I recently drove a 1,464 mile round-trip to Salt Lake City. My beagle copilot still hasn't mastered the art of conversation, so I loaded my iPod with a bunch of new music. I found myself listening [...]

Is there anything better than some male/female overlapping vocals? I mean, really. It works for The xx, and it definitely works for Big Deal, coincidentally also UK natives. However, Big Deal is less dark electro pop [...]

Click image to download track Sounds like: Summer Camp, Camera Obscura, Tilly and the Wall, Hot Club de Paris "Slow Club - Two Cousins" What's so good? Slow Club released "Two Cousins" in mid June, and I've been seeing buzz for the duo build on the Internets since then. That's not to say they're a brand-spanking-new production - Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor have supported [...]

Icky Blossoms // "Perfect Vision" Did you even find something so exciting and stimulating that you find yourself snickering quietly as you fawn over it? Something that is so great that the impulse to keep it to yourself is tied with the impulse to share it with everyone and anyone you come in contact with? Yeah, well I just had one of those. I don't know if it's the medication that I'm on that's got me all buzzed or if this track is as stellar as I am dreaming it up to be. Either way I [...]

Sometimes its TGIF, and other times it's thank fucking god. It's finally Friday, the respite from whatever hell we've dealt with since Monday. Chris, our by request requester this week, is totally fed up with his week, so here is to Friday: the time when we get take off the work clothes, put on our party pants, and have a fucking drink. This one goes out to my beautiful wife and the last seven wonderful years we've spent together. I can only wish for a million more. Hope you all have a good one, and don't worry this can be enjoyed with or without a loved one in company. As usual, I've bundled all the tracks in a convenient zip file or you can grab the tracks you want individually below. Thanks for reading, I love you all. Filed under: New Music , Exclusive The words of music and art aren't strange bedfellows by any means. After the Vivian Girls and Tilly and the Wall paid homage to Henry Darger and Pixies frontman Black Francis wrote an album about Herman Brood, New York trio Dream Diary penned a tune about Russian artist El Lissitzky. The mellow-yet-upbeat song is off the band's forthcoming debut LP, 'You Are the Beat,' and their [...]

My lovely cousin reminded me of these guys recently and since then they have been a regular feature on my iPod. Tilly and the Wall are an indie-pop band from Nebraska who are particularly identifiable for their percussion sound, which comes from a tap dancing bandmember as opposed to a drum kit. The band- consisting of husband and wife Derek and Jamie Pressnall , Neely Jenkins , Nick White and Kianna Alarid - came together in 2001 and have since released three full-length studio albums. You may [...]

Yo yo, we've gotten not one, but two requests to fulfill your Halloween dreams. You won't have to be scared about this mix disappointing with bits of spooky, a-tonal, and straight-up darkly danceable tunes. So put on your leather bustier, or your lingerie and kitten ears or whatever other scantily clad outfit you find yourself in this spooky weekend (that includes you, boys) and pretend to be whatever you like as you listen to these tunes for Kelly and Morgan, who are both throwing Halloween parties this week. Enjoy. "Timber Timbre - Lay Down [...]

Photography by Us ... Happy Friday to you, once again, my dear friends! Got a special little treat for ya today. The other day, I was bored with ye ol' iPod and was looking around for something different. Suddenly remembered that in my drawer behind me at my desk there's a stack of old case-less CDs I've used as dust collectors over the years. Thumbing through, found some fun little albums that I used to - and in some cases still do - listen to, but one (well actually three) CDs [...]
Of Montreal's tenth album is their most accessible yet, offering a meshing of cohesiveness and ambition that coincides with the band's idiosyncratic sound. Kevin Barnes' lyrical variation of humor and serious infliction aid an album that is emotionally demanding, humorously witty, and melodically superb. With help from Jon Brion, it is their best produced and most organic-sounding effort yet.

Photography by Me ! What is twee? Since the beginning of the dawn of man, this question seems to exist at the very core of our being... I asked the Super Desserts during my interview , and the standard mentions of cutesy music and not-so-cutesy lyrics came up, but really what is cutesy? Is THIS twee? What about this? *shrug* But really, this is really not about "twee", [...]

It's time for another edition of Commercial Watch, where I highlight the songs that play during those annoying parts that you never watch in between LOST and The Daily Show. Click the links to watch the commercials / download the MP3s. Apple: What is iPad? The first iPad commercial was soundtracked by Danish indie rock band The Blue Van, this one by another slightly more well-known indie rockers, Yeah Yeahs Yeahs. If you thought Apple was going to stop using indie music now that it's surpassed Microsoft as the #1 [...]

Ever wish Tilly and the Wall were just a boy and a girl from Sheffield, England? No? Weird. Slow Club are just that and it's great. The duo's debut, Yeah So , is finally getting a U.S. release at the end of this month (March 30, to be exact), and we're kind of hoping they blow up like a bomb in The Hurt Locker (OSCAR REFERENCE, YO). Check out the awesomely cute video for "It Doesn't Have To Be Beautiful" above.

I've definitely been allured by some real freaks in recent times. Rough Trade recently made The Strange Boys' most recent creation their Album of the week. A creation called 'Be Brave'. There's just something so friendly about this band. The wailing lead vocalist accompanied by his wailing band make quite a jolly mixture. When I listen to this particular track, I have to refrain from jumping up, waving my hands in the air and shrieking "YOU HAVE TO BE BRAVE!!" with a large smile on my face. All the happy wailing and half-shouts combine to [...]
Filed under: News , New Music As reported last week , keyboardist Franz Nicolay quit anthemic party rock band the Hold Steady for a fresh start. It's now been revealed to Paste just exactly what that fresh start will be: exploring vaudeville aspirations and tap dancing. "In the Hold Steady, I was kind of a fox in a hedgehog band, the Isaiah Berlin thing about the hedgehogs who have one defining idea and the foxes who have a lot of [...]
I'm surprised that months after 500 Days of Summer , Zooey Deschanel is alive and kicking on my radar. Volume One of She & Him (her duo with M. Ward) was one of my top albums of 2008 and still occasionally finds playing time on my iPhone. Thankfully, the new album is about two months away from release (ONLY TWO MONTHS!), and they have given us a glimpse of what the album is to be with In the Sun . It retains the same relaxed, folk-pop sound that caught our attention more than a year ago. [...]

Finally! What a nice surprise to get up this morning and find a much anticipated new track from super duo She & Him . This new track "In the Sun" will appear on the sophomore LP Volume Two which is due out March 23rd on Merge . The new track also features some guest vocals from Tilly & The Wall . Nice.
