TIM EASTON, JOHNNY CORNDAWG, DRUNKEN PRAYER ( Mississippi Studios , 3939 N Mississippi) If you have somehow overlooked Tim Easton in the past 13-plus years of his road-weary existence, I do believe that now is the time to change that. Choosing to take up occasional residence in Joshua Tree, California—the veritable confluence of all things cosmic in this nation—Easton has channeled all possible prowess, effortlessly ruling the six-string while oscillating between unholy rabble-rouser, rasp-ridden hoodoo man, and tender balladeer. Easton's latest exports, the hollowed-out Since 1966, Vol. 1 and Beat the Band (the latter [...]

I mentioned this album briefly before a few weeks ago and posted a track that caught my attention provided by the PR folks, I've now had the opportunity to spend some time with the full album and it's certainly made a good impression, here my favourite from the album. Tim Easton and the Freelan Barons - Nobody Plays Piano in Athens, Ga Tim Easton I've been a fan of for some time and I have most of his back catalogue in one format or another, on this album he's joined by the The Freelan [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. The Malefactors of Great Wealth is the project of JP Olsen, whom Columbusites may know from his previous bands: Beetkeepers in the late '80s and Burn Barrel (basically Olsen backed by the Haynes Boys) in 1999. Olsen, who now calls Brooklyn home, put out a Malefactors EP on Old3C Records a couple months ago called Today is the Best Day of My Life . Don't overlook it. It's exceptionally strong. Tim Easton fans may also be interested to [...]
FRIENDLY FIRES(Indie Pop)You guys probably don't know this, but Thursday happens to be my favorite day of the week. This is not only because Thursday is really close to Friday, which in turn is basically Saturday, no no no... It's because every Thursday I get to bring you all tracks like these. UK band Friendly Fires has been garnering a lot of hype lately. I hear some really cool stuff on "Blue

Tim Easton & the Freelan Barons- Daily Life – Stream/Download HEREEaston's craftsmanship shines fully on BEAT THE BAND – one foot standing firmly in the history of American folk music, while the other strides deftly into lush pop harmonies and song constructions. The effect propels listeners from the melancholic soul searching of a night where Nobody Plays Piano in Athens, Georgia, to the

Still getting immersed in Tim Easton and I thank the good folks at AltCountryTab.ca for the discussion on his new albums that sparked my interest in this Californian singer-songwriter-outlaw-type. After hearing about the two new albums (one more rock n' country and one acoustic - guess which one I like more??) I started searching him out and found some great videos. Take a few minutes to watch/listen to the two promo videos for both Tim and his microphone (??)...never the less, it is quality watching and listening. Visit his website and get both new albums (signed [...]

Note from AIV : Otis approached me about this post and I thought it was a great idea and I hope to make it a reoccurring piece here on 9B. Hope you enjoy. As a traveling musician, I'm given countless CDs from people I meet on the road. I have no interest in being a music critic, but I try my best to listen to as many as I can. In the spirit of turning people on to good music, this is a list of three [...]

MP3: Daily Life Tim Easton's been representing Columbus at SXSW for many, many years. While the traveling songwriter hasn't called Columbus his permanent home in quite a while (currently he lives outside of Joshua Tree, California), we'll still happily claim him as one of our own. Those of you attending SXSW this year will have plenty of opportunities to hear material from Easton's latest record, Beat the Band , which won't hit stores and on-line retailers until March 29. The singer will [...]

While I've never written about Leeroy Stagger here on ninebullets as a solo artist, I have written about E.S.P , his side project with Tim Easton and Evan Phillips ( Whipsaws ). Admittedly, I knew very little about Mr. Stagger before he sent me a copy of Little Victories and, sadly, the album sat in my computer room for many months more than it should have before I managed to give it a listen. Leeroy has been doing this music thing for the better part of a decade now. And by better part, [...]

Remember Eastmountainsouth? They were one of the my favorite indie bands in the early aughts. Since then, one half of the duo - Peter Bradley Adams - has released a few solo albums. But his feminine counterpart seemed to disappear...until now. Kat Maslich-Bode's six-track solo debut, The Road of 6 , will be officially released by Mishara Records on January 18th and is already available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes. A lovely little collection of folk-influenced pop and country, The Road of 6 is carried by Kat's warm and substantial voice. The album features [...]

With festival season about to kick into high gear in the coming months the latest addition to the ever growing circuit comes in the way of the UK-based Truck Festival , which will come stateside for the first time in its 13-year history for their inaugural Truck America Festival . Set to take from April 30 to May 2 at The Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY; fest organizers have revealed its initial lineup which will be headlined by Mercury Rev and features the likes of White Rabbits, Hopewell, Tim Easton, The Sadies, Ida and [...]
It's a dreary Monday. I seem to be long on questions lately, short on answers, and just generally bored with the status quo. Lucinda Williams always helps though. So here are a couple of my favorite duets featuring her. One with M. Ward and one with Tim Easton...enjoy. * M Ward & Lucinda Williams - 'Oh Lonesome Me' MP3 * Tim Easton - 'Back To The Pain' MP3

I meant to do more blogging last week while I was on vacation in St. Petersburg, Florida, but the internet connection at the hotel was abysmal at best. So instead I did a lot more drinking. The above photo is from Dockside Dave's . Nothing like eating a half pound of fresh fried grouper, giant onion rings, and several beers on an outdoor patio on December 26. And then slipping into a food coma and napping on the beach. Anyhoo, here are a few more albums which I feel are [...]
Just passing along a brand new song from one of my favorite troubadours, Ohio's own Tim Easton. Enjoy.
