Eeek! I've been revealed. Or should I say I've been revealing Over on the Contrast Podcast , Tim, the brain behind that wonderful enterprise, has just finished up the Third Annual CD Swap. You make a mixtape for someone (Tim tells you who) and you get a mixtape from someone else in return. It all works kind of like a secret Santa thing. You don't know who's making your mix tape until you get it in the mail. Yesterday Tim surprised us and posted the first [...]

Dearest Friends, it has been a rather action-packed week, with dollops of drama and a wee bit of trauma. But fret not, all is relatively well... For starters, Darling Daughter fell off a skittish horse last Sunday, and the meeting of her left shoulder with the ground resulted in a broken arm. To be specific, the poor thing is now sporting a proximal humerus fracture . Indeed, she recovered from the pain of the fall so quickly that initially we suspected only a bad strain or wrench. We only discovered the break after [...]

Goodness, this week has squirmed out of my hands and is galloping away towards the sunset. Thursday already, and I had meant to post so much more. Sigh... Anyway, for those of you who have not yet seen it, Contrast Podcast this week offered up another nifty episode of artists introducing their own songs. I particularly liked the Blur-esque Shakes track and Anibal Miranda's bouncy bit about skirts... As ever, you can download the cast here , or subscribe in perpetuity using this RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/Co ntrastPodcast So, [...]
Cover versions are fun little things, because they allow songs to be reinterpretted in different ways and allow the listener to get into the music more. Sometimes they can be bad, particularly when it's one of your favourite songs that has been murdered by a pop princess wanting to reach out to a larger audience who don't want to listen, but occasionally you can find some real gems. Here are a couple that I've found over the past few days, for your enjoyment: Sonata Arctica - The Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler) Four [...]

Is today Tim Young day here on EAR FARM? You may know Tim as the man behind the excellent Contrast Podcast or from the band Harold's Leap ...perhaps as the bloglord behind The Face Of Today ? Yes, it's true, Tim is a man of many talents and tops among them might just be covering indie-rock songs. Actually, that remains to be seen but he's off to a brilliant start. Last Friday, Tim posted a cover version of "Gotta Go" by Victor [...]
