I shot the Luce Unplugged December performance yesterday at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. "Luce Unplugged" is a monthly series that has a local musician come play for an hour after chatting about one of the paintings in the area of his/her choice. It's a great idea, one that showcases the two things DC has a lot of: local musicians and free Smithsonian events. The performer for December was Title Tracks frontman John Davis , who performed some great covers, as well as tracks of his own. My piece for the [...]

The Young Maths is a group I've covered before on the this blog , back when they were much younger maths. Thus far, the group has released a couple EPs that would lead me to believe it's still searching for a sound. Young Maths execute various styles of indie rock really well-I mean, just compare " Daughters and Cents " to " Fingered On the Dance Floor "-but the band is yet to really pick an idea, get out some shovels, and start digging for something a little more definitive. That might be what happens [...]

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 I usually write about something based in here in Austin, but on occasion I have to give some attention to my beloved Washington, DC. This time around my love is going out to Title Tracks, who just put out a great record called In Blank. In case you don't know, the band is led by John Davis, formally of both the pop duo Georgie James and the fiercely fun post-punk group Q And Not U. In Blank is the second [...]

Words by Brendan. Pittsburgh photo courtesy of Hugh Twyman Summer concert season is getting underway, and this weekend is perfect evidence of that. There are plenty of options and we're sure you'll find a show you'll want to see. You might even find too many! Stream some songs right here and read up on the bands hitting stages all over town in the next few days. And wish that you had a teleporter and a time machine to make it to all of them. Nik [...]
Summer hooks and shifty looks?

Drake 's back! (And so am I.) -ed. Drake's Take: New Releases 04.19.11 I won't go pretending last week's releases weren't missed, especially a batch that included the latest from Panda Bear, TV On the Radio, The Feelies, Low, Jonny, Vivian Girls and Sonny & the Sunsets . Both vacation and laptop woes limited computer time, so it was necessary. But really, even with a shallower collection of releases, this week's might be better remembered, if only for the amazing sophomore release from Canadian shift-key killer tUnE-yArDs [...]

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars It's weird to say this, but John Davis finally seems to be finding his own voice, his own way. After working with Q and Not U , he then formed up the pop-duo Georgie James , then went on to write the first Title Tracks record. Here, on In Blank , the approach is much simpler than previous works, just giving you straight-ahead power-pop, and in doing so, he's giving you what seems the best demonstration [...]

Every day, Daily Downloads offers 10 free and legal mp3 downloads, plus free and legal live sets from around the internet. A couple of years ago I named Girls in Trouble's debut self-titled release one of my favorite albums of 2009 . I find myself often going back to that record and marveling at the storytelling skills of Alicia Jo Rabins . Girls in Trouble's second album, Half You Half Me , is released on May 17th, another [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. As some of you may have already heard, we just started organizing concerts at the Treibhaus club in our hometown Lucerne. Our group, which consists of four young people, is called «Erasedtapes» . Under the slogan «Space for new things», we try to offer young, mostly unknown bands a stage to play their music from indie rock, to folk and electronic stuff. In two weeks, on April 8, we will celebrate our first offical event ever: «Press Play». Our guests are Washington's indie rock [...]
If you haven't been introduced to John Davis before, you must've been hiding behind a rock of some sort. He was in Q and Not U , one of the phenomenal Dischord bands and he fronted Georgie James for a bit. Both bands earned a respectable following, but now John's working on his new group, Title Tracks , who are about to release their second album, In Blank , on April 19th via Ernest Jenning Records . These tunes are [...]

Title Tracks (ex- Q And Not U ) has announced their next full-length. The record is titled In Blank and is due out April 19, 2011 via Ernest Jenning , following up It Was Easy which was released in 2010. Click below for the details. A song from the release entitled "All Tricks" can be downloaded from the label here .

Title Tracks is the project of John Davis formerly of indie-pop duo Georgie James and post-punks Q and Not U (who are one of the few bands of that era that have not caught the reunion bug yet). "All Tricks" from In Blank finds Davis writing some catchy garage-pop that fans of The Soft Pack or Ted Leo should dig. Look out for the record on April 19th via Ernest Jenning. You can stream a few more tracks over on the Title Tracks blog . Mp3: Title Tracks [...]
