![Stars – Dead Hearts [Music Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3804374_lg.jpg)
It's almost been a year since the release of Star's The Five Ghosts . Finally the music video for Dead Hearts has been released. Dead Hearts which is in my opinion the best track on the album. Dead Hearts is such a haunting slow mellow pop ballad. Sad that the members aren't featured in the video. But at least there is references to hearts. Have a look at the video. Here is the Daytrotter session version of [...]

Toronto - For the record, I have never been the biggest fan of Memphis frontman Torquil Campbell. While I've enjoyed his work with Stars , he's generally been my least favourite part of that band and I will admit that I have thought him to seem a bit pretentious at times. Unfair? Perhaps. So in an effort to put aside any preconceived notions and prejudices, I took it upon myself to check out his other band and see what they were all about. And I must admit, they put on a pretty damn good show. Campbell somehow comes across [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , Q + A Yasmin Siddiqui Things have been quiet on the Stars front since the Canadian swoon-popsters released their fifth album, 'The Five Ghosts' -- just long-listed yesterday (June 16) for the Polaris Prize -- last summer. But the quintet has been anything but idle in that time: singer-guitarist Amy Millan and bassist Evan Cranley welcomed their [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Arts & Crafts While dream-popsters Stars take a little break (in part thanks to the recent birth of Amy Millan and Evan Cranley's first child), frontman Torquil Campbell has been anything but idle, releasing not just one, but two albums in recent months. The loquacious vocalist (who readily chatters away about everything from pop to politics) has been on a creative roll, [...]
After a cursory listen of Memphis's Here Comes A City, it wouldn't be all too surprising if you thought you had just heard a new album by Stars. After all, one-half of Memphis is Torquil Campbell, whose better known for his day job as the male voice of Stars. And considering that he's also a principle songwriter for both groups, a number of tracks off Here Comes A City are very clearly cut from the cloth of Stars' melancholic pop. But the operative word there is "cursory." What's most interesting about Here Comes A City [...]

I'm back from Vegas and have some presents for you all! I'm a longtime Stars fan (obviously), so when vocalist Torquil Campbell approached us about filming with Chris Dumont and his side project Memphis , I was more-or-less jumping up and down with pure joy. Picture it. Memphis is the first band we've worked with for our new series, 'Honey I'm Home' , a collection of videos and recordings shot in our home studio in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn (more on [...]
To get over the schmaltzy nature of Valentine's Day yesterday here is our anti V-day declaration in the spirit of past posts on this site. Don't forget we are still in the running for an IPhone 4 giveaway so get your entries in here. Stars - 'Your Ex-Lover Is Dead' In my mind this track is about [...]
Memphis - Torquil Campbell of Canadian alt-pop staples Stars and Broken Social Scene and longtime pal Chris Dumont are back with their third album // Release : Here Comes A City (March 8, Arts + Crafts) // Sounds like : a modern version of The Go-Betweens and Prefab Sprout...dense, rhythmic jangle of alt/indie-pop with lush production // What we like : the Smith-like leanings of "Apocalypse Love Song"...the brisk energy and bright tones of "I Want the Lights Off After Dark"... [...]
Torquil Campbell and Chris Dumont haven't spent much time together as of late. Campbell, in particular, has been busy with the success of his other band, Stars. But this year, the attention will swing back towards Memphis when the duo release their third album, Here Comes A City, on March 8th through Arts and Crafts. The album, which takes its title from a song by the Go-Betweens, was recorded in a scenic fashion over a three-year period in New York, Montreal, Seattle, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Vancouver. Expect dark, dense, and troubled imagery to pop up [...]

Torquil Campbell and Chris Dumont used to live together in New York City, and it was here in the late '90s that they began to make music together. Both men worked hard but lived as struggling artists for some time, and Campbell moved back to Canada where he would find success as singer for Stars. Dumont remained in the city, becoming a carousel operator in Central Park and then an actor in a prestigious opera house. Despite the distance, the duo has released two full-lengths and is set to release their third full-length, Here Comes A City [...]

Torquil Campbell of Stars and Chris Dumon are returning with their band known as Memphis for a 3rd LP under the moniker. Below you'll find new track from the guys entitled "I Want the Lights on After Dark" for your enjoyment. Of course you'll hear a lot of the influence from Campbell and his many years in the Canadian powerhouse. Hell, this could probably even be labeled as a Stars song and most people couldn't tell the difference right? New album Here Comes a City will be available on March 8th via [...]

Review of the album. Stars released their fifth album appropriately titled "The Five Ghost" on June 21, 2010. Its the bands first album not to be released on Arts & Crafts , mostly on their label Soft Revolution Records and on Universal Music Canada. With a band that has been around since 2000, usually by the fifth album there would be chaos (unlike the G20) in the band. But the band is still together and stronger with this effort on The Five Ghosts. The big themes in the [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , New Music , Canada It's only been three years since Montreal indie rock outfit Stars were demanding to be taken to the riot, but despite a steady stream of accolades it seems the band has become mired in a deep sense of melancholy. After releasing the critically-adored 'In Our Bedroom After the War' in 2007, singer-guitarist Amy Millan released her sophomore solo album, 'Masters of the Burial,' while fellow vocalist Torquil Campbell created his own side project, [...]

Less than a day after we praised Stars' cover of the Smiths' "Asleep," they've gone and dropped an even bigger headline… Our favorite Montreal, by way of New York City and Toronto, based indie pop quintet announced their forthcoming fifth album today: The Five Ghosts. " We have never written an album with this much cohesion and unity," said Amy Millan in a statement. "It is the first time we've had the luxury of being together in a huge room writing songs off the floor." [...]
