By now most folks know where I stand on the present sensitive folk movement. Mainly that I’m over it. So today I thought I would prove I'm capable of more than just bitching and post some bands I actually like. And no, none of them formed in the 90’s. In my latest search for bands [...] The post Songs I like: Ladies Night appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

Titus Andronicus and The So So Glos: bringing back the dudes BY JORDAN MAINZER REWRITE BEGINNING. SEE EMAIL What's left to say about Titus Andronicus at this point? At least that's what I initially thought. I don't think it's an overstatement to say that the Glen Rock, New Jersey band’s show on May 4th with fellow Brooklyn DIY punks The So So Glos and Chicago-based but originally from Brooklyn band Sharpless (who sound like some sort of Thermals/Screaming Females hybrid and who [...]

It's really hard to narrow down a list of Top Albums of 2012, especially when you have four contributors with different opinions. We gave the reins to Nathan.Lankford and Nicole Baumann on this one, since they write the majority of the album reviews, but we all have a little representation within this. Now, we do realize that our site has specialized tastes, so please realize that these are our OPINIONS . You're welcome to disagree, and, in fact, we encourage that process. Also, we're doing a Top 100 because so many records came out this year, it wouldn't be fair to narrow [...]

Thanks to our busy time at SXSW , we were a bit slow on posting our mixtape this month. So, instead of the usual two-installment approach, today we deliver the whole thing. This should be more than enough music to distract you from your actual work on this Friday afternoon. 1. Chromatics - "Kill for Love" 2. El-P - "The Full Retard" [...]

A picture tells a thousand words, right? They also help capture a thousand bands, and for an event like Austin, TX's South by Southwest , a camera isn't an added incentive, it's a necessity. Last week, several of our photographers hit the bustling streets and furious venues, capturing the talent both young and old. For reference, you should know that a day at SXSW begins at 10 a.m. and doesn't stop until sometime between the hours of two or six in the morning. Yeah, that's a lot of footage. So, if you couldn't make it down to Texas, take a [...]

While on tour with Screaming Females and Diarrhea Planet (great names, I know), Titus Andronicus have surprised fans with two brand new songs. Now available on Youtube for your perusal is live footage of "Ecce Homo" and "Still Life With Hot Deuce and Silver Platter", two new songs that were played at the band's March 4th stop at Asbury Park, New Jersey's Stone Pony venue. The New Jersey rockers are expected to release their third LP sometime this year, presumably sometime in the [...]

Titus Andronicus have announced a handful of dates for their Screaming on Planet Titus tour. Screaming Females and Diarrhea Planet will be accompanying Titus Andronicus for the spring tour. Titus Andronicus last released The Monitor in 2010.

At least CMJ Thursday is pretty straight-forward during the day. It's the I Guess I'm Floating (one of my very favorite blogs) Pianos day party. It's pretty much wall-to-wall worthwhile bands including Baths, Beach Fossils, Oberhofer, Teen Daze, Young Man, Braids, and Gobble Gobble. The nighttime gets much more complicated. Of course, part of this is that by the third day of CMJ, whatever showcase you go to probably has at least one band you've already seen, and it's harder to skip around from showcase to showcase in NYC than it is in the nicely walkable Austin, Texas. [...]
By: David Schultz Naming your band after a Shakespeare play and crafting an entire album around a Civil War motif might give people the impression that you are side project of The Decemberists or spent too much time listening to Rush records. Then again, considering that Titus Andronicus is The Bard’s bloodiest play and the Civil War is America’s bloodiest conflict, that combination might also

So many festivals to keep track of! The next installment is the seventh annual all-ages FYF Fest in downtown LA on September 4. The Rapture, Panda Bear, !!! , Man Man, The Mountain Goats, Screaming Females, Titus Andronicus , School of Seven Bells , The Soft Pack , Abe Vigoda and many more will take the stage at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. Advance tickets are available for $25 at the FYF Fest website , where you can also find full lineup details and directions.
There's only one place that boasts both The Boss and The Situation. That's right-with Bruce Springsteen taking on Ticketmaster and the cast of the "Jersey Shore" taking on tans, hair spray and dance floors , it's clear that New Jersey is taking over. While the Garden State enjoys its time in the spotlight, our job is to hip you to local bands making moves. We've already talked to dozens of Jersey musicians on the rise, including Titus Andronicus, Vivian Girls, The Feelies and Jessie Baylin. We've scouted dozens more, including Real Estate, Screaming Females, The [...]
