The Newport Folk Festival is a music festival built for music lovers. Steeped in history, it could almost get by on name alone. Almost. It tried that and failed somewhat when it found itself in debt and struggling to survive just a handful of years ago. But in the past few years it has been reinvigorated to the point that it is practically bursting open at the seams. The revival has coincided with and/or helped nurture a renaissance in young folk music around the country, and even across the globe, which has only helped to increase the buzz. It's a [...]

Dope or what? This video helped me figure out what effects pedal I'm going to get next - Loop Station, which is how Merrill gets her percussion kickin' the whole time. Love this band.

We always get to see artists interviewed, but in this latest clip from Noisey , we get to see something a little different: two musicians talking to eachother. For their first episode in the series, they got two of the most interesting artists in indie to chat. Annie Clark ( St. Vincent ) and Merrill Garbus ( tUnE-yArDs ) sat down and talked about music, being women in music, and whatever else came to mind. "We had a simple idea: get two rad musicians we love to sit down and just talk, like [...]
Back & Forth, the new web series from Noisey , kicked off its inaugural episode with a back and forth conversation between Annie Clark of St. Vincent and Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs . The episode sees the two discussing pressing topics such as touring, gender biases, and Clark's upcoming collaboration with Talking Heads frontman David Byrne. Check it out above.

Earlier this week, tUnE-yArDs providing live accompaniment to a series of Buster Keaton short films as part of the San Francisco International Film Festival . Here's a brief clip of "Gangsta" and Buster Keaton from that show - pretty great stuff. New video from tUne-yArDs featuring a bunch of kids acting like Merrill Garbus and dancing in what seems to be a warehouse set up like a modern art show. The production was made in collaboration with The San Fransico Rock Project, which is a non-profit organization that helps educate children about music. They have a kickstarter campaign in support of this, check it out here . The video itself is a lot of fun and it is obvious that the kids involved were really into it, as their excitement is what makes the visuals effective. There is a great amount of camera movement and quick [...]

tUnE-yArDs are back with a brand new visual for the third single from their "w h o k i l l" album. The video sees a gang of kids going manic in a variety of minimal yet claustrophobic sets with the occasional glimpse of frontwoman Merrill Garbus doing same. It's a great video and perfect for breaking up the monotony of your daily grind. tUnE-yArDs - My Country (Video) |

Tune-Yards’ W H O K I L L album opener “My Country” is still one of our favorite cuts even a year after the record dropped, so we’re psyched that it’s Merrill Garbus and co.’s next single. Following in the footsteps of the colorful kindergarten recess insanity of the “Bizness” video, Garbus returns to the schoolroom and its host of dramatic, playful, face-painted kids, all of whom seem born to be rock stars. The video, like the song, exudes the kind of youthful attitude that’s as contagious as that bubbly bassline. Check it out. Continue [...]

Adding to the already-long list of reasons to love tUnE-yArDs , here's the band's new video for "My Country" (directed by Mimi Cave, who was also responsible for this clip for "Bizness" ). The kids in the video come from Brightworks and the SF Rock Project , and the band has also launched a Kickstarter project to get an instrument lending library started for the Rock Project. tUnE-yArDs' spring and summer touring includes that live scoring gig at the SFIFF on April 23rd and a [...]
Nowdays it's perfectly okay to release an album, followed by a couple of singles, promoted with an exotic tour of eclectic musicianship. And then to release a video for said single over a year later. That's alright. The wonderful Merrill Garbus and tUnE-yArDs have offered up a brand new video for their track "My Country" which is the perfect accompaniment to the upbeat, drum filled beat of the track. It features a lot of kids from Brightworks and the San Francisco Rock Project acting all weird and hyper actively. Much like Merrill, all donning some face-paint of course. Merrill has also set up a Kickstarter campaign to benefit San Francisco Rock Project details of which can be found over here. I'd advise you to watch the video [...]

As if one Merrill Garbus wasn't enough, the new video for "My Country" off tUnE-yArDs’ w h o k i l l brings in a slew of miniature Garbuses (Garbusi?) to dance, make faces and just try their best to act as close to Merrill Garbus as possible. They each do a remarkable job, which is kind of eerie. tUnE-yArDs - "Bizness"
