Today we're taking a bit of a departure from the typical straight-dubstep tunes regularly featured here. While all of these tunes definitely exude elements common in dubstep, we're venturing a bit into nearby territory like dancehall, reggae, rap, and classic rock. Not that rap and classic rock have much to do with dubstep, but, you know, f*** it. Take a listen and lemme know what you think on Twitter: >>> @Crimestein Peas and dub. I've struggled for about a year now over what to do with T-Sides. I started T-Sides at a time when music writing and journalism were changing. Not to say that they aren't still changing, or aren't always changing, but my decade or so pursuing a journalism career has been stretched across a serious shift in journalism. We probably should've expected the internet to be a bigger game changer, but I clearly wasn't the only one who just kind of didn't consider it. When I studied up for my BA in Print Journalism, that first word says it all [...]
After announcing her upcoming foray into music back in November, Kim Kardashian is finally prepared to unleash the fruits of her labor upon the world. Earlier this morning, the professional Nicole Scherzinger lookalike visited On Air with Ryan Seacrest to premiere her debut single, "Jam," produced by Ciara collaborator, The-Dream . According to Ryan Seacrest's official site , what had happened was Ciara was all like "The-Dream wants your number," and then Kim was all like "Please, I'm sure he does," and then Ciara [...]
Arguably one of music's greatest eras, the 502s and 602s changed the face of music forever. Without people ranging from Elvis Presley to Little Richard , Bob Dylan to The Beatles , we probably wouldn't be listening to some of the bands and music we take for granted today. One man who grew up obsessed by the pop culture of this era was Hanni El Khatib. The son of Palestinian and Filipino immigrants (and the first American in his family), Hanni El Khatib grew up in San Francisco and was influenced by these kinds [...]
Filed under: News , Awards , Television Three weeks after Sir Paul McCartney 's career was celebrated by some of rock's biggest names, those of us outside the event got to see what all the fuss was about when it aired on CBS Television in the U.S. last night. Last night, in between having to make some time w/visiting relatives, I caught most of the PBS premiere of "LENNONYC" the new John Lennon documentary. It's a candid look at the former Beatle trying to make his way in New York City in the late 60s and early 70s as a peace activist and musician with empathies to the Hippie-Yippie movement, and his struggles to be just 'a normal guy.' The documentary has great 'bootleg' studio banter mixed in with images and talking heads from the times and current day as well. It chronicles Lennon's anti-war [...]

Pt. Ravi Shankar Film Re-Released
In 1971, George Harrison and Apple Films released Raga: A Film Journey Into The Soul Of India . Directed by Howard Worth and produced by Pandit Ravi Shankar, the film documents the life of the sitar maestro in the late '60s and early '70s. Narrated by Shankar himself, the film is a chronicle of his musical journey: a visit with guru and famed Bengali multi-instrumentalist Ustad Allauddin Khan, his travels across Europe and the United States, and his collaborations with Yehudi Menuhin and more famously, George Harrison. Raga was re-released last year on the [...]

Beatles for Sale: iTunes Begins Selling the Fab Four's Back Catalogue
So the biggest news of the digital music world this week has to be the announcement by Apple's iTunes that they had finally reached an agreement with the Beatles ' Apple Corps so that the Fabs' albums could be sold by the online music retailer. But what does it all mean? It means anyone with purchasing power can now obtain - legally - any of the Beatles's official releases. Strangely, according to this Australian article , the price of albums varies by country. Doesn't seem fair, does it? [...]

20 Great Rock Codas: All's Well That Ends Well
Filed under: The Hit List By definition, a coda, or end piece, concludes a song with an idea that does not repeat an earlier one. A good coda can complement or create contrast; it can be subtle or overt; it can build gradually or start abruptly. And, let's face it, sometimes the end is the best part of the song. Here are 20 of rock's best [...]
