I'm not sure what, exactly, people are expecting when they shell out to see the Rolling Stones arena-tour extravaganza, but they probably aren't counting on appearances from voice-ravaged weirdo hero Tom Waits, even if he has recorded a bunch of stuff with Keith Richards over the years. Last night, however, Waits joined the Stones onstage at Oakland's Oracle Arena, beautifully growling his way through "Little Red Rooster," a blues standard most associated with Howlin' Wolf but covered by a bazillion others. 's 2009 track "Spacious Thoughts." Now, several years later, the making of N.A.S.A.'s ambitious debut album The Spirit of Apollo is being released into the cosmic ether through a new documentary.

Tom Waits  and  Keith Richards recording together to contribute a track to an album of pirate ballads, sea songs and chanteys just seems to make sense on so many levels. The duo are no strangers to working together, with Richards contributing guitar and backing vocals to Waits' 1985 critically acclaimed album Rain Dogs , and more recently on the singer-songwriter's 2011 studio effort Bad As Me . In a slightly disappointing announcement, the mystery of the Tom Waits teasers has finally been laid to rest. It's a new video for the Bad As Me track "Hell Broke Luce". The track features Flea and Keith Richards. Sure, it's a great video, but the hype got people excited about a tour or even a new album, so this is a bit of a let down. Here's the video:

Over the past week Tom Waits has kept us guessing at just what he'd reveal today by releasing a series of images finding the Rock Hall inductee in different scenarios such as one in which he was dressed as a pirate .
