Waze & Odyssey are part of a new wave of emerging UK producers who are helping to keep the UK house scene on its toes. After their first release in early 2012, "Ah Baby (Here We Go Again)" they've released a whole load of remixes, originals, and bootlegs, ranging from raw, urban garage tracks through to epic '90s-influenced house anthems. They originally created a fake background story about being US garage veterans raised on a diet of funk & soul in Miami, but then they came clean that they were just having a laugh with that story and are actually [...]
More esoteric, yet, playful electronica from London duo Helium Robots - this time it's a remix of their new track 'Lacrimosa'. It's remixed by Brassica who gives the original a shuffling 4/4 beat, tribal rhythms and plenty of clever bleeepy synth work. Lacrimosa is out now and the debut album Voltopia is out June 11th (available on iTunes from 28th May) through This Is Music.

More Music are gonna kill it again with their latest release from Baunz. (Can't believe they've notched up 13 already?!?!) We reckon its got some serious hints of Maya Jane Coles on the title track... That might just be extremely lay of us to make that comparison though. The vocal is a bit cheesy but everything else melodically is really nice.
It's Indian Summer in Boston. The air is that perfect medium blend of crisp but warm and long shadows are being cast over everything by the late afternoon sun. It couldn't be more quaint, so naturally, I am most drawn to music that drags me to the dark depths of hell. Egyptrixx is bipolar bass music that manages to feel both pulled together and dissonant, both club-worthy and entirely antisocial. The two demonic tracks below are off his upcoming limited-edition vinyl-only 123, Old Black , out November 28 on LESS Music . His debut LP, Bible [...]

This is arguably the biggest release for This Is Music in their relatively short but successful career. Toby Tobias is sometimes a bit hit and miss for me but it seems as though he is hitting his stride for the year with this release. However it's not just the original track worth mentioning here. The remix package is absolutely stellar (and huge), featuring legends like Bicep, Lee Foss and Zoo Look. As well as the Narrow Road remix from Toby himself. The record drops 3rd October and it's totally worth getting around. The Bicep remix is [...]

Big congrats to the This Is Music crew as they reach their 10th release under the More Music imprint... Seen some truly stunning releases from these guys and this tenth instalment is no different. This release sees Toby Tobias dropping his Tomorrow's Bringing track along with remixes from Lee Foss, Bicep and Zoo Look. Vinyl is up for grabs on 3rd October.

A bunch of tasty remixes feature on Toby Tobias´s forthcoming EP release ( More Music ). This alternative simplies the clubdisco original with warm chords, off beat hats and echo vocals. Toby Tobias - Tomorrow´s Bringing (Toby Tobias Narrow Road Mix)

Plant Plants are East London based chums, Stuart Francis and Howard Whatley. Born from a love of weird guitar tunings, heavy beats and hip-hop, theirs is a sound which effortlessly combines electronica and eclectic imagery, leading to recent comparisons with the likes of Foals and Battles. Citing influences as varied as the Wickerman soundtrack, Wu Tang - the 36 chambers era and L.A. based producer Baths, it’s no surprise that their oddball melodic music, is causing waves amongst the blogosphere. I caught up with them before their recent show at the Notting Hill Arts Club. Hi guys so [...]
Following our recent lo-fi love in with the likes of The History of Apple Pie and Bleeding Knees Club, we've returned to the other side of things

Plants Plants are a mix of electronic soundscapes and synth pop vocals that are getting quite a few people excited. Produced by Jas Shaw, one half of Simian Mobile Disco, they are friends Stuart Francis and Howard Whatley. They've been together just a year or so honing their sound and have just put out a self-titled four track EP. To start, the whole EP, except the percussion-less 'Dandelion', is filled with some of the smoothest beats and warmest synth work I've heard this year. It needs to be though as it's a downtempo ride - in the [...]

As a rule, I'm firmly on the side of bands who ride roughshod over 'cool', and all of the associated horrors that accompany such a label. One of the primary dangers of being cool - or worse, aiming to be cool - is that your posturing ages with a rapidity that spins the mind. Plants Plants seem to have found a wry median point to occupy: their music is part polyrhythmic laptop-jitter and part synth-heavy, spoken-word epic pop. In combining these two disparate elements - the nowness of the former and the faintly [...]

For those of you who missed this week's podcast (and if you did, then shame on you indeed) then you will know that Mrs. Toad and I went down to London for the weekend to visit some old school friends. It was a little odd. The couples with kids asked the married couples about marriage and the couples who were married asked the ones with kids about kids, but none of the couples who were married were the ones with the kids. If only any of our gay pals had been there we'd probably have been able to [...]

In attempts to feed the marrow of what really moves me musically, I've decided to let the content of my posts wander in the warmer streets of LA. I have taken a genuine interest in their sunnier philosophies of song structures and distinguished clearer perspectives in terms of what it is exactly that inspires them. This whole process of the mind being stimulated through sounds seems to rest quietly on an as-long-as-we're-together type of escapism, which is more or less a mentality your LA-based duo, Kisses , seems to approach with remarkable consideration. Why not indulge? Their [...]

Well I know I normally let Dylan sort out the Sunday Supplements, and I cheated last week by writing one myself, but I am going to have to do it again, sorry. The reason is simply that there is a lot of label news happening at the moment, and I really don't want to overwhelm the blog with label chat if I can avoid it. I am sure lots of you come here for reasons other than me trying to sell you things to pay for that yacht in the Caribbean we record labels generally aim for. [...]
