"I too lived - Brooklyn, of ample hills, was mine." - Walt Whitman, "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" By this point, it's an old story that Manhattan has lost much of its cultural capital to its neighbor across the East River. Nowadays, if you want cutting edge art, if you want to find clusters of musicians meeting at bars and coffee shops to talk shop, if you want to find the venues and neighborhoods that foster a multi-colored collaboration between the arts and across genres, cultures, ethnicities, and classes, you go to Brooklyn. Thirty years ago, you could say the [...]
While I missed out on Wednesday's Metropolis show, I did attend Thursday's free downtown show @ Place Des Festivals with 100 000+ of their closest friends to celebrate Pop and it's decade of existence: Then on Saturday, the first annual Pop Vs. Jock Basketball tournament @ McGill University Sports Center. A charity game organized by the Butler Bros. with [...]
Tweet It was almost exactly a year to the day when Arcade Fire started dropping some 123 vinyl singles in record stores across the world, much to the surprise of everyone. People were cropping up online posting pictures of this vinyl that wasn't announced by the band, something that shoppers were finding randomly littered amongst other vinyls in their local shop. That was "The Suburbs"/"Month Of May" , the first new music from the band in three years since 20072s [...]

I've noticed that Win Butler ( Arcade Fire 's head honcho) has been wearing a fair amount of militaristic clothing lately. I suppose it's nothing entirely new, he's kinda been doing that since their inception, but this year it seems like it's more along the same lines as Chris Martin and Coldplay did with their latest album "Living La Vida Loca" and its French Revolutionary War imagery. This new video for "The Suburbs" , directed by Spike Jonze, has a political and militaristic theme to it, much like M.I.A.'s "Born Free" , but with [...]
Six years after the release of their celebrated album, Funeral , Montreal-based band Arcade Fire seem to be everywhere - in headlines, headlining big summer music festivals, on top of charts, on top of the world. For one thing, the band just released their third full-length album, The Suburbs , to widespread acclaim and chart-topping glory. Front-man Win Butler received a photo of an old friend standing in front of a suburban Houston mall, his young daughter perched atop his shoulders. The image inspired Win to recall his childhood in those same suburbs of Houston, [...]

Of course NPR have gone and done it again. A full day before the album gets released in North America (it's released in Europe today) they've got the stream for the entire album Pitchfork just gave it Best New Music with an 8.6 out of 10, and most other sites I've read have given it between 8 and 10 with a few others giving lower than 8. One thing I will say is that do not judge this on your first listen. My first listen I was disappointed, and about 10 spins later I really [...]

Muy pronto saldrá a la venta el tercer disco de Arcade Fire , el album lleva por título The Suburbs , y saldrá a la venta para los británicos este lunes 2 de agosto, y para nosotros en este continente el martes 3 de agosto. ![[Listen/Download] – Brand New Song By Arcade Fire – “Rococo”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2710548_lg.jpg)
By now you may already know that Arcade Fire's new album "The Suburbs" has leaked ahead of it's August 2nd/3rd release date. By now you may already have a copy of it, or have listened to it and have heard this song already. To you, this song isn't new anymore, but to everyone else it's another taster of their third highly-anticipated album.Personally I've listened to the album a few times, however I'll reserve judgement as of yet because I like to give albums a good few listens before judging it. "Funeral" for example took me a few listens [...]
![[Listen/Download] – Two Brand New Arcade Fire Songs – “Ready To Start” and “We Used To Wait”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2618450_lg.jpg)
Two more brand new songs from their upcoming third album "The Suburbs". This time it looks like they were passed around to various radio stations because a bunch of them started tweeting about it this morning/afternoon. We've already heard snippets of "Ready To Start" from fans recording it at some of the live shows they've been playing over the last week or two, but now we get to hear a decent, full version rip of the song, albeit ripped from the radio. "We Used To Wait" is (as far as I know) unheard of before, but you'll have [...]

I just happened to check through Arcade Fire's various labels (as well as various online retailers, and I haven't seen it anywhere else yet, although it is only 3:30am) and saw that Merge now have a pre-order up for the new Arcade Fire album titled "The Suburbs". It's set for release on August 2nd in Europe and August 3rd in North America, and the best part is that it's a double LP , so that's not one, not two, but a shitload of songs! Plus if you pre-order it ($14.98 for the CD, [...]
![[Listen/Download] Brand New Song By Arcade Fire – The Suburbs/Month Of May](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2580516_lg.jpg)
As widely rumoured and reported, Montreal's Arcade Fire have released a brand new song. There's been a whole shitload of rumours and "investigating" after various changes to their website over the last couple of weeks, either purposely leaving hints or by just being sloppy. Then they released a couple of short clips from both of the above songs that didn't really reveal too much about them. Either way it's here now so give it a listen and let me know what you think This year may just be one of the best in recent [...]
![[Listen] – New Arcade Fire Song-Teasers – The Suburbs and Month of May](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2567007_lg.jpg)
Don't you just hate work? I mean, unless you have a sweet job as a squirrel groomer or leaf gatherer or something, chances are you have a shitty job. I was at my job when Arcade Fire decided to unleash teasers for their brand new single "The Suburbs" and b-side "Month Of May". Now granted that they're only teasers and you can't really tell too much about how the whole songs, let alone the whole album, might sound, but it's still good to hear a little something. "The Suburbs" begins slowly with an acoustic guitar and simple drumbeat, [...]

It's not out quite yet but it apparently will be. Over the last few weeks people have been glued to the Arcade Fire website, myself included. First they changed the layout of it, then they started slowly adding new tour dates and rumours were rife that they would add some club dates in North America and Europe. As of yet they haven't, only announcing festival dates....ok and a couple of club dates in Europe, but not a whole tour. Anyway, then they changed the banner at the top of their site to say "Arcade Fire Presents [...]
