Medium Sean throws down a few bars on "Two Can Win" in tribute to Dilla. Sean had this to say about it: " In honor of J. Dilla being one of the most influential producers of all time, I decided to lay a verse to one of my favorite tracks off of J. Dilla's Donuts. Being from Detroit I feel I have a responsibility to honor his legacy n continue it in my own way. His soul will live forever… RIP J. Dilla" Big Sean - Two Can Win [...]

BK's Teen Demon are about to deliver you an ass kicking you won't soon forget. "Not Alone" is loud, percussive, and bruising in all the best ways. The track's also focused, that's probably what draws us to it. That energy and rawness, the song's singular tone, all of that is finely focused. It's like the viscera of 10,000 focused and spit out through a straw. It's that focus that makes the track really powerful. Not Alone by Teen Demon Teen Demon ( [...]

Portland-based husband and wife duo Mint Julep turn in this beautiful subtle version of the Headphones track "I Never Wanted You". The cover strikes a really nice line between the urgency and tension of the song's instrumental track and the more withdrawn stylings and delivery of singer Hollie Kenniff. It's quite the compelling dynamic. Listen. Mint Julep - I Never Wanted You (Headphones Cover) Mint Julep ( Facebook ) Rating 8.5

"I Do" is one of our favorite hip hop tracks three months ago, two months ago, RIGHT NOW. We've still got "I Do" on some serious rotation. So you can imagine we let out a collective b3sci "HELL YES" when we got ears on this alternate version of "I Do" which includes a Drizzy feature. Yeah! That's a "Friday surprise" we can get behind. Hit that play button. Young Jeezy - I Do (Feat. Jay-Z, Drake & Andre 3000) (Alternate Version) Young Jeezy [...]

UK D&B journeymen Brookes Brothers put an A+ new spin on Nero's latest. BB's production choice has elements of classic D&B in it but it's certainly not pure to that genre. There's bit of drumstep, pop, and rock weaved through there too. Top shelf stuff. We are into it. Give it a spin below. Nero - Must Be The Feeling (Brookes Brothers) Brookes Brothers ( Facebook ) Rating 8.5
"Tarpit" has always been a fan-favourite for listeners of Dinosaur Jr., and since first appearing on You're Living All Over Me it has become one of their most well-known tracks from the album alongside "Little Fury Things" and "The Lung." Shawn Chrystopher - One of My Homies Shawn Chrystopher ( Facebook ) Rating 8.4

Supposedly, this freshly released Busta-featured version of Labrinth's massive "Earthquake" track (one of our favorites from last year) is just a piece of a (hopefully) forthcoming mega remix of the track featuring not only Bussa Buss but U.K. vet Kano, the always live Wretch 32, and a new verse from original track featuree Tinie Tempah. That's cool. For now, we've got this Busta only version for y'all to sample. Like we're not the biggest Busta marks out there but the dude definitely goes in here. Get it, girl. Labrinth - Earthquake (Feat. Busta Rhymes) [...]

"80 BPM" by Belgian trio Dalai Lama Renaissance is a simple & smooth slice of beats, far-off atmospheres, and soul. What probably separates "80 BPM" and DLR from the mountain of similar sounding submissions we get on the reg is that soul. There's a weight and emotive punch that not only supports but gives the track a liveliness and vitality that should keep you engaged 20-30 spins into the future. A good number of bands that have released material on Woodsist have gone on to big things. Home to an early Wavves album, as well as material from Real Estate, Ducktails, Beach Fossils, Vivian Girls, Blank Dogs, Thee Oh Sees, and obviously Woods themselves, the label has provided a suitable launching pad or stopping point along the paths to indie success for many a young band. It's a wonder then, that Tim Presley's White Fence project, which to date has two LPs out on Woodsist, hasn't garnered a similar type of success. It's not that the quality wasn't there, [...]
