MP3: PERSONA LA AVE - A SLEEPLESS LIFE MP3: Neuport - JUKEo F FLOVE ((CLOSE TO U) Neuport FWerk) Been relishing some seriously chilly vibes as a counterpoint to sweltering Auckland summer with the Aural Sects crew's massive statement of hashtag-oriented purpose, the #icepunk compilation. 62 tracks, featuring some of our favourite recent artists like Coyote Clean Up , Spectacles and Arrete, these are but two highlights from Neuport and Persona La Ave . Grip the whole thing at [...]

MP3: RQ Mix 003 - Police Academy 6 Police Academy 6 is one of the aliases of Murfreesboro, Tennessee based Joe Volmer (see also: Party Trash , Clearing , Virgin Spirit ..). Under this moniker he has released a self-titled album on AMDISCS , which established a trajectory lying somewhere in the interstices of tumblr, 80s video-game aesthetics, post-chillwave and nu-r&b, covering similar ground to other RQ faves and sometime collaborators of his, Top Girls and Raw Moans . His mix for [...]
Already number one on Hypem and I can only assume blowing up radio stations across the country, "Little Talks" by the Swedish group Of Monsters and Men was one of the catchier tunes released in 2011. In 2012 the band gave the single a proper video complete with fairies and a giant bull satanic creature. "Two Weeks" proves that they are not a one hit wonder. Listen below.

"I make a lot of coffee," James Murphy told NY Mag in an interview after the movie's premiere. "For my birthday, my girlfriend got me a training course with the world champion. That's what I'm going to do when I get back to London." Yet another one! Joining Wilco, David Lynch , Bonnie 'Prince' Billy , and Starfucker in the coffee business is former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy. [...]

If you are anything like me, you have to wonder how it's Monday again, where the weekend drifted off to, and how you are going to get through the next few hours. Luckily for us inspiration comes from the annoyingly adorable Chairlift . "I Belong In Your Arms," off their new album Something, is a happy song. A song that makes you feel that everything will be all right and it's as addicting as a freshly opened pack of Samoa girl scout cookies. Listen at your own peril, you might never stop. Something is also quite good [...]

Two tracks , two hits. I am very much looking forward to The Slideshow Effect . Memoryhouse have hit their stride.

We all shudder at the name, but "chillwave" is here to stay. 2011 proved a banner year for bedroom artists, and more power to them. With sites like Bancamp making it easier to publish and distribute music, these musicians can feast on wide audiences. Picking up where 2011 left off, the Ireland based MMOTHS blessed the world with "Heart." A loopy, hazy track that so quielty goes about it's business, you just might miss it if not for the gorgeous accompanying vocals supplied by Keep Shelly In Athens . MMOTHS have an EP coming out March 5th. [...]

I am always a sucker for a catchy UK based indie band. I also used to be petrified of swimming in the deep end of pools. So this song cuts me a few different ways. Luckily with some serious coaxing and the promise of a jolly rancher I got over my fear of the depths. Flotation devices played a big role in that accomplishment as well. Swim Deep , hailing from the West Midlands, seem to have just embarked on their music making journey. My favorite kind of journey. If "King City" is any kind of indication we should expect great things. [...]

All Things Go is a fellow brother music blog, albeit they pack a bit more of a punch (read: they are much larger than we can even dream). In addition to their extensive coverege of all that his hip in music, the blog's founders recently set up their own label. Bold moves that just goes to show you what one can do with some vision and a blog. Mausi is part of their label and sol. is their first single. The video (posted after the jump) should confirm that sneaking suspicion you have that this song should inspire [...]

Out officially on January 24th, Porcelain Raft's Strange Weekend is available for streaming in entirety below. Brought to you by hypem and via soundlcoud. Trust me, it's good. Start with "Put Me To Sleep".
Branches "Canção para o Luís" from SOLID MELTS on Vimeo . Total trans-national melter from Branches , the alias of Portuguese musician Pedro Rios. This video, from his new tape Ninguém É Como Tu on Solid Melts , evokes a blissfully disassociated American culture with its pizza bodybuilder imagery.

MIX: RQ Mix 002: Top Girls Top Girls is the solo project of North Carolina's Evan Adams, who in the last year or so has been putting out some of the most quietly interesting jams this side of the post-internet underground. His music evokes a decayed and muffled r&b, inflected with the legacy of singer-songwriter traditions but nonetheless steeped in the ethos of the post-noise bedroom producer. His mix for us today juxtaposes the familiar and unfamiliar, maintaining the narcotic yet wistful vibe that characterises his own productions. The [...]

Reign of Terror's proper first single. It's no "Rill Rill", and I preferred the earlier leaked "Born To Lose". Nevertheless, "The Comeback Kid" should scintillate your eardrums for Sleigh Bells new release. February 21st is getting closer...

RQ Mix 001 - Octo Octa We at Rose Quartz are very pleased to introduce our new guest mix series, where we ask musicians we admire and have been posting about to produce a mix of songs for us. For the first instalment we are honoured to have a mix of largely all new original material (!) from one of our favourite new artists of 2011, Octo Octa . Octo Octa is the alias of Brooklyn-based Michael Morrison, who came to blog-prominence last year when he released the excellent Let [...]
Now, hear me out. I'm a Falcons fan but we went down like chumps today. We didn't even kick and scream. We just rolled over. The Broncos and Tebow though…they played like men. They also beat my most hated team the Pittsburgh Steelers. So watch this mashup by DJ Porter of Skip Bayless (and various other sports and entertainment personalities) called "All He Does Is Win". In honor of Tebow Time, I'm posting this up.

MP3: Coyote Clean-Up - Blonde Aztec We've been posting about Detroit's Coyote Clean-Up fairly regularly for a while now, but even though he is so prolific everything he does is just so good. This one just showed up on soundcloud and clocking in at over 13-minutes is a chilly slice of weirdo deep house. Perfect rainy-day music, "Blonde Aztec" is also on a seriously deeep trip, evincing CCU's familiar repetitive-strains channeled through his Detroit -future-murk vision. Coyote Clean-Up's Frozen Solid 12" is out soon on [...]

MP3: Time Wharp - yrLyf New cosmic-r&b track from Atlanta/Boston producer Time Wharp . This one starts off with chiming komische arpeggios, before revealing itself as an expert r&b crooner with an R Kelly sample . Off the forthcoming BLK EP on Astro Nautico . bandcamp / label
With this new track from the $3 million man, A$AP enlists the usual suspects, such as fellow up-and-comer, Spaceghost Purrp, to deliver the usual "dark, almost horror-core, production that makes the track bang hard but also captivates hip-hop heads around the world and gets their heads bobbin' along. While his subject matter and lyrics are [...]
Wow. It's been a minute, but we're back here at B&B with a new year. To kick it off, here's a new joint from the Top Dawg all-star and member of Black Hippy (along with Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar), ScHoolboy Q. Dave Free goes in on the boards and produces a sort of melancholy [...]

A touch of nostalgia hits me when I listen to Good Old War . Back in the days of emo and angst, I used to spin Days Away records quite frequently. I am no longer in high school and Days Away no longer exist, replaced in large part by Good Old War (two of the three founders played in Days Away). The Philly based band has a new record due out in March and the first single, "Calling Me Names" was just released. If you enjoyed the band's past efforts you will find plenty to love in this track. MP3: [...]
