Another official video from Unknown Mortal Orchestra to remind us that psychedelic pop can be fulfilling and joyous in its simplest form and that the trio is still working the shit out of their fantastic debut album. Out of the four clips they’ve produced over the year, “Little Blu House” is bar far the sexiest and most surreal — fits their music perfectly if you ask me — but “Thought Ballune” is the most story-like. Jordan Blady directs this literal interpretation that includes odd-looking people and cupcakes.

Surprisingly it was only about six months ago when I saw UMO play for about 40 people during an early set at the Kompakt/Passion of the Weiss show here at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Oh wait, I've already done that rant.  Yeah, it's not that I slept on Unknown Mortal Orchestra as much as I slept on picking up their excellent 73 EP that is not only now out of print but has been taken down from their Bandcamp page.  Awww....boooo......no fair, but wait, don't despair! This is what happens when you spend 30-40 minutes catching up with friends and musicians out on the patio at the Echo: I completely missed Unknown Moral Orchestra , who I had very little info about to begin with. UMO's creator Ruban Nielson describes his music as, "Captain Beefheart, Sly Stone and RZA jamming on a creepy, never-released kid’s show." That sounds about right. Download "Thought Ballune" below.
