From time to time, as I travel on trains in and out of London, I see things that I want to find and photograph. This has led me into some fruitless forays such as wandering along several trackside streets looking for one large lavender bush - but never finding it. But occasionally, I do find and see something interesting such as these.

• Wampire - Trains

The Portland, Oregon, duo known as  Wampire   is about to release the band's debut album, Curiosity , in a couple of weeks. Here's a song, Trains , from the record.

We're rather excited about Wampire's debut LP, and you should be too. Why, you ask? Well, firstly, they're called Wampire . WAM! Secondly, they're from Portland. Beijing-based photographer Wang Fuchun produced this series of incredibly vivid pictures of Chinese passengers on trains. A railway worker-turned photographer, Wang has been documenting all sorts of unique moments on trains for decades. From steam locomotives to bullet trains, the past three-decades of changes for China' s railways have all been recorded in Wang's photos. Wang's bond with trains first started several decades ago. Influenced by his elder brother, who had an established career in rail, Wang also became a railway worker in 1970 after he finished his military service. Due to his strong interest in arts, [...]

Just a bit ago I caught Wampire opening up for  Foxygen and Unknown Mortal Orchestra ; I said it then, and I'll say it again: Wampire  were the best band that night. They have this combination of California sun-pop with a bit of R&B swagger...even throwing in some alternative rock jamming moments.  They're definitely one of those bands who I've been waiting to hear more from, which is a good thing since their debut Curiosity is coming out in two weeks from Polyvinyl [...]

Today is another get out of the house and enjoy the weather day. It is a bit chilly but the sun is too wonderful to waste. Luckily, I have a few errands so I'll venture out a bit later. The sun is on hiatus again. The sky is white cloudy and it's chilly, not cold. The birds are busy at the feeders, and the chipmunk is somewhere else. Gracie has been in the yard most of the morning. Every now and then she barks and then comes in to check on me then goes back outside. She loves the yard. Drop City Yacht Club has released the official music video for "Crickets." Directed by Matt Stawski (Cee Lo Green, The Wanted, Train), the playful video features the band fighting for the affection of the fairer sex in a swagger competition.

Tom Thumb was the first American-built steam locomotive used on a common-carrier railroad. Designed and built by Peter Cooper in 1830, it was designed to convince owners of the newly formed Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to use steam engines. It is especially remembered as a participant in an impromptu race with a horse-drawn car; the "Tom Thumb" led the race until a belt slipped off a pulley and the engine lost power. The demonstration was successful, however, and in the next year the railroad, committed to the use of steam locomotion, held trials for a working engine. [...]

The Boy Scouts Of America's 2013 National Scout Jamboree is scheduled to take place this summer from July 15 - 24 at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, but one artist who won't be earning their badge this time around is Carly Rae Jepsen .
