It's everybody's favorite time of the week - new music Tuesday! This week, we have two Sub Pop artists duking it out for attention: The Dum Dum Girls hail from California and according to Wikipedia, each have "Dum Dum" tattooed on their finger (they mean business). Their counterparts are Papercuts , centered around singer/songwriter Jason Robert Quever. Their 2007 album Can't Go Bank got an 8.3 out of 10 from Pitchfork . Also this week is the newly formed Oasis minus controversial ex-frontman, Noel Gallagher. The band's new name is Beady Eye [...]
The Answering Machine just released their second album, 'Lifeline', yesterday on Heist or Hit. (You can read our review of 'Lifeline' here. ) They remixed the song 'Fragrant' for their buddies Dutch Uncles , and we're offering it up as a free download below. 'Fragrant' came out as a single last October ( review here ), with Dutch Uncles's album 'Cadenza' slated for release in early May.

The Answering Machine released their debut album, 'Another City, Another Sorry' in 2009. Now in 2011, the quartet return with their second album, 'Lifeline', on Heist or Hit Records, just like its predecessor. Make no mistake, this is one romantic record. This of course makes me wonder if the band had fought to get this out on Valentine's Day instead of today. But that's another discussion for another day... And besides, thinking that this album is nothing but a sappy, lovey dovey affair would not give it the justice it deserves. [...]
Here's the colourful promo for the Answering Machine 's upcoming single 'Lifeline' that I reviewed on Monday. What a cool looking video, and what beautiful instruments. (I'm being serious. Actual instruments. That wasn't dirty.) Have a great weekend, folks! Click here to view the embedded video.

Manchester indie rock band the Answering Machine have a new single out on Valentine's Day. Called 'Lifeline', it's the title track from their album to be released very soon. Even before I begin, my prediction is this is going to be the pining sort of love song, considering the title of the song *is*, after all, 'Lifeline'. It begins with a great bass line (serious groove) and drums, followed by atmospheric synths and guitar. The first words? "I'm better off you, alone / I'm better on my own / all [...]
Manchester's Answering Machine just released a new single, 'Animals', on Monday, and we're happy to be able to give it to you this morning. And one better, their buddies Dutch Uncles had a go with remixing the tune as well (and it's suitably maths-poppy as can be expected). Listen, download and enjoy both tracks below. (Note from fellow bass player: brill bass line, guys, totally brill.) We featured the video on TGTF earlier this month, check it out here.
Manchester's Answering Machine will be releasing a new album, 'Lifeline', soon on Heist or Hit Records. And below is the video for the single 'Animals'. Singer Martin Colclough is walking about with a life vest on a beach...and in the forest. And evil masked men wearing French sailor outfits come out of the trees and chase him. Huh? This also features the weirdest use of string in a promo video since Delphic 's 'Halcyon' . I like this song though. Let us know what [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. I went through a stage earlier in the year of loving The Answering Machine a bit too much ( here ), and sort of run out of energy. However this video re-ignited my passion for them, a perfect fit to their new single, Oklahoma, which is out on 11th August.

I've been a bit supporter of The Answering Machine lately here on TGTF . Normally not my sorta thing, this bunch of Manchester indie kids have bags of talent. Think of the Strokes. Take away their pretentiousness, and add in some Manchester style. You're halfway there. They're loud, they're raucous, but above all they have great tunes - mainstream enough to (hopefully) get radio play, edgy enough that they won't do a Scouting for Girls or Hoosiers on us. As a randomer behind me put it so eloquently when I caught [...]
Always loving a video that's a bit out of the ordinary, The Answering Machine have decided to make the new video for their single "Obviously Cold" at an ice rink, going Curling. The band celebrated Record Shop day on Saturday by compiling an online fanzine called Revolutions Per Minute on their blog . 'Obviously Cold' comes out on the 18th May 2009. It precedes their debut album, 'Another City, Another Sorry', on the 1st June, both through Heist or Hit Records. Click here to view the embedded video.
We first mentioned The Answering Machine on Snow Day (wow, seems so long ago now), and then caught them live just a few weeks later. They're pretty amazing, and now have their debut single out on Monday, 9th March. Their shiny new video features the likes of Sesame Street Characters (for the life of me I can't remember the name of the one, but I'm sure one of you geniuses will be able to remind me in the comments!) Cliffer is a pretty great song - it's got [...]

Anyone not in the know might have thought tonight was a joint headlining show. Such was the strength of main support, Manchester's The Answering Machine . We could use many phrases to describe them, however we'll nick one from a guy stood behind us to his mate: "They're like the Strokes if they'd been to Art School and didn't have money, together with Franz Ferdinand if they'd bunked off Art School or if they'd not spent years poncing around". Couldn't have put it better myself. Angular, fast paced and smartly dressed at first [...]

A friend introduced me to The Answering Machine a couple of days ago. His way of selling it to me wasn't great, but when I checked them out I realised he actually was telling the truth - they're pretty good. Then I found the picture at the top of this post, and decided that any guitar band that can get out glitter and sport the nerd-chic glasses that bassist Gemma is wearing is ace in my books. The Manchester-based four-piece have spent much of 2008 holed-up in North Yorkshire working on their debut album [...]
