Album Review: The Boxer Rebellion – The Cold Still

Album Review: The Boxer Rebellion – The Cold Still The last 2 years have been pretty excellent ones for London-based Boxer Rebellion : in 2009, their second album, 'Union', hit #1 on the iTunes UK albums chart and was named Best Alternative Album by iTunes; in 2010, their song 'Spitting Fire' appeared in the feature film Going the Distance and the band starred briefly in the film as well. Next week, they release into the wild their third album, 'The Cold Still'. The album was produced and mixed by Ethan Johns, who has famously worked with the likes of Kings of Leon [...]

Interview: The Boxer Rebellion

Interview by Kevin Angel Like all great things the Boxer Rebellion started out with sadness, after the death of frontman Nathan Nicholson's mum in 2000, he upped from his Tennessee home and moved to the bright lights of the big smoke some call London. After meeting fellow members Todd Howe and Piers Hewitt, and following several incarnations, the band we know and love as the Boxer Rebellion was formed. Despite their success, the band have suffered multiple setbacks that doubtless played a massive part in ensuring that they aren't (yet) [...]

9 Great Albums of 2009

9 Great Albums of 2009 So, the curtain has near closed on 2009. It's snowing, Rage Against the Machine are number one and Simon Cowell is left weeping in a corner – alas, all is generally well this December. Now time to look back over the past year and pick out some of our favourite albums of 2009. Arctic Monkeys – Humbug Arctic Monkeys returned this 2009 with a whole new sound to their name. Produced by the demigod that is Josh Homme, Humbug showcased a darker, more sinister [...]

Video of the Moment #129: The Boxer Rebellion

Click here to view the embedded video. The Boxer Rebellion - 'Flashing Red Light Means Go' (Radio Edit) Quite possibly one of the nicest bands we've discovered this year is The Boxer Rebellion . This is their new single, Flashing Red Light Means Go, which has an amazing apolyptic feel to it, which is only amplified by the amazing video. Futuristic, optomistic and modern whilst faded and tired, it was created digitally, frame-by-frame, over an incredibly busy 4 [...]

Interview: The Boxer Rebellion

Interview: The Boxer Rebellion Here at TGTF we LOVE Boxer Rebellion . Their new album, Union, is frankly amazing - see Jess' review here . We were fortunate enough to have everything we've ever wondered about Boxer Rebellion answered by their drummer, Piers Hewitt. Hello. What are you up to today? I am recovering my football related drinking from the weekend by being put through some seriously hard paces at the gym, and in turn flopping out on the sofa with the doors open. I can't envisage much will be achieved today in all honesty. [...]

Album Review: The Boxer Rebellion – Union

Album Review: The Boxer Rebellion – Union The Boxer Rebellion took a risk in January. Shunning big-wig record labels, the band decided to go alone, releasing their second studio album, 'Union', exclusively via iTunes download. Thankfully, the risk paid off. In fact, The Boxer Rebellion proceeded to make press headlines for the next few days. 'Union' had somehow brilliantly managed to reach number 1 in the iTunes US Alternative Chart, and was speedily outselling the likes of Kings of Leon and Coldplay. Next month, the band shall be taking their second risk. They've just struck a deal with HMV, who, from September 14th onwards, [...]

Boxer Rebellion / September and October 2009 UK and Ireland Tour

The Boxer Rebellion have announced a string of tour dates for September and October 2009. This tour follows the release of their album Union on 14th September, which in a "revolutionary" move sees the band rejecting record label involvement and partnering directly with retailer HMV to fund the release. The album is already available on iTunes and Amazon etc. Tickets are on sale now, priced £9 plus booking fee (£10 in London). They are exclusively available from hmv.com, where they are also available as part of an album bundle for just £15 including booking fee. [...]

Daily Roundup - Friday 16th January 2009

Daily Roundup - Friday 16th January 2009 We've had quite a busy week here at TGTF, lining up some great things we'll be covering later this year. In the mean time whilst I've been all busy and stuff, it seems it's all been kicking off in the music industry. First up, The Boxer Rebellion (one of those band names you know, but can't pop your finger on any of their tunes, and pictured top) have suprisingly had their second album spring high up the iTunes chart, catching everyone by suprise it seems. Having been signed by Alan [...]
