TLOBF Interview // Bellowhead

TLOBF Interview // Bellowhead Bellowhead are huge . They're not international superstars quite yet, but there are eleven of them. As they are about to release their impressive third album Hedonism , I launched some questions towards the band, which came back with answers from Pete Flood, the group's drummer and percussionist. Recorded at Abbey Road studios with producer John Leckie (of Oasis, Radiohead and Rodrigo y Gabriela fame), Hedonism creates a number of talking points. Here follow the views of approximately 9% of Bellowhead on the famed live show, the choice of adapted traditional songs on the album, [...]

Truck 13 // Day 1 – Hill Farm, Steventon 24/07/10

Truck 13 // Day 1 – Hill Farm, Steventon 24/07/10 Photography credit | Anika Mottershaw Truck is its own beast. Hell, it has its own beast, in the form of its cutely furry Truck monster mascot, who didn't seem to make many appearances this year. Most of the times I saw him (her?) he was sulking motionlessly, which may be to do with the fact that Truck is now officially a teenager. Its format more or less the same as last year's event, Truck's lucky 13 retained the festival's usual distinctiveness. Given less of a local media leg-up than the more sober rival [...]

On the Horizon: Murky Euphoria Courtesy of Nedry.

On the Horizon: Murky Euphoria Courtesy of Nedry. Nedry are Ayu Okakita , Chris Amblin and Matt Parker , a genre-splicing trio from London that sound a little like Björk going berzerk, her brain batting against the sides of her skull as grubby dubstep fills the backdrop void, Mount Kimbie providing back-up instrumentation. Last month they played Barcelona's Sónar 2010 although when you're idiotic enough to bunk hostel bunks and opt for dusks and dawns on Spanish sands, expending iPods and mobiles in the process, sufficient energy for afternoon/early evening shows is a little overbearing to the point of dementia induction. [...]

Truck Festival turns 13 in style

Truck Festival turns 13 in style Incredibly the eclectic Truck festival is celebrating its thirteenth birthday this year at Hill Farm, Steventon on July 23rd - 25th 2010. Time sure has flown, as it only seems like yesterday that it was sucking a dummy whilst pouring ribena all over the soft-furnishings. On hand to aid in the celebrations and serenade the guests are Teenage Fanclub, Blood Red Shoes, Fucked Up, Darwin Deez, Bellowhead, Freelance Whales, Future Of The Left and many more. Even TLOBF Favourites Ace Bushy Striptease are making an appearance. For the full line up visit this is Truck . [...]

Ace Bushy Striptease - A Little More Suspicion In Our Fairytales Plz

Ace Bushy Striptease - A Little More Suspicion In Our Fairytales Plz Ace Bushy Striptease release 'A Little More Suspicion In Our Fairytales Plz' Ace Bushy Striptease started in Birmingham in October 2007 with thoughts of becoming a twee/progressive pop band. Unfortunately that never really happened but through a few lineup changes and a bit of time, they've found a niche of sorts which suits them well they feel. The band have released numerous free download LPs/EPs but A Little More Suspicion In Our Fairytales Plz is their first record to garner a [...]

Festival Frolics: Filling the Blanks.

Festival Frolics: Filling the Blanks. Seemingly half of London geared up for a lengthy hangover of headaches, heartburn and sunburn following last weekend's Primavera Sound Festival. Suffice to say, the festival season has reared its resplendent head once again. Whilst over on foreign soil, Bono's back gave way to Gorillaz' debut UK festival appearance, Download added a further slew of ear drum obliterating acts and Britain's quietest and quaintest laid down their hands, completing their estive rundowns. Click away on names to be whisked away to official sites, photos for tickets! End Of The Road [...]

Festival Frolics: Scarlet Footwear, Tropicalia & Summer Camp Trucking to Oxfordshire.

Festival Frolics: Scarlet Footwear, Tropicalia & Summer Camp Trucking to Oxfordshire. It is ever so good to we southern folk, good old Truck Festival . And it's getting on a bit these days, now in its 13th year although barring another smoggy ash cloud clogging up Danish airspace and preventing Mew from getting over to Abingdon all those going are, in the opinion of Dots & Dashes, rather lucky indeed. Following the festival's previous announcement, in which the likes of Esben & the Witch, Future of the Left and Egyptian Hip Hop were roped in, the run-down's now been bolstered by the likes of calypso shoegazers Is Tropical , [...]

Preview: Truck Festival 2010

Preview: Truck Festival 2010 If you're an Oxfordshire native, or if you just can't handle the massive crowds at the larger festivals, then from July 23rd to 25th, I'd recommend heading down to Hill Farm, Steventon, for the 13th Annual Truck Festival . Drawing around 5,000 punters each year, the festival gets its name from the flat-bed trailer they use as the main stage, and has a total of six stages, offering everything from Americana to post-rock to electronica. The Barn Stage hosts buzz bands during the day and on Saturday night hosts the Cow-shed Rave. You'll find acoustic and country artists at [...]

Festival Frolics: Majestic Additions to This Year's Truck Festival

Festival Frolics: Majestic Additions to This Year's Truck Festival Following the initial Truck Festival announcement proclaiming the festival-exclusive coup of Danish dream weavers Mew, the line up for the Oxfordshire bash just got a whole load more quixotic. Taking place from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th July on Steventon's Hill Farm, the great Danes will be backed up by the likes of hallucinatory doom mongers Esben & the Witch , the ingenuous guile of Oxford's very own Stornoway and once leading lady of UK grime, Ms. Dynamite (teeh-heeh). Other noteworthy additions nailing themselves to the bill include riled Welsh alt.aggressives [...]

Festival Frolicks: Keep on Trucking with the Majestic Mew, Truck Festival 2010

Festival Frolicks: Keep on Trucking with the Majestic Mew, Truck Festival 2010 Some rather wondrous news has seeped from the Truck Festival bunkers of Oxfordshire today. Having scooped Dots & Dashes' LP of '09 with their masterfully majestic No More Stories Are Told Today, I'm Sorry, They Washed Away, as well as blowing heads and roofs off at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire last November , the greatest Danes of the whole shooting lot Mew have been announced as highly worthy headliners of The Truck Stage. Filmed at Manchester's Academy 2 venue on their last UK stint, the breathtaking video below contains Bamse, a glimpse into the formidable [...]
