Last week, singer/songwriter Katie Herzig released her fifth studio album, The Waking Sleep . On this record, the Grammy Award-nominated chanteuse abandoned her signature melancholy acoustic-driven sound in favor of matured and complex dark electronica layered with contemporary folk pop. The result? A near flawless compilation of music guaranteed to secure a prominent spot on the year-end list of anyone who gives it a listen. I caught up with Katie about everything from her creative process to what it feels like to be featured on so many various film and television soundtracks to plans about [...]

Paul Simon to play to the Ryman, Kings of Leon headed to the Final Four, Ten out of Tenn want to give you an iPad & coverage of last night's I'm Still Beautiful Benefit Fashion show.

CM Punk & Hayley Williams: Transcending punk rock, one bodyslam at a time. • Hayley Williams : You just went through a nasty public breakup with your band's founding members, what are you going to do next? Survey says: party with remaining friends at a professional wrestling match and release a snippet of a solo song in the face of your band just being called a guise for your solo project. Nice. Also, that MTV special about the band's drama aired last week... I genuinely tried to watch it, [...]
Chicago-raised Andrew Belle first came on our radar as a 10% share of this year's Ten Out of Tenn tour, a wonderful and uniformly excellent, ever-changing collaborative mix of mostly Nashville-based singer/songwriters. Hearing his music it comes as no surprise that in high school Belle often escaped to his bedroom to revel in what he calls the "meaningful pop music" of the time: the melodic rock of Counting Crows, Verve Pipe and Third Eye Blind. Wondering "maybe I can do this someday", Belle began to write and then perform his own songs. Now after logging hundreds of shows [...]
I'm enjoying some Andrew Belle music tonight. He's got a sweet pop swing and a cool voice, coupled with passion and substance. "Andrew Belle is a Chicago and Nashville-based singer/songwriter whose new CD The Ladder was recorded with Grammy award winning mixing engineer Vance Powell (The Raconteurs). The Ladder will be self-released on February 23, 2010 and Belle will be touring nationally with Ten Out Of Tenn this winter ." The tour happens over the next few weeks - the Phoenix date is on Thanksgiving weekend at Rhythm [...]

Listen to "Charlie Chaplin" A few months ago, I went on the W orst D ate E ver. Oh I wish this was a dating blog. It's an... interesting story. But there's a light at the end of every tunnel, and that date's light was Katie Herzig . A few nights before we went out, Mr. WDE mentioned that we should go to Katie's show at Hotel Cafe. I'd never heard of her, but why not? If I didn't like him, I could lose [...]

Originally born to a musical family in California, Katie has also called Colorado as well as Nashville home. From her early beginnings on backup vocals and drums in the band "Newcomers Home", Herzig initially suffered from stage fright and confined herself to those instruments, slowly opening up to playing guitar and becoming a lead singer after her humble beginnings in the background. In 2006 her band broke up and she pursued a solo career which had started with her first album "Watch Them Fall" in 2004. Her most recent release came out in 2008, a new [...]
