- possibly due to sales quotas in top-tier categories. But the Junos did give best album nominations to Billy Talent 's 'III,' Diana Krall 's [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , Canada This week the line-up for next summer's relaunched Lilith Fair was announced with Tegan and Sara -- currently enjoying a breakout year thanks to the crossover success of 'Sainthood' -- prominently placed on the bill. But while many already associate the Canadian twins with Lilith, especially given their folk-rock roots, Sara Quinn would like to set the record straight. "We didn't actually play Lilith Fair," she tells Spinner. "We [...]

Filed under: News , Holy Hell , New Music , Canada Fresh off their coveted Polaris Prize win , Toronto's F---ed Up have decided to give back. The hardcore heavy-hitters have released a tongue-in-cheek cover of Band Aid's classic 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' to help combat the epidemic of missing and murdered native women in Canada. "It's hard to find a balance between the song being a fun, playful holiday classic and the reason we're putting it out [which is] [...]

YSP! WSD! is back with a new album, and a possible US tour!

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Canada "It's so self-indulgent to play all your new music," Tegan Quin said during her Town Hall performance in New York City Friday night. "But here's the thing: it's not about you." She had a point. Tegan and Sara had just released their latest album, 'Sainthood,' on Tuesday and were kicking off a two-night engagement at the prestigious Manhattan venue. Dressed in black, the indie rock twins discussed the new effort (named after [...]
