The Black's gritty garage-Americana is like a slightly rusted saw that still works, cutting deep into whatever needs cleaved — in this case starry-eyed romance and not a little bit of rock 'n' roll history. The Austin quartet, featuring Matt Simon (ex-Voxtrot) and Dave Longoria (ex-Trail of Dead) along with Bryan Mammel and Amy Hawthorne, channels the vintage sounds of the '50s and '60s (a little bit of the Band, a little bit of Elvis' swagger), keeping it stripped down for the roadhouses and whiskey joints that we know are still out there, and still work too. [...]

I'll give you that this is a little bit abrasive, compared to the music I usually post about, but I still have a penchant for the heavier side of things. Unlike most bands in their area, Glaswegian group United Fruit are here to give you a swift kick to the teeth. The guitars are shredding and the vocals are reminiscent of the olden days of Trail of Dead , so you know we Austinites are going to have a liking for that. These kids have just released their new album, [...]

Depois de não entender direito o conceito do projeto Undercover, do AV Club , o ...And tou Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead acabou decidindo no último momento que a música Blood And Fire das Indigo Girls , era a melhor da lista para eles fazerem a versão. Por mais diferente que possa parecer uma banda de post-hardcore gravando um cover de folk, o vocalista Conrad Keely afirmou que ele costumava usar essa música como uma forma de se aprender a cantar, e por isso decidiu fazer o [...]
...AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD, RINGO DEATHSTARR, FOLLOW THAT BIRD ( Wonder Ballroom , 128 NE Russell) ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead are hardly the "10.0" band that Source Tags & Codes (AKA the one Trail of Dead album you own) made them out to be. Yet while the instrument-smashing gimmicks might be what defined the band, the Austin quartet has a natural gift for creating bombastic rock-and-roll songs that rival anything else the genre has to offer these days. Support act Ringo Deathstarr are more [...]

Austin noise-pop trio Ringo Deathstarr put the fun back into the re-heated genre known as Shoegaze with this year's excellent debut album, Colour Trip ( AC30/ Sonic Unyon ). The band are hitting the road in North America with the amazing Trail of Dead, which includes a stop at Echoplex in Los Angeles. This is going to be an ear-splitter. Click here to view the embedded video. New video from And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead's latest longplayer Tao of the Dead finds the band in an old silent movie filled some crystal ball wizardry and an out of body experience of sorts.

17 April, 2011 With new album Tao of The Dead, the Austin quartet could already very well have won the battle for best rock album of the year. I've personally not stopped playing it for the last two months and having previously never given them the time of day they're surely doing something right to effect that change. Given the album's impact then, this was a show I was, on the one hand, particularly eager to see but that was tempered with wondering about how the material would be performed - as a whole with older songs [...]
[Read my Day One recap here. -Ed.] If Kvelertak aren't rich men by the time they release their next album they'll have seriously blown it. Based solely on the power of their incredible live performances at SXSW, the first of which took place Thursday afternoon inside Emo's at the annual MS-sponsored Full Metal Texas event, [...]
The Megaphonic Thrift - Candy Sin Excited to present the 6-minute noise opus "Candy Sin" by The Megaphonic Thrift of Norway, which presents itself within the likes of Trail of Dead, Refused and mewithoutyou. With minutes trailing into two or three or four of immense guitar plucking followed by ruckus drum beating and bass wailing, Thrift [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Q + A Boris Draschoff ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead stripped down to a quartet and spent just 10 days in the studio for their seventh record, 'Tao of the Dead.' The album is presented in two parts, with each performed in a single tuning. Everything from the wordplay and interlinked motifs [...]

Trail of Dead - Tao of the Dead Asobi Seksu - Flourescence Cut Copy - Zonoscope Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die... PJ Harvey - Let England Shake WWTB Since last week was relatively light on releases, it was a conscious decision this time to roll last week's and this week's WWTBs together. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking [...]

What's coming out of Akron/Family's Volcano? Pick of the Week: Akron/Family : S/t II – The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT (Dead Oceans) – They're a strange/unique band that draws from a much wider range of influences than most. Each record's a progression on the last and they're always interesting to check out. "Silly Bears" is like the hippie version of a Sleigh Bells song. At the Echo on 4/6/11 [...]
