Hey Wollongong kids, surely by now you know who HUCHI MUCHI are. They're that cool collective who throw parties at sweet venues, accompanied by even sweeter bands and artists from da Wollongong hood. If you for some reason didn't actually know about this party crew, I hate to be the one to tell you that Huchi Muchi is on its death bed. Having said that though, they're throwing one last party before they sadly leave this world. Spanning across two venues, the farewell will feature 12 of Wollongong's finest musicians that [...]

Just over a year ago, Jen and I went into Manhattan on a bright October morning, heading to the Bowery Electric. It was the last day of the CMJ Festival and we were there to see Pearl and the Beard play a short set at noon. We were going to see them a few weeks later as the opener for the David Wax Museum and decided to go see them that day without having listened to any of their songs before. Not knowing what to expect, we went from the warm, bright sunshine to the cool, [...]

In between dorm life and mid-term exams, NYU trio Town Hall released their full-length debut "Roots and Bells" this spring. Though maybe not your typical college undergrads, the Brooklyn trio met as students at the Clive Davis Institute of Recording Music in 2010 and have been jamming together ever since. With the poppy, upbeat vocals of Stefan Weiner and Phoebe Ryan, the band charges through "Roots and Bells" with songs about mischief and longing that mix playful humor with a diverse set of stirring folk melodies. Joined by Plume Giant and The Due Diligence, they'll be starting [...]

When Town Hall appeared in our email back in January, I knew the NYC based band was onto something good, but I wasn't expecting their popularity to grow so fast. Yet, I'm glad people are paying attention to the indie/alt/folk band. Earlier this week they released a five track album called Town Hall Plays the Classics, Vol. 1 featuring songs that the members love and turning them into their own unique sound. Jimmy Eat World, R. Kelly , and Ja Rule are just some of the cover's you'll get. You [...]

Hot on the heels of our earlier post of the Smoke Fairies covering The Cult , we have Town Hall Plays The Classics Vol 1 , a free EP of five covers by the NY folksters. Each member of the band picked a favourite song and each was then given the Town Hall treatment. It comes hot on the heels of their excellent debut album, Roots and Bells ( purchase here ) and videos for each of the covers can be seen on [...]
