The Hangover was a surprisingly funny film. I have a tendency to carry a high bar when it comes to comedy films, and while it didn't quite meet it, it still warranted a few laughs. However, I haven't had a chance to catch  The Hangover Part II , but from what I've heard from fellow film critics, it was more of the same. Following the WonderCon trailer for  Pacific Rim is this first official trailer for the film. Featuring so much new footage, the new trailer includes some back story to how the kaiju appeared and why the Jaegers were built to combat them. Fortunately, not too much of the story is spoiled in this trailer; balanced into the narrative context are, you guessed it, new scenes of giant mechas fighting giant monsters. Franz Ferdinand have finally announced a new album: Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action . That's the album art above. It will come out via Domino on August 27. It's mind boggling to think that this is their first album since 20092s Tonight. They spent the last year recording the album in frontman Alex Kapranos' Scottish Studio, and Nick McCarthy's Sausage Studios in London. As some of those familiar with my alter-ego know, I'm not a fan of horror movies  at all . I get too anxious and nervous when facing suspense and gore. The first  V/H/S , which you can catch on Netflix Instant, was a fan favorite in 2012 film festivals. It's been almost a decade since the last  Chronicles of Riddick film (and five years since Vin Diesel has played a character not named Dom Toretto), but coming this fall, Diesel is set to don the goggles again with the third film in the franchise,  Riddick . Arrested Development  is one of my absolute favorite TV series. With its relentless stream of inside-jokes, witticisms, and cast whose talents are constantly matched AND one-upped with every scene, news of the show's unfair cancellation in 2006 was met with both anger and understanding. The combination of Fox's mishandling of the show by continuously shifting its time slot and the show's inherent necessity to watch each episode in order to understand the jokes and gags proved to be its downfall. I've been dying to get a first glimpse of Gravity ever since the movie was in development and there were all kinds of crazy rumors swirling around it, like it would essentially be a single tracking shot in the vein of that famous scene (original doesn't appear to be on YT) from his excellent Children of Men. According to Gravity executive producer Chris DeFaria, the movie “ opens with a continuous 17-minute shot ” that shows everything we see in this trailer. Trailer: “Gravity” (dir. Alfonso Cuarón ) Director Alfonso Cuarón is famous for using long, unbroken shots in films like Children of Men but he seems to be taking it to the next level with Gravity which is reportedly filled with long shots including a 17-minute opening scene. We’ve been given a first taste with this trailer which looks thrilling, minimalistic and visually breathtaking, though I’m not completely sold yet on Sandra Bullock in the lead role. 

Alfonso Cuaron is one of those directors who, I feel, hasn't really received the proper dues he should from audiences. Sure,  Y Tu Mama Tambien won a handful of awards and nominated for an Oscar,  Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban  pushed the  Harry Potter film franchise towards a more mature vision (let alone a decidedly creative turn that sometimes clashed with the previous two films in the series), and  Children of Men is arguably one of the most underrated sci-fi films to come out of the past decade.
