BAT FOR LASHES, HOTT MT ( Wonder Ballroom , 128 NE Russell) The new Bat for Lashes album, The Haunted Man , is brimming with beauty, a tangle of shrouded woods and tarnished glamour. The uncanny voice and music of Natasha Khan is a joy to behold, hooky and joyous and mysterious. It's probably in your best interest to bat your dancing lashes all over the Wonder tonight. JOHNNY MARR, ALAMAR ( Aladdin Theater , 3017 SE Milwaukie) Read our article on Johnny Marr . THE TELESCOPES, LSD AND THE SEARCH FOR GOD, NIGHT BEATS ( Dante's , 350 W Burnside) In the late '80s and early '90s, UK band the Telescopes challenged Spacemen 3 and Loop for space-rock supremacy. Stephen Lawrie and company veered more toward Loop's Stooges-esque savagery than S3's more devotional, stellar hymns: Their early songs seesawed between [...]
SAVAGES, NO BRA ( Bunk Bar , 1028 SE Water) Their record isn't out yet, but the buzz around British girl post-punkers Savages is deafening. With their angular skronk (which seems designed to make music writers use words like "angular" and "skronk"), this four-piece makes sheets of sound that are violent, hectic, and flat-out awesome. THE SHIVAS, MISTER TANG ( Bunk Bar , 1028 SE Water) If you still haven't heard the Shivas, tonight's Bunk Bar set is liable to provide one of the Portland-area garage-pop group's more rollicking performances. After all, their LP Whiteout receives a vinyl re-release April 30 on venerable Northwest imprint K Records, and it's nearly spring! That's important, because Whiteout is pure summertime fun from start to finish (it works for spring, too), with fuzzy, reckless bouts of surf-punk that transcend the calculated cool of genre saboteurs and inject a well-translated love for rock [...]

ALICE DAY 7" (HC41) by Nucular Aminals NUCULAR AMINALS, GALLONS, HAUNTED HORSES ( The Know , 2026 NE Alberta) Nucular Aminals spent most of March touring Europe, and tonight's homecoming show also doubles as the release show for their latest 7-inch single, out on Hovercraft. The A-side, "Alice Day," and the B-side, "Come On," are two of a kind—mellow but miffed minor-key rock with the band's serious pop chops tempered by their macabre artiness. Nucular Aminals' last album, November's terrific Start from an End , was their best work [...]

Brooks Reynolds Alexander Fairchild is more prolific than your average up-and-coming artist. The singer-songwriter from Ontario, Canada, touted as a one-man band, just released his second EP in a month, called Where Do You Go . We've got your first look at what Fairchild's recent flurry of activity with an exclusive premiere of his video "Tonight." "I'm beyond excited to share these new songs with everyone so I can get on with my life and write more new ones," Fairchild tells Spinner. "Such is a life of slavery to [...]
LITTLE GREEN CARS, THE YOUNG EVILS ( Doug Fir , 830 E Burnside) Little Green Cars will inevitably earn some comparisons to bands like the Lumineers and Of Monsters and Men. The five Dublin 20-year-olds traffic in the same kind of gently rumpled, harmony-laden folk rock that has the potential to appeal to the masses and rankle the snobs. But there's something really exciting about Little Green Cars, something that deserves to grab the ears of those who consider themselves immune to the jaunty, Mumford-y strums of the mainstream. First of all, maybe it's because they're Irish, but [...]

Prior to becoming huge during the grunge era, the Minneapolis band was raw, punky, and great, one of the titans in a crowded '80s Twin [...]
JEFF BRIDGES AND THE ABIDERS ( Aladdin Theater , 3017 SE Milwaukie) When he's not being "The Dude" or ending child hunger, he's alt-rocking the country world. From twangy Willie Nelson-style love ballads to rocking guitar riffs, Jeff Bridges and the Abiders know how to throw down the down-home jamz. Just make sure you don't forget his White Russian. SHOVELS AND ROPE, DENVER ( Doug Fir , 830 E Burnside) Husband-and-wife duo Shovels and Rope are perpetually on the road. Just in time for tonight's show at the Aladdin Theater, here's a new remix of an Unknown Mortal Orchestra song. Norwegian producer Lindstrøm took apart UMO's excellent track "Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)" and turned into a dizzying dance track that turns Ruban Nielson's tight songwriting into something expansive. The nine-minute track locks into an established groove for the first half, then starts toying with the boundaries, turning down corners and following intriguing threads. You won't hear much Unknown Mortal Orchestra in here, to be honest, but that's just fine. You can get [...]
UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA, WAMPIRE ( Aladdin Theater , 3017 SE Milwaukie) Earlier this year, Unknown Mortal Orchestra dropped their second album of brain-melting underwater psych-funk, and now the Portland trio plays its first hometown show since the record's release. They've been setting alight stages across the country, and are ready to do the same for a hometown crowd. NED LANNAMANN Also, read our article on UMO . [...]

Gross Deathbeds by The We Shared Milk THE WE SHARED MILK, AAN, YOURS ( Doug Fir , 830 E Burnside) For a snapshot of explosive civic-mindedness, look no further than this lineup for Portland's best of-the-moment indie rockers. They have learned the secret: play whatever you like, challenge listeners all you want, but do it with friends—especially important when your music defies categorization, when it sounds like nothing any audience has ever heard. The We Shared Milk famously recorded their glam-garage History of Voyager & Legend Tripping with [...]

TALIB KWELI, CORY MO, LOS CHICHARONES, DJ BIGGZ ( Hawthorne Theatre , 1507 SE César E. That doesn't stop him from putting on fantastic shows—and tonight should be no exception, since Kweli, the muscle behind Black Star and Reflection Eternal, will be backed by a live band.
