Blake's second album, Overgrown , was released a month ago and he's touring the states with his band in support of it. Check out scenes from last night's show in the photo gallery above.
After playing a smokin' set at World Cafe Live upstairs on Election Night, bluesy singer ZZ Ward is returning to Philadelphia on March 6 with WXPN favorites Delta Rae - who were also in town recently, recording a special producer's session for World Cafe and appearing on the air with Helen Leicht. Tickets are on ... Continue reading
Always good to see #NiceThings happen to good people. Philly rapper Chill Moody, for a few weeks now, has been talking up "big news" and "dreams comes true" that he was getting ready to share with the Twitter and Instagram universes (to the point where dude was making announcements of announcements of announcements). This afternoon ... Continue reading

As anyone from Seattle will tell you, Macklemore is the hottest artist in the city right now. A white rapper mixing intelligent lyrics with smooth, instrumental beats from talented producer Ryan Lewis, Macklemore made his presence felt three years ago at Bumbershoot. This musical festival, held in Seattle every Labor Day weekend, established the artist as a significant rapper known all over the city. Since that concert, his profile has only increased yearly. Releasing his latest album The Heist  on October 9th, Macklemore has embarked on a worldwide tour to promote his music. [...]
Last night, mewithoutYou wrapped up its summer show with a homecoming show at The TLA featuring openers Kevin Devine and Buried Beds. Check out a photo gallery of the show above. Continue reading

Photo by Eric Ashleigh For this monthâs Key Studio Video Session, we profiled mewithoutYou , the Upper Darby-bred experimental five-piece that bridges the divide between raw, introspective punk rock and lush, Neutral Milk Hotel-esque indie symphonies. This year, they celebrated ten years as a band, and in the spring they plan to release their as-yet untitled fifth album, recorded over the summer with Daniel Smith of Danielson - it's their first since 20092s It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All A Dream! It's Allright . In our session, the bandmates reflect [...]

Blitzen Trapper could have easily fallen prey to the typical rags-to-riches, cool-to-crazy Cinderella story. Though eight years have passed since lead singer Eric Earley ate hotplates in his sleeping bag and recorded songs under the caved-in ceiling of an abandoned warehouse, the Portland-based sextet has continued to create music evocative of the humble struggles associated with American living, combining the grandeur of classic hard rock with the simplicityâand sincerityâof folk songs. Going from homelessness to being mentioned in the pages of major music magazines is a notorious trigger for many musiciansâ meltdowns; Earley, however, managed to turn it into the [...]

Itâs appropriate that the indie/electro-rock duo Phantogram shares a name with an optical illusion. While theirs is more in the audible sense, listening to the Syracuse, NY-based twosome is often an enjoyable trip. It takes place in songs such as âAs Far As I Can See,â as vocalist Sarah Barthel sweetly floats through verses layered over glitchy psych beats intricately mixed with samples of her own voice. Other songs from 2010âs Eyelid Movies stand in complimentary contrast, including âYou Are The Ocean,â which finds Josh Carter taking lead vocals in a slower and more low-key (yet [...]

Prior to seeing The Raveonettes perform at the TLA, my only experience with the band was through Rock Band 3, which included the song Last Dance, from their 2009 release In and Out of Control. Popping the game in a few hours before the concert to prep my ears gave me a cute, xylophone backed, echo heavy tune which led me to believe I was in for a lighthearted evening. I was not. The band, consisting of Sharin Foo and the pleasingly androgynous Sune Rose Wagner opened their set with a warning that these were [...]

On Tuesday night I went to see Crystal Castles play at Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia. I got there in the middle of opener Teengirl Fantasyâs set, who did a pretty good job of mixing their recorded stuff into an improvised live performance (I couldnât really tell their singerâs voice apart from the computer noises though). As soon as they finished everyone rushed closer to the stage, trying to secure the best view possible for the nightâs headliner. After waiting for what seemed like an hour (some guys who were clearly rolling started chanting âassholesâ), a CC roadie came [...]

We've mentioned tonight's show featuring the indie super-group Middle Brother a couple of times already , so we're pretty sure it's obvious that we're excited about it. So let's just skip to the chase, shall we? The bandâwhich features Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes , John McCauley of Deer Tick , and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit âis on tour in support of its recently released self-titled debut on Partisan Records . And, if seeing an [...]

Look at that fucking nerd. Not Rivers Cuomo...I mean me. (DC, 2000) In the summer of 2000, as a fresh-faced seventeen-year-old, I took a job in New York City at a medical office. Four or five days a week for two months I was commuting to Chelsea, exploring Lower Manhattan on my lunch breaks, and generally feeling like a real adult. I was also a huge fucking nerd when I was in high school. My youthful Brit-Pop phase transitioned quite nicely into an American "geek rock" phase, where bands like Weezer, Nerf Herder, Nada [...]

Touring in support of their latest release Entertainment , Fischerspooner returned May 6 to Philadelphia for the first time since 2005. âThis is our first tour in the U.S. in five years,â Casey Spooner, songwriter and vocals, said to the crowd. âIt's been really a long road getting back hereâ he continued, and went on to add that the Theatre of the Living Arts (TLA) show kicked off the bandâs North American tour. The evening featured Fischerspoonerâs best attributeâexperimentation with "everything." Right from the opening, the band showed off its penchant [...]
