Trailer: On the Road w/ Tim Harrington & Jesse Hughes

Trailer: On the Road w/ Tim Harrington & Jesse Hughes When a band embarks on a tour, the world assumes that what waits for them is a truly magical experience. Filled with illicit substances across the spectrum, wild people hunting for a good time, and other debaucherous scenes too filthy to describe, being on the road is a scene hyped to literary proportions. But to a cut a path of truth, VICE and Marshall Headphones have teamed together to present On the Road , a documentary-style journey through the seedy underbelly of rock and roll shows. And a sin-tacular premise needs [...]

CHBP 2011 - Day Two

Highlights and photos from day 2 of the 2011 edition of Capitol Hill Block Party are now up over at Bumpershine . If I could boil it down to four words, it would be: TIM. HARRINGTON. GOES. OFF. Now, go and be amazed.

Les Savy Fav – Subterranean – June 25, 2011

Les Savy Fav – Subterranean – June 25, 2011 Les Savy Fav | Photo by Audrey Leon Les Savy Fav lead singer Tim Harrington is a man of the people. The manic, nomadic singer and his fantastically long microphone cord traveled to every crease and crevice of Subterranean on Saturday night, touching and being touched by fans, singing and cracking jokes. The rest of the band may have been an afterthought to the crowd, but the music that radiated through all three floors certainly wasn’t. In another life Tim Harrington [...]

Our Band Could Be Your Life Tribute @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC 5/22/11

It's ten years since Michael Azerrad first published his defining DIY '80s scene portrait Our Band Could Be Your Life , which covered an independent music culture that changed irrevocably a decade before that with the release of Nevermind . Round anniversaries make apt opportunities for retrospectives, and in the case of Our Band , this year has been a sort of meta-reflection: between a panel at SXSW, and last night's show at Bowery Ballroom, 2011 has seen a few organized moments of the present "indie" culture celebrating and reflecting on how the blueprint Michael [...]

CC and the ’90s: Part 20

CC and the ’90s: Part 20 [Here we'll look at some things you probably passed up when you were a kid because you were too busy playing Star Wars with your friend who was actually a jerk… and who threw a tantrum when you schooled him in NHL ’96. What a little bitch. There are roots in the ground that still nurture.] The Cat and the Cobra Les Savy Fav Frenchkiss, 1999 Produced by Les Savy Fav [...]

Les Savy Fav Bring Sweaty Show to Pop Montreal Loft Party

Les Savy Fav Bring Sweaty Show to Pop Montreal Loft Party Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News "We're here to wipe the English Queen's face off your coins," Les Savy Fav lead singer Tim Harrington announced at the band's Pop Montreal gig Friday night. Thanks to statements like that, it's indisputable Harrington is quite possibly one of the most wild and entertaining artists today. The glow-in-the-dark neon orange rug vest, shades and wig he paraded onstage in didn't hurt either. Playing in a roomy [...]

Les Savy Fav – Root for Ruin

Les Savy Fav – Root for Ruin Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Writing about Les Savy Fav is really difficult to do without keeping frontman Tim Harrington in mind.  It's not just his vocals, but his overall performance attitude, making each show something to remember. Root for Ruin feels a great deal like an album made perfectly for one of Tim's amazing stage shows, giving him plenty of fuel, and just enough time to breathe and drench the audience in his sweat. Out of the gate, [...]

JELLYNYC POOL PARTY W/ ANDREW WK, DMC, GUCCI MANE, & MORE

JELLYNYC POOL PARTY W/ ANDREW WK, DMC, GUCCI MANE, & MORE Our new photographer, Sam Rock, took the trip to Williamsburg for an epic Pool Party show that included DMC , Andrew W.K. , Tim Harrington , Doug E. Fresh , Gucci Mane , Delorean , and more.  Which are your favorite shots?

Tim Harrington (of Les Savy Fav) joined DMC, Andrew W.K., and Snakes Say Hisss at the JellyNYC Pool Parties earlier today

Tim Harrington (of Les Savy Fav) joined DMC, Andrew W.K., and Snakes Say Hisss at the JellyNYC Pool Parties earlier today DMC, Andrew W.K., Snakes Say Hisss, and Tim Harrington | JellyNYC's Pool Parties | August 29, 2010 This performance is the kind of thing that legends are made of. DMC was a great enough surprise guest, but then he brought out Andrew W.K. and Snakes Say Hisss and things got interesting. However, when Andrew and DMC brought out their "secret weapon," that's when things took an even more amazing turn. Tim Harrington (of Les Savy Fav fame) came out to perform "Walk This Way" with [...]

There’s something funny about Pitchfork Music Festival 2010

Michael Showalter - NY Times Stella Review Response
Possibly the most exciting thing about the evening of Friday, July 16, at the Pitchfork Music Festival (no offense, Modest Mouse) is the addition of a comedy stage emceed by Les Savy Fav ’s Tim Harrington. As any of you that caught their show at the Epiphany Church last year know, Harrington is a riveting act unto himself—he began last year’s show in a clerical collar, and ended it at the back of the church in his underwear, wishing “peace be with you” to each audience member as they left. Needless to say, Pitchfork [...]

Pitchfork Festival adds Comedy Stage, Saturday tickets gone

Joining the ranks of Bonnaroo and Sasquatch , Pitchfork Music Festival looks for laughs this year with the addition of a one-day Comedy Stage that will take place on the secluded B, and/or Balance stage, on the festival's opening Friday, July 16. According to Pitchfork.com , the Comedy Stage will be hosted by Les Savy Fav frontman Tim Harrington (Unfortunately, it appears the rest of the band will be absent. Sadface) and feature stand up funny man Eugene Mirman, everyone's favorite ex-Stella-Michael Michael Showalter, the Daily Show's Wyatt Cenac and [...]

Fun Fest Interviews: Les Savy Fav

Our Fun Fest interviews are nearing an end this week but not before an interview with hard rockers Les Savy Fav.  Before the festival, we had the opportunity to catch up with founding member Syd Butler to talk to him about his band and his record label French Kiss Records.  We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.  Follow the jump for full interview. ATH : Do you ever feel like the showmanship of Tim (Harrington) takes away from the audience actually paying attention to the music?  If [...]

FFFFest Spotlight: Les Savy Fav

As we look forward to the debauchery that will be Fun Fun Fun Fest , there can be only one band that will bring the best time to all those in attendance: Les Savy Fav .  Forget the fact that they bring their own spin of angular punk and indie grit to the sound board, and just focus on the fact that they have one of the single most entertaining frontmen of all time.  Tim Harrington will bring his sweaty bald head and parade around the stage, and the crowd, like nothing else anyone has ever seen.  You [...]

ACL Interviews: The Dodos

Our ACL coverage continues the week after ACL with an interview with up and coming buzz band The Dodos.  We were big fans of their set during the weekend, so we were excited to have some time to speak with Logan Kroeber before their show.  Follow the jump to read full interview with The Dodos. ATH: Was adding a third a way to progress your sound as a band or was it necessary to have a tie-breaking vote on where to eat and what to [...]

Tim Harrington's dance party

Tim Harrington's dance party Technically, Tim Harrington from Les Savy Fav is a pretty shitty DJ. He doesn't beatmatch, he lets the music stop to explain why he picked his selections, and it just sort of breaks the rules of DJing. However, maybe that's why it's so much fun. We caught the Les Savy Fav lead singer spin some discs during the Adult Swim party where The Chinese Stars played last week. Perhaps the best part of the set was where he grabbed some folks from the audience, dressed them up in costumes, and made them do an interpretive dance to Sinead [...]
