When I was young, I admired my musical heroes, naturally. I thought it was because of their ability to hit a drum, strum a chord, or play the fastest bass line, or in short - their technique. Over the years I've realized, that the musicians I kept on admiring, after my wonder years were gone, were [...]
Never ceasing to amaze and fascinate, Kutiman (whose groundbreaking Thru-You video album was chosen by Time Magazine as One of the 50 Best Inventions of 2009 ) has returned with another video in the vein of the Thru-You series. Digging on an even deeper level, he returns to form with this new song entitled "My Favorite Color". This bit of smoothed-out jazz is in a class of its own, furthering the mystique that Kutiman has helped to generate in a class of his own. Kutiman - My Favorite Color

If you take a look at the recently-published list of Time Magazine's "50 Best Inventions of 20093 , you will find many technologically significant inventions - NASA's missles, a racing car made entirely out of food, and even a human-powered vending machine. Among these inventions, a surprising (and deserved) addition has appeared: the YouTube remix projects of Israeli musician & composer Kutiman as seen in his prodigious website, ThruYOU . ThruYOU, completed in just two months time, is a sweeping work of musical "found [...]

( Editor's note: this originally appeared on Loudersoft on 4 March 2009. I've updated the post to include MP3's of the tracks so that, hopefully, it will pull people from MP3 search engines to discover Kutiman and his site. It's definitely my favorite website of 2009 and, without a doubt, one of my favorite experiences of the past decade.) Perennial Loudersoft favorite (and Israeli soul brother extraordinaire) Kutiman has changed the game up inna massive style with http://thru-you.com - wherein he takes pieces of videos from [...]

(images via WC ) Zimbabwe's economy is in dire straits and a local newspaper is making their displeasure known, wallpapering billboards and walls with their devalued currency and using it as advertising for their website. Good evening, everybody. A mildly belated Culture Club for y'all today, coming from my house, which, after a LONG delay, has internet. After an hour of chilling on wifi, I'm not sure how I made it this long. Let's get to it. The internet has taken April Fool's Day to a [...]
Filed under: Around the World The road to the global village runs through you. Well, ThruYou . The latest YouTube phenomenon, ThruYou is the work of Kutiman , an Israeli musician and producer who's been putting out his own sample-driven music, which he describes as "funk/Afrobeat/psychedelic." For this project, though, he's been diligently combing cyberspace for homemade music projects, grouping together ones that seem to have some compatible or complementary elements and then layering/cutting them into amalgam "songs." It's the Net equivalent, perhaps, of finding that [...]

Ophir Kutiel, a.k.a. Kutiman, released seven videos by mixing and matching found footage on the web to create his own music project entitled ThruYou . The result is beyond belief. The videos Kutiman used to create ThruYou are mostly low-budget recordings of amateur musicians playing at home or taking music lessons. Kutiman cut the performances together so that the musicians appear to be playing together in real time - with truly astonishing results. I lost track of night and day. I'd just pass out and wake up on the computer. I was [...]

Obrigatório!: http://thru-you.com Posted in [...]
Finally, a worthwhile remix of YouTube footage that doesn't involve stupid Nintendo cartoons.
by reggie Like The Avalanches or Girl Talk , Kutiman makes something whole out of parts, something that transcends its source material to offer a new artistic expression. What makes this different is the medium, which in turn changes the message. Girl Talk or The Avalanches sample bits and pieces of popular music, creating a sort of spot-the-sample game that comments on our fascination with popular culture commercial music. When Kutiman samples, say, a mother with a [...]

Kutiman's website ThruYOU where he has cut and spliced YouTube music videos to make brand new tracks is quite simply a work of art, as well as a superb display of music magistracy. Over 1 million people have already visited the site. Go check it out if you haven't already been. You wont be disappointed. Kutiman was kind enough to explain exactly what the ethos of the project is on video. You can see that below. SEE: Kutiman explains the ThruYOU project:

Perennial Loudersoft favorite (and Israeli soul brother extraordinaire) Kutiman has changed the game up inna massive style with http://thru-you.com - wherein he takes pieces of videos from YouTube and remixes them. He completely re-arranges them to make new songs, much like the late great J. Dilla was known to do, except (unlike other Dilla copy-catters) Kutiman's ingenious idea to use YouTube footage is solidly game-changing. Others may have attempted something like this, but I certainly haven't seen it done with this depth or this well. Get there and [...]
