Islands is the pet project of Nick Thorburn-formerly of the Unicorns-and Anti- has seen fit to put up a stream of the band's new album, which is set to berelease today! If you have listened to the songs they have released thus far from the album “This is not a song” and “Hallways” you should have fairly good indication of what you’re in store for here. There is a real catchy friendliness to the tracks here, which is largely due to the slower nature of them. It is definitely a light avant-pop album, but there isn’t anything inherently wrong with that.

For some reason even though the band has existed since 2005, I haven't heard of them until now but I must check out their entire catalogue. Nick Thorburn is trying to trick you; this is totally a song, a pretty good song at that. Islands is the project of the aforementioned Nick Thorburn (Mister Heavenly, The Unicorns) and this song is coming from the forthcoming album A Sleep and A Forgetting , which is slated for a Valentine's Day release. The song is pretty slow and smooth with a nice dream-like quality about it. Thorburn's delivery fits perfectly with the sugary pop lyrics accompanied by a humming synth and building strings in the background. Expect this album on Anti- Records.

I'm pretty much comatose after this. Starts off sounding a little like John Mayer's "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" without the guitar (oxymoron?), then the lead singer comes in and just knocks me out. Haymaker directly to the dome.
